I can NOT get below 11 stone

PigOnStiIts · 08/08/2024 08:16

My happy weight is 10 stone. At 11 I start to look porky (see username).

I exercise 12 times a week.
I stay under 1300 every day.
I am 50
Eat Keto

wtf am I doing wrong? Since I turned 50, like the very month I turned 50 I stuck on a stone and it’s not shifting. Also my periods stopped, so that’s been six months now.

I can’t exercise more or eat less so is this me? Is this the menopause setting me a new set weight? So pissed off right now! I just want to get into the 10s’

size 12, 5’4 and big bones.

I've been stuck at 10 stone 8 for three years now. If I want to lose, I'd have to stick to 1200 calories a day as that is the only way it starts to come off. I get too hungry on 1200 hence where I am today 🤣

I think either your calorie tracking is way off or you have a medical condition. If you're eating 1300 calories a day and working out 12 times a week, you'd look like Victoria Beckham!

If you're sure your not overeating/drinking then I'd be booking an appointment to see your GP.

Agreed

HughsMermaid · 08/08/2024 12:30

Weight train, cutback on cardio, increase calories by eating more protein

HughsMermaid · 08/08/2024 12:31

Check thyroid

MakingPlans2025 · 08/08/2024 12:35

I would love to see screenshots of tracking of people who say they're not losing on 1200 calories 😬

olympicsrock · 08/08/2024 12:41

A size 12 is not porky. Perhaps you need to adjust how you view your healthy strong body.

It wouldn’t be the truth though 😂

I don’t understand the 1200 calorie thing myself. It’s just a number someone came up with in the 90’s it’s not a real measure of what it means to diet. It was because they came up with ‘standard’ calories of 1500 a day for an adult female but it wasn’t based on height, weight, activity etc it’s just a gimmick

Anyone who cannot lose on more than 1200 calories must already be the size of a 12 year old girl? Or people are accidentally chugging olive oil or forgetting to add alcohol in or something

Menora · 08/08/2024 12:47

Can I put into perspective what a 1200 calorie BMR looks like?
a 25 year old woman 5ft tall who weighs 80lbs

edit I had put a man 😂

it’s a 25 year old woman who weighs about 120lbs and is 5ft tall

I can NOT get below 11 stone
MakingPlans2025 · 08/08/2024 12:51

I'm 43, 5'7, i have lost nearly five stone in the past two years, on between 1600 and 2000 calories a day, training 3-5 times a week for most of that time period.
I am now 133lb, training 9-10 sessions a week (running, strength, HITT and conditioning classes) and I am maintaining on 2200-2400 calories. I still track by the gram most days, while I am working out what maintenance looks like with this intensity of training. I do not believe that anyone can be consistently consuming 1300 calories a day and exercising and not losing weight, it is just not scientifically possible.

RazzleDazz1e · 08/08/2024 12:51

As a test (just a test) halve what you eat for one week. If you lose weight you will have your answer. If not, see a doctor.

And that's BMR. I.e. calories needed to stay alive, not moving at all.

PigOnStiIts · 08/08/2024 12:53

I said 1300 calories not 1200

NO I’m not posting my screenshots
NO I’m not lying, omitting takeaways etc.
NO o don’t drink alcohol, never have.

I have no reason to be lying, I have better shit to do with my time than sit on mumsnet spinning a yarn 🙄

And you’re right. @olympicsrock size 12 is not porky, I am muscly and have a defined stomach. Maybe I just need to forget about the scales.

Same. If I gain some fat, I can lose it on 1600 calories and 10ksteps a day. That’s a small deficit and my maintenance is around 1800. I have to do both kcals and steps. I’m not anything special or different. But if I am in a deficit I am scrupulous in tracking my food before I eat it.

lechatnoir · 08/08/2024 12:55

@Wishimaywishimight can I ask what YouTube workouts you use yas I'm looking for a similar 5 x a week workout at home.

OP I'd agree your tracking is missing something there's no way you wouldn't lose weight only on 1200 let alone doing that much exercise

ClemFandangooo · 08/08/2024 13:01

Try a week of maintenance calories then back to being in a deficit. My PT has me go up to maintenance every 3 weeks when I start to plateau with weight loss

DameBroad · 08/08/2024 13:01

If you’ve built muscle, perhaps that’s why your weight isn’t going down? How do clothes fit? Are you happy with how you look?

I do nowhere near as much exercise as you and I eat carbs, but also found around my mid-forties that I couldn’t get under a certain weight (12 stone for me, but I’m 5’11). I started fasting - not 16:8 etc, but just having a fast day once a week - and lost 20lbs in 6 weeks, which I’ve kept off for 8 months so far by doing the same,

I do yoga and lots of walking, and eat healthily but absolutely no restricted foods or weighing of food.

Worth a try?

OP do you really believe there is such a thing as being “big boned” and if so how have you decided that you are?

There is actually such a thing as big boned
Many people use it as a 'nice' way of saying fat so it's lost it's way a bit.
But there is a couple of real meanings.

  1. if your bones are dense - meaning you are a size 6 but still have a high BMI (24.6 in my case)

  2. broad width bone structure - have this in my ribcage - when I was a size 6 I found fitted dresses would not zip past a catch point on my ribs. (even a size 12 in 1 case) despite being baggy on the bottom, boobs and shoulders.

coxesorangepippin · 08/08/2024 13:03

Low carb

Give it a whirl

gardenmusic · 08/08/2024 13:04

PigOnStiIts · Today 11:24
interesting - my entire family has under active thyroid and my mum had it from menopause

Have the test, and discuss - don't just let them say you are OK.
I went from being skinny to overweight, and it has been hard to get it off.
I was bouncy, glossy haired, but wondered why I was suddenly putting on weight every week.
The range of 'OK' measurements in an underactive thyroid test is wide. You could be at that point where you are just 'not quite right'.

Not this muscle thing again. It’s very difficult for women to gain muscle mass. It takes a long time and requires really heavy weigh training to failure, progressive overload, eating high protein, dedication to training and nutrition.

BlueberryPancakes17 · 08/08/2024 13:23

It feels like you’re actually not eating enough. 1300 is pretty low considering you exercise 12 times a week. Your body could be holding onto the weight because it’s going into such a deficit and trying to retain stores 🤷🏻‍♀️

ChildlessCatLadiesRuleOK · 08/08/2024 13:25

If your body wants to be 11 stone but you want to be 10 stone, maybe your body should have the last word.

Yeah. Despite a 27” waist I can not get past ribcage and shoulders. Hence the size 12 probably.

It’s only Pilates and strength training though really that’s not arduous. I have plenty energy and am never tired or hungry really. I’m alarmed though that I’ve put on a stone, can’t really see where it’s gone and I can’t get it off
