Sustainable and not overly ambitious weight loss: 1 stone by September- anyone care to join?

I’m 5’4 and 12 stone 8lbs.
I exercise regularly now, and am slowly losing weight ( almost a stone over a year), I now need to reduce my calorie intake to increase the weight loss. I enjoy my food and drink, so a very restrictive diet isn’t going to work for me, plus I want it to be sustainable.

I want to try to lose a stone by September. In itself that shouldn’t be too much of a challenge but that time period includes a holiday and lots of social activities which will involve food and drink.

The approach I want to take is making healthier or at least lower calorie choices.
So for example, Weetabix and fruit for breakfast instead of toast and lashings of butter; soup or salad for lunch, with the occasional sandwich rather than sandwiches every day (and always tempted to have crisps with sandwiches); evenings have a ‘normal’ meal but consider the calorie content when meal planning or when eating out. Gin & slimline tonic instead of wine etc
I don’t want to be counting calories but am aware of what foods/cooking methods are higher in calories than others.
I’m good at not making or buying cakes/biscuits/ puddings - but if on offer will eat them - and want to be able to within reason.

I don’t want to join a group such as Slimming World, but know the weekly weigh ins have helped friends stay focused and accountable, so thought I’d give it a go on here to see if there are any other reluctant dieters who would find this gentler approach in the company of others helpful.

Anyone want to join in?

Hello 👋 Happy 2025!

I felt like a whale over Xmas and went away for a week to my mothers. I was sure I was gaining, although I was resisting the urge to polish everything off.

Weighed myself today after getting home late last night.

12st 5 - basically no change! I will take that as a win.

All my bad snacking / drinking cokes constantly came pre Christmas when the house was full of junk.

How are you all doing?

Xxx

Hi @twoforj0y Hapoy New Year! I started a new thread for 2025 but am having problems accessing it and MMHQ ignoring requests for help. @beetr00 thank you for linking to it but it opens the web version and I've a feeling it's just not accessible in the app for some reason . So let's carry on here for now.

I also ate a ridiculous amount over Christmas and am back just over 12 stone again. Trying to find the will power to give away leftover Christmas goodies but ....

Would like to be back under 12 stone by the end of Jan (but are away visiting various friends for a week or so, so not sure I will achieve that).

I'd like to get to under 11 stone by the summer. I know that would be achievable 'on a diet', but I want to carry on eating normally but more sensibly.

Hello, happy new year!

After two (or maybe three... or four 😳) weeks of pretending that calories don't exist, I am ready to get back to reality. There is still quite a lot of chocolate kicking around the house, I am just going to have to put it in a cupboard so I can't see it. I weighed myself this morning and was at the upper end of my 'normal' range so hopefully it won't take too long to get back on track. Once the DC are back at school next week I will focus on my aim to move more and eat less.

OMGitsnotgood · 05/01/2025 08:41

Hi @Hedonism . Yeah the scales are telling me that calories actually DO count over Christmas ha ha but hopefully we will lose some id that excess weight naturally as we get back to normal eating.. I'm working on a healthy meal plan for the next few days, but we are going a way for a week or so visiting friends and family si that's not going to help!

I’m going down the route of “if someone else is cooking it then the calories are none of my business” but otherwise being very sensible/boring with food.

I was barely on your last thread but it did get me 11lbs down. By Dec not Sept but seeing you posting reminded me enough! So thank you for that!

OMGitsnotgood · 06/01/2025 14:02

@Makegoodchoices great to hear from you and glad that you found the thread helpful. I certainly did! I'm struggling to get my head in the 'good choices' place if I'm being honest. I think December and all the festive nights out / food means I need to re-educate myself. Keeping my exercise levels up is probably a good place to start

Im feeling despondent as not able to exercise much at the moment due to the winter virus that’s going around and my calorie requirement is only 1500 per day without exercise. I’m not short, but am post menopausal.

Losing weight feels like an uphill battle. Any advice or tips welcome

@Patagonia21 @Makegoodchoices @Hedonism @twoforj0y and anyone else who wants to join in .... I started a new thread for 2025 then couldn't access it on tbe app - turns out I'd hidden it, accidentally duh!
