Do you view 2 stone a massive amount to lose?

Carota · 12/06/2024 12:11

That’s the amount I need to lose post baby. I’ve never had to lose weight before. The idea that it will take the best part of a year freaks me out.

What about you?

I've lost 2 stone since January, but that's with another 2 to go to be merely overweight and 4 more in total to reach healthy BMI

So for someone of my weight it's daunting but doable in less than a year

Carota · 12/06/2024 23:01

Some very impressive weight loss numbers on this thread. Well done to everyone who has/is taking the time to invest in their health and overall happiness.

I am 54 and have lost weight twice in the last 3 years - first time 3 stone took me 9/10 months and second time 17lbs took me 10 weeks, neither time was particularly taxing once I got my head in the game. I didn't have to cut out treats or make it overly difficult. If you go into it thinking it is going to be a mountain to climb it will be, but if you go into it positively, it shouldn't be too difficult to lose in aout 4-5 months.

How did you do it?

GoldViper · 13/06/2024 06:44

To lose a pound a week you need to reduce your calories by 500 a day. One pound = 3500 calories.

Alainlechat · 13/06/2024 06:48

I started on 1st Feb and lost 2st by mid May. Combo of fasting, fast 800 and upping the exercise.

I did have some blips along the way due to birthdays, Easter, going abroad etc but got back on track each time.

Overall have lost 31lbs now, about 5 more to go to my goal.

I have already answered this question, if you read the thread x

Carota · 13/06/2024 10:03

Gosh I resent my body. If I’m fasting (which I do occasionally) at most I can walk at a leisurely pace. God forbid there is a hill.

@Loubilou23 well done! Very inspiring.

I am sure this is just mindset.....When I was losing weight and even now, I don't eat in the mornings until I have completed all my exercise, I get the odd hunger pang which I just ignore and actually find I can exercise much easier without food in my system. I have this morning done a brisk dog walk and an 80 minute fast horse ride and have plenty of energy. Your body uses stored glycogen and stored fat for energy.

Please may I ask how fasting looks for you?

Including any exercise you do

I'm also in the same boat. 6 weeks post partum, 11.5 stone and approx. 2 stone to lose. Ive lost about 2lbs so far. 2st feels like a lot at the moment!

I've never been so heavy, after my first baby I was a stone lighter than now but never got back to my pre pregnancy weight. Hoping I can manage to eat healthier this time and lose a bit more easily (the shock of night feeds and tiredness meant so much snacking on chocolate and sweets the first time around, this time I'm used to being exhausted!).

My husband is currently off work and has started a wholefood plant based diet for himself so we are eating super healthy meals. But I must admit I hoped a bit more weight would come off a bit quicker. Breastfeeding too which is meant to help!

I think it's really difficult when you have limited chances to get away from the baby to exercise. Mine doesn't stay asleep for long at all if put down and there is always housework or meals to cook that I feel I should be doing instead!

Congrats on your little one.

Empathise so much with what you posted. Especially the getting away from the baby. I know a lot of people suggest walking which I do but am limited by how far my sweet elderly dog can walk.

And just being at home. Wanting food for stimulation.

Walk without the dog? Walking is free, it's easy, you don't have to put on special clothes, get sweaty, go to the gym etc etc you can just walk and walk to your hearts content. Take the baby in the pram and get out there :) This time of year is absolutely perfect for walking.

Menora · 13/06/2024 15:06

My dog was also not a keen walker so I would do one small trip with him then drop him off and go back out on my walk without him

How old is the baby? I've had to lose 2 stone after both of mine and it came off reasonably easily after I stopped breastfeeding. I found that baby weight isn't like "real" weight for me, but YMMV.

I'm usually someone who struggles to lose every pound too.

Alainlechat · 13/06/2024 21:39

@Carota sure! Fasting I started with 800 calories and did it for 12 weeks as I was and still am above a healthy BMI. I did have a few days off however. Also to add I did not count milk in my coffee so more like 1000 calories then. I am now on around 1300-1400 to shift the last few pounds. Again I've had a few days off for birthdays etc but allow myself those and then straight back to the healthy eating.

