Sustainable and not overly ambitious weight loss 2025: 1 stone by June - anyone care to join?

OMGitsnotgood · 02/01/2025 17:10

Happy New Year!
I started this thread back in June in an attempt to lose a stone by the end of September. I wanted to do this through making better food choices and exercising more, rather than following a rigid diet. (Read the old OP for more details). Posting made me feel more accountable and made me rethink my eating after a calorific day (or week! )
I didn’t lose a stone but did continue to lose weight slowly, gaining some weeks but overall a reasonable loss.

Time to refocus after the excesses of December, and it would be great to have some company.

Welcome back to those who kept me motivated on the old thread and welcome to anyone new - you don’t need to ask to join, just introduce yourself and tell us what you are trying to achieve, and hopefully the encouragement and support we can give each other will help us all.

This is my info, feel free to post whatever helps you to keep track and use this thread as you see fit.

Height: 5’4
Heaviest ever: c 13st 4
Weight June 24:: 12st 8
Lightest since June 24: 11 st 11
Current weight: 12 stone 1/2lb - which is hardly surprising, i didn’t watch what I ate or drank for most of December. I think some of that will come off easily when I refocus. Going to have a few days away visiting various friends so expect that won’t help but I don’t want to be able to enjoy those times, and be extra careful at home .

My short term goal is to get back under 12 stone by the end of January..

My dream would be a stone by June. I'm not optimistic but a reasonable goal to aim for.

Hello,

Ive been trying to lose since sept 23 but i had an injury which set me back, ive made some progress but put half of it back on. My current weight has been inflated by xmas so hopefully i can lose that fairly quickly and make a good start.

height: 5 ft 7
heaviest ever: 14 stone
jan 25 weight: 13 stone 6
target for jun 25: 12 stone 6

To get into the healthy weight category I would need to get down to about 11 stone 7 but that doesnt feel achievable just now.

OMGitsnotgood · 03/01/2025 07:52

Hi @FumingTRex. I’m having problems viewing this thread in the app - can only access via web version. Please let me know how you are accessing as I have asked MN to take a look.

Re weight loss: sorry about your knee injury, that must be frustrating and limit exercise options.
With food, I found it really useful to take an honest look at what I’d been eating to work out what my downfalls were to help me tackle those weak spots. Do you know what yours are?

Hi @Hedonism !! Happy new year

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 05/01/2025 21:12

Hi 👋
Last year I started the year at 92kg - highest ever.
Aimed to loose gradually over the year & started this year at 89.6kg.
I'm 5 10 & 47 years old.
I'm going to do calorie counting aim of less than 2100 every day and less than 1600 most days
I'm also aiming to reduce upfs, increase fruit and veg and not snack.
I'm also going to be going to yoga & swimming but that's mainly to reduce stress.
Today's calories were at 1688
B. Fruit, yogurt granola, coffee
L. Lamb kofta, salad, rice
D. Half a pizza, salad

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 06/01/2025 19:22

Hi all,
Hope everyone is having a good day. I'm currently feeling sad about how many calories are in rice 😂
I hope you don't mind if I just record my food here as I've found it quite helpful in the past.
B. Yogurt, granola, berries, coffee
L. Egg fried rice
D. Five spiced beef in lettuce wraps
Calories overall 1582
I'm cooking a frozen desert for the kids and might have an apple so I don't feel left out.
No exercise as such but I've been out for three short walks. Yoga & swimming tomorrow

Im feeling despondent as not able to exercise much at the moment due to the winter virus that’s going around and my calorie requirement is only 1500 per day without exercise. I’m not short, but am post menopausal.

Losing weight feels like an uphill battle. Any advice or tips welcome

Hi Patagonia, managing weight definitely gets harder as we get older, even more so post menopause I found too.
Sorry you're not able to exercise, hopefully you'll back to it before too long.

Do you know what your main challenges are when it comes to losing weight (apart from the exercise?) For me, it was not being able to stand feeling hungry; cheese; wine; and portion size.

@Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket love your goals and your really good food choices. Yes please do post your meals - people should use this thread however it helps them . It's also great to be inspired by other people's healthy meal plans!

I would like to join please! I tried Mountjaro before Christmas but it made me really unwell so I think a gentle weight loss thread sounds perfect.

