Do you view 2 stone a massive amount to lose?

That’s the amount I need to lose post baby. I’ve never had to lose weight before. The idea that it will take the best part of a year freaks me out.

What about you?

The amount is relative to your starting weight.
I have to lose two stones (currently 11st) to go back go 9st which is the weight I’ve been most of my adult life. For me two at is a huge amount to think about and it is easier to break up into half a stone blocks.

If you weight twenty stones, then two stones might be quicker to shift than if you weigh ten stones.

If it will take a year to lose two stones, then I assume your current weight is just bsby weight and much of that will come off easily enough.

Menora · 12/06/2024 12:48

I had nearly 5 stones to lose (7lb left now) and it felt like a big mountain

the last stone/7lbs is usually the hardest to lose as in it takes a while to come off but it’s doable, don’t freak out, lots of support here

Bloody well done you! Time goes so slowly when I diet.

I am 54 and have lost weight twice in the last 3 years - first time 3 stone took me 9/10 months and second time 17lbs took me 10 weeks, neither time was particularly taxing once I got my head in the game. I didn't have to cut out treats or make it overly difficult. If you go into it thinking it is going to be a mountain to climb it will be, but if you go into it positively, it shouldn't be too difficult to lose in aout 4-5 months.

SnackFish · 12/06/2024 13:17

For me no that wouldn’t be a lot so depends on how much you weigh but 2 stone seems “small” to me as I have a lot more to lose so depends on situation really I would say 5 stone+ is a massive amount

ChateauProvence · 12/06/2024 13:20

Hi, I am in exactly same position - my baby is now 19 weeks - I have lost a stone since my 6 week check so one more to go. Just going slow and steady and it will come off. Just think with each pound lost you’ll feel better so although it takes a while to get to your goal you do feel better with each passing week (well I do 😂)

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 12/06/2024 13:24

I lost 2.5 stone in 4 months then another stone over the next year, so no, 2 stone isn’t massive to me.

The first 2.5 stone I worked hard at. The rest was just careful eating.

What did you do to lose 17 pounds in ten weeks? That sounds amazing!

Iloveeverycat · 12/06/2024 13:34

Just aim to lose 2lb a week if possible but only weigh once a month. 2lb doesn't sound alot but its a bag of sugar if you hold a bag of sugar in your hand it does feel heavy. Don't worry about having treats sometimes just because you have some chocolate or a takeaway occasionally it's nothing in the grand scheme of things. 2 stone isn't a lot to lose In the past I have lost 3 stone in 7 months without exercise and cutting down on sugar and fats with still having treats occasionally.

2lb a week is quite hard going

I ate roughly 1500-1600 calories a day and burnt roughly 2300-2400 calories a day.

Ate exactly what I liked in that 1500-1600 calories, if it was all magnums and crisps so be it. It didn't work like that of course because that would have made me hungry, but I didn't get too hung up on eating certain food groups or cutting out food groups, apart from alcohol. I cut out alcohol completely both times.

My TDEE is roughly 1600 calories a day so I exercised to get my daily calorie burn up to about 2300-2400 - just dog walking and some other exercise (for me it was either horse riding or cycling).

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 12/06/2024 13:51

I’ve lost 2 stone since Feb. Why will it take a year? I’ve got 4 to go and expect them to be gone by the end of the year. Just calorie counting, 1500 a day.1-2 lb loss a week.

sorry im not sure what TDEE is.

What did you do to burn 2300 calories daily? That seems huge

I feel like I would not be able to burn so much on a 1500 calorie diet.

I tend to burn 500 a few times a week by cycling. I also walk my dog for an hour each day but it’s very slow pace (he is elderly) so I can’t imagine it’s that much burned

OP posts:
Menora · 12/06/2024 14:13

TDEE is your totally daily energy expenditure

you can work it out on your body stats for the calories for your intake

https://jamessmithcalculator.co.uk/

I do not trust fitness devices they are not accurate when calculating exercise calories burned

you burn a certain amount of calories just being alive, then there are what you burn by moving around and general day to day life, you can add on the top exercise to increase your daily expenditure of energy

I usually burn around 2000 a day this is from being alive, general movement and exercise. I would probably not gain too much weight rapidly on this amount of calories but tbh it’s not realistic I would always burn 2000 calories a day so I eat less than this, to creat a deficit or maintain weight

rapid weight loss is possible but it’s usually hard going and slow weight loss is more sustainable

I agree with 2lb ish aim per week. Maybe one and a half. I don't agree with it being baby weight and therefore easier to loose. Extra weight is extra weight.

keypoir · 12/06/2024 14:20

I don't see why it should need to take a year to shift 2 stone (unless you want to take that long) I lost 20lb a few years ago (11st to about 9 and a half) in 3 months. Calorie counting, walking, and a smattering of cheat days off the wagon. Even 1lb a week would have it done in about half a year.

Menora · 12/06/2024 14:26

It’s taken me 14 months to lose 4st 7 lb and 7lb to lose now which will take me at least 2- 3 months now

the first 1.5 stone will probably be off in a few months but the last bit will take longer so factor this in

TDEE is your total Daily Expenditure - at my height and weight my TDEE is about 1550-1600 - there are calculators all over the web to work this out, put in your activity as sedentary and this will give you what you need to live with daily activity like eating, washing up, general moving etc.

On top of this I have done an average of 806 calories a day over the last six months (according to my apple watch) by dog walking, cycling, horseriding. I tend to do at least 2 hours of these a day, more like 3 at weekend if I do a long horse ride both days.

This gives me the 2300-2400 a day, which means I lose weight of approximately 1.7lbs a week if I eat about 1500 calories a day.

I am currently maintaining on a bit less exercise - about 650/700 calories a day of exercise plus my TDEE of about 1550 - I am eating about 2000-2200 calories a day.

Hey! I was going to create the same thread today!
I've got to lose 20kg to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight! I'm 165cm and have always been between 50-55kg. I plucked up the courage to weigh myself for the first time (3 months pp) and I was 72kg. SHOCK!! I'm splitting it into 2 chunks. My plan is to lose 10kg by Christmas. That sounds less scary! I've been easing into a calorie deficit this week.

It shouldn’t take a year you could safely lose that amount in 6 months

I had that scary scale moment. Got dh to look as I was so scared. Wasn’t going to have him tell me the number but plucked up the courage.

Seeing the number go down makes me immensely proud.

We’ll get there. Looking forward to Christmas dress shopping.

Good luck

Break it up. You don't need to lose 2 stone, you need to lose half a stone. Then once thats done, another half and so on. When i lost 8 stone I did it half a stone at a time as 8 stone was too scary to lose.

That’s a realistic and achievable length of time. Should just squeak it in time for the Christmas eatathon.
