Sustainable and not overly ambitious weight loss: 1 stone by September- anyone care to join?

OMGitsnotgood · 27/06/2024 07:51

I’m 5’4 and 12 stone 8lbs.
I exercise regularly now, and am slowly losing weight ( almost a stone over a year), I now need to reduce my calorie intake to increase the weight loss. I enjoy my food and drink, so a very restrictive diet isn’t going to work for me, plus I want it to be sustainable.

I want to try to lose a stone by September. In itself that shouldn’t be too much of a challenge but that time period includes a holiday and lots of social activities which will involve food and drink.

The approach I want to take is making healthier or at least lower calorie choices.
So for example, Weetabix and fruit for breakfast instead of toast and lashings of butter; soup or salad for lunch, with the occasional sandwich rather than sandwiches every day (and always tempted to have crisps with sandwiches); evenings have a ‘normal’ meal but consider the calorie content when meal planning or when eating out. Gin & slimline tonic instead of wine etc
I don’t want to be counting calories but am aware of what foods/cooking methods are higher in calories than others.
I’m good at not making or buying cakes/biscuits/ puddings - but if on offer will eat them - and want to be able to within reason.

I don’t want to join a group such as Slimming World, but know the weekly weigh ins have helped friends stay focused and accountable, so thought I’d give it a go on here to see if there are any other reluctant dieters who would find this gentler approach in the company of others helpful.

Anyone want to join in?

Thanks @hedonism, I like the idea but can't see the recipes as I haven't subscribed to the app. I thought £24.99 per year seems a bit steep?

Oh 😕 how odd, I'm pretty sure I haven't subscribed either! Sorry the links didn't work 😔

OMGitsnotgood · 17/08/2024 11:45

@Hedonism have done a Google search and found a link I can access for the spinach dhal, can proabbkh work out the lentils from the other recioe :

Mounjaro….I’m on my 1st injection of 2.5ml and 4 days in. I’ve got a severe headache but I’m well hydrated, also really light-headed. I’m overweight but not diabetic. I’m wondering if my blood sugars are a bit odd…has anyone else had this? What did you do please?

Hedonism · 17/08/2024 21:38

That's the one! Here are the ingredients for the lentils. Plus 1 litre of water.

Hello 👋

Better news this Monday (although constant rain is forecast today!)

Todays weight 12st 2
Target weight 11st 2

So I've lost 3lb this week!Grin

My period is due Friday so this week will be a challenge but I really, really want to get under the 12 stone number so I am staying on guard for insatiable sugar and salt cravings!

dudsville · 19/08/2024 13:03

That's an admirable steady loss @ItsBinDayToday !

I'm keeping my oar in, but it's just holding steady. Doesn't help that it coincides with being exhausted by life.

Hedonism · 19/08/2024 13:24

Nice, @twoforj0y 👏🏼😁

I'm up 0.4kg this week. I know there is often a lag so I think this might be my holiday diet (that I thought I'd got away with!) catching up with me. I'm back on the case now though.

Our neighbours gave us loads of cooking apples from their tree, and there are lots of blackberries on the hedges so I've been having stewed fruit and greek yoghurt for breakfast, it feels like a treat and keeps me full for ages.

OMGitsnotgood · 19/08/2024 14:01

Excellent @twoforj0y, well done!!

Well done everyone! I am slightly up again but just home from a break where foot played an important part

OMGitsnotgood · 20/08/2024 18:31

I really love quiche but am trying to avoid pastry, which I also love in any form.
Saw this slimming world crustless quiche recommended on MN (with apologies if it was on this thread, it's got too big to scroll back through!).
I made it last night, we had it warm - I with a big salad, DH with baked potato, bacon and baked beans, and it was gorgeous. There was a little leftover which I had for cold for lunch and it was lovely cold too.
Could easily be adapted to include other ingredients, I made it pretty much as is, although I had no fresh mint, just added a sprinkling of dried and it was fine. I wouldn't skip the draining the courgette otherwise it will be soggy. I put a small plate and a tin of beans on it about half an hour before I cooked it.

@OMGitsnotgood just eat the inside of the quiche and leave the pastry behind.