I may try fasting at intervals and generally reducing carbs but overall I just want to eat more sensibly. I'm disabled so my exercise is limited but inspiration to eat more healthily would be most welcome.

OMGitsnotgood · 07/01/2025 17:52

@FumingTRex hi, sorry for the delay in responding, I'd managed to hide the thread!

I'd focus on your 'a stone by June' goal for now. If you keep thinking about your more ambitious target, it does feel unachievable and easier to lose focus or give up.

Lakel · 07/01/2025 17:55

Hello, sustainable and not overly ambitious sounds good to me 😄

My weight was creeping up again after some reasonable weight loss 2 years ago, and then December happened 🙄.

I am trying something new and having the high protein Huel drinks for lunch on weekdays. They seem to work well at keeping me away from the snacks between lunch and dinner, which has always been my danger zone.

Height: 5’5
Heaviest ever: c 12st
Current weight: 11st 5lbs

I’m also starting HRT soon, seen mixed comments about likely effects on weight loss. I’m hoping it will help because I have seen a huge difference in the last few years with how quickly weight goes on and how slowly it comes off!

OMGitsnotgood · 07/01/2025 17:59

Hi @Jabtastic , welcome! I don't pretend to be an expert, but I always think it helps if we are honest with ourselves about what we are eating / drinking and what our downfalls are when it comes to gaining weight - crisps/chocolates/booze/pastry etc. Keeping a food diary helped me keep myself honest

Not quite got my head in the right place this year re food - in spite of starting this thread so hopefully I can get my mojo back!

OMGitsnotgood · 07/01/2025 18:09

Hi @Lakel welcome! I think hunger is our enemy when it comes to managing weight. Good that the drinks are helping you avoid the snack cravings.

Last year, I had was trying to have either weetabix & banana or porridge for breakfast as it keeps me going til lunch time. Whilst I love toast for breakfast, it real doesn't sustain me and I end up snacking late morning. I need to get back to that as I have recently been having Panetonne or crumpets left over from Christmas.

Lunch I was trying to have homemade vegetable soup, or a salad, rather than a sandwich. Must get back to that too, instead of leftover cheese and pate!

Evening I was having a normal meal but try to meal plan lower calorie meals, with an increased amount of veg. Actually done ok with that over the last few weeks.

@OMGitsnotgood thanks for this. I’ve put on over a stone in the last year and would like to be back where I was. My weight pretty much managed itself whilst I was working due to walking more and only being able to eat a quick lunch. I’ve now retired and temptation is constantly around. All the things that you mentioned are the culprits. Cheese, wine and portion size.

Today has been positive

B - porridge and yoghurt

L - 2 poached eggs on toast

D - homemade lentil soup

snack : 1 slice of stollen

Am unsure about counting calories but this should be pretty low. I need to be at 1200 or under to lose weight.

Lakel · 07/01/2025 19:25

Thanks @OMGitsnotgood.

Porridge is my go to winter breakfast. I have it with peanut butter and added flaxseed. Making it savoury also helps with avoiding the sugar crashes.

OMGitsnotgood · 07/01/2025 19:31

@Patagonia21 1200 seems awfully low?

That looks like a super healthy day. Unfortunately You have reminded me I have an unopened Stollen. Maybe I should use that as my reward when I have a good day!

@OMGitsnotgood it is the only Christmas treat I have left and too delicious to waste 😁

@Lakel that sounds delicious and perfect for keeping you on track until lunchtime

Jabtastic · 07/01/2025 20:26

I'm watching the Glucose Goddess. She says start a meal with veggies/ salad then the protein then the carbs. Apparently this can hugely reduce Glucose spikes and it sounds pretty manageable.

Jabtastic · 07/01/2025 20:30

My day so far: a pretzel with hummus for breakfast. Chicken and veg soup for late lunch. Dinner was pasta, leeks and peanuts. I know it sounds a bit odd but it was an odd day and quite a tasty meal!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 07/01/2025 20:45

Bit of a tricky day today as I had hardly any sleep and then a yoga class over lunchtime
B. Bagel with mushrooms, avocado slice of bacon
S. Christmas cake
L. Banana peanut butter chocolate protein shake
D. Penang curry & sticky rice
Total calories 1850

Makegoodchoices · 07/01/2025 21:07

Not the best day today, but in my defence I was unsupervised.

I will get my act together soon and join you.