Fasting mostly between 8pm and noon or 7pm and 11am depending on what time I get home from work.

I have cut out most cakes, crisps, biscuits and other unhealthy carbs.

Lunch is either a salad with eggs, avocado, cheese or similar. Protein yoghurt. Fruits. Salmon/chicken veggies for evening meal. An ounce of nuts.

Exercise I started hiit classes x2 per week. Then in March upped my steps. Then decided to do a 10k run and downloaded the couch to 10k app and I am on week 11.

Totally in a different spot to where i was in January. I'm 54. I feel 100% better in myself.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 13/06/2024 21:46

If you’ve ‘only’ got 2 stone to lose, ie to get down to within a healthy BMI, it will take longer that PP who have lost 2 stone but have 2+ stone to lose.

I’ve lost 2 stone previously to get down to a BMI of about 23 or 24 and it’s taken me about five months, maybe six. I’m in my late 40s.

I need to do it again as, predictably for me, I’ve regained that 2 stone and more.

lemons222 · 13/06/2024 21:50

I lost 3.5 stone of baby weight calorie counting and walking at least 13000 steps a day. Took around 7 months. Calories were probably average 16000 a day

It took me a couple of years. Yet your maths straight, don’t worry if you blow a day eating too much, don’t obsess over the scales, just try and keep the calorie intake lower than the expwnditure more often than not.

good luck!

Chickenuggetsticks · 13/06/2024 22:03

I think the last 10lbs will go very slowly. Assume half a pound for that bit.

WhenSunnyGetsBlue · 17/06/2024 06:40

Just popped on here to say. This thread inspired me and since you created it I've lost 3kg of baby weight (granted it's probably mostly water weight). I've weighed all my food not eating more than 1500cals. Walked daily (15000+ steps) and done a 20minute dumbbell workout each morning. That's it. I feel like it's a very sustainable routine. I've eaten really well and don't feel hungry at all. In the past I've always fasted to loose weight but, as breastfeeding, needs to be more patient to not dry up milk supply. 2 stone is very achievable if you want it!! X

ForGreyKoala · 17/06/2024 08:03

No. If I put my mind to it I could lose 2 stone in much less than a year. I'm hoping to lose almost that much in a few months - I've done it before.

Just wanted to say that maybe it would help your weight loss to try and change this mindset. I know that's easier said than done, I'm terrible at it! But your body is bigger because it grew a human being, it nursed it and fed it and then birthed it. How amazing is that! And now it's making milk for this brand new human. How clever is your body! And maybe it would be good for it to lose the weight... Think of it as treating this miraculous machine that is your body as well as it should be treated.

Sorry if this sounds a bit preachy, it just really helped me to reframe my thoughts around my body and not to see weightloss as punishing it for being fat iykwim.

Well done! that's amazing and keep going.

What happened to me a couple of times and you need to be careful of is the stalls, but remember it is a mind game and a mind set. The last time I lost weight I did really well in the first 3 weeks and then stalled for 3 weeks which felt like an eternity and my mind started telling me that I wasn't going to lose any more, that was it I might as well give up as I was done losing weight etc but suddenly after about 3 weeks it all got going again. Overall I lost 17lbs in 10 weeks but it wasn't an average of 1.7lbs a week as weight loss isn't linear, it was more like 9lbs in the first 3 weeks, stalled for 3 weeks and then 8lbs in the last 4.

Back21970 · 21/06/2024 12:19

I agree with breaking it down into half stones - I bet after a stone you will feel fantastic and that’s potentially only a few months away.

A pound a week is a good target - doesn’t seem so daunting and leaves room for treat days.

Getting into a mindset to losing more than a couple of stone must be difficult.

I’m a life long on and off dieter but 2 stone overweight has always been my highest and that’s daunting enough - hats off to anyone who has lost more than that as keeping up the motivation must be very hard.