Hoping I lose some weight this week. My anxiety is back full throttle and I don't want to eat

OMGitsnotgood · 20/08/2024 19:06

@HowIrresponsible that recipe is just like the inside of a quiche, I wa surprised how good it was.

Sorry about your anxiety, eat when you can, you need the fuel x

How is everyone's weekend going? I've had a few naughty days this week - drinks & too many crisps, a meal out last night with drinks and wine. I have been good outside of that, made a big pan of vegetable soup which lasted a few lunches, and snacked mainly on watermelon and strawberries, apart from the crisps! Have been fairly active so am hoping the damage won't be too great when I weigh myself tomorrow.

Hedonism · 25/08/2024 18:51

How did the weigh in go, @OMGitsnotgood ?

I've had a tricky week and it has sent me to the comfort food 😕 I'll check the damage tomorrow.

OMGitsnotgood · 25/08/2024 20:07

Sorry you've had a tricky week @Hedonism , hope you're doing ok x

I have gained half a pound this week. Next weeks is likely to be worse as several days of unavoidable good food where I won't have control if the kitchen. Best I can do is minimise the damage

Hello, can I rejoin? I've had a boozy, ice creamy summer and put on 1.5kg. I'm still lighter than in January but would like to get down to below 85kg (ideally 80) by Christmas.
My plan is eat mostly whole foods, no snacking, no eating late, no eating when I'm already full (!)
I think I'll weigh in every month or possibly a bit more often and be accountable here.

ItsBinDayToday · 26/08/2024 09:46

I’m back from holiday. Not put on anyway, but have had an incredibly lazy weekend and wine. Back to it this week, just need some routine back

OMGitsnotgood · 26/08/2024 10:00

Welcome back @MavisPennies, sounds like you've had a fun summer. 1.5kg isn't a massive gain, I'm sure it will be easily rectified with making more sensible choices again.

I want to live a life where you can have boozy, ice creamy summers without feeling guilty, or beating myself up when I put on a pound or two after a holiday. I don't want to be the guest at the dinner party who puts anything calorific to one side on the plate, or like one of my friends won't eat out or come to us for dinner. Will happily have us over so she can cook a controlled menu. This is a permanent situation, not a temporary one while she shifts some weight. Each to their own, of course but that's not the life for me.

@ItsBinDayToday that's pretty impressive! Hope you had a great holiday and that you enjoyed the wine.

Morning all.
I am 35, 5"4, and weigh 138lbs as of this morning. I'm a healthy BMI but wanting to get into better habits and lose lbs around my middle and boobs that have settled since turning 30. I am a nurse and me and my husband have 6 children under 12 so pretty busy, but have found IF works well for me using the 'delay not deny' method of eating. We also have 2 dogs to hopefully to stretch out daily walks for exercise.
Just come back from holiday where I put on the 2lbs id originally lost so back on it today.
Trying to drink my weight in water today and focus on getting to 12pm (17:7?). My window is usually 11-6 or 12-7 which means I eat lunch and dinner with the kids. Following for support!

SheilaFentiman · 26/08/2024 10:41

Was weigh-laid 😀 by holiday and then an ankle injury, but I’m back at the gym now. Have put on maybe a pound? But will start from where I am.

MavisPennies · 26/08/2024 21:33

Thanks @OMGitsnotgood, that's how I feel too. I've done short term strict diets on and off over the years and I want a long term approach now.
That's impressive @ItsBinDayToday !
As a first day I've eaten:
B. Yoghurt, berries & homemade granola
L. Potatoes with peas, cavalo Nero, spring onions & a bit of cheese and stewed apple & yoghurt for afters
D. Spag bol
Drinks - white coffee, a small OJ, lots of black & herbal tea, lime & soda from the pub.
I think not too bad for a start.

OMGitsnotgood · 26/08/2024 22:03

That's a cracking start @MavisPennies !

Morning all!

My weigh in today has me at 0.1kg down from last week. Looking back I realise that I have hovered up and down between 59.7kg and 66.4kg for weeks and weeks, so basically stayed the exact same weight. Actually this is not a bad outcome as I've not been as disciplined as I intended 😖
