One Meal A Day

I am posting on another general weight loss thread but was wondering if anyone else who is doing this at the moment fancied a thread?

I’ve been doing it for a few weeks now and am finding for me it’s the easiest way to try and lose weight. My meals are just regular family meals eg baked potato last night and tonight is homemade pizza. Most nights I will also have something after my meal eg an ice lolly so maybe it doesn’t strictly count as one meal a day but to me that’s part of my meal even if it’s a bit later on Grin

I seem to be on course to lose one pound per week which I would prefer to be more but I just need to accept it.

Would love to hear from any others doing this just now.

i've been doing OMAD since January 2023 and have lost 79lbs so far!

personally it's the best way for me as i'm not a fan of 'low calorie' meals so i still get to eat whatever i fancy.

i have my dinner then a 'pudding' which can be something sweet or savoury depending on what i feel like.

notzoe · 15/05/2024 13:55

It sounds like we have a similar mindset on how we are doing it. I am enjoying my evening meal so so much every night and not feeling the guilt of constant snacking throughout the day is so freeing too.

I’m so impressed by your weight loss. Congratulations. What an achievement. Do you ever allow yourself to have an off day for special occasions or anything?

Has your loss been quite regular? Does that work out at just over one pound per week?

Is this literally how it sounds... just one meal a day, no other eating? So a kind of fasting??

notzoe · 15/05/2024 14:07

Yes that’s right. Although I do sometimes have my after dinner treat a little later in the evening but yep as simple as it sounds.

i usually have a weekend day off - i do take longer times off like i went on holiday for a week earlier this year. but otherwise i stick to it as i'm used to it. and whenever you stop and start again, i get a headache on the first day.

notzoe · 15/05/2024 16:16

I’m trying to stick to it at weekends too because my loss is just so slow and I don’t want to make it slower.

I am DEFINITELY having my summer holiday off though Grin

OP posts:
Alwaystired94 · 15/05/2024 16:44

@notzoe i think it depends really, when i first started it was ONLY one day at a weekend and still OMAD but slowly i changed that to give myself more flexibility. And it made it awkward to make plans at weekends otherwise.

bellalou1234 · 15/05/2024 16:50

It definitely works for me sometimes I have a breakfast then a meal about 3pm.

Loubelle70 · 15/05/2024 17:26

Im.back on OMAD.... need to lose 2st....been on it week n half...i did have breakfast today though as was feeling a bit eugh... will have say beans on toast with poached egg tonight..then bk to OMAD. Ive lost a stone before but gained it back ...not keeping my eye on the ball tbh was reason why.

Brexile · 15/05/2024 17:31

I did this a while ago and looked great and really slim, but have now fallen off the wagon (plus peri) and am fat. I always had breakfast though - just a little bit of baguette and butter. I used to commute by bus and I think I'd have felt sick if I hadn't eaten something light in the morning.

I hear ya...im peri too...nightmare weight wise isnt it? Are you going to do the OMAD again @Brexile

I sure am. The kids want to go to the beach this summer and I'm not appearing in a swimsuit until I've lost the tummy bloat! (Sounds shallow, but you have to cling to whatever motivation you can find when it comes to getting back on that wagon.)

Its not shallow at all 😁... I want to look better in clothes and naked oc..i also need to be healthier.. heart attacks im family at my age so you know. A holiday is gd enough reason @Brexile ♥️

Brexile · 15/05/2024 18:58

Thanks @Loubelle70 ! I think we both know what we need to do.

I like OMAD (which I did before I knew it was a thing) because low calorie meals feel like deprivation, whereas skipping lunch then eating a normal dinner just feels like delayed gratification, which can still be challenging on a bad day but is ultimately manageable. The difficult thing for me has been staying in a routine - job changes have played havoc with that. But, as a last minute, essay crisis sort of person, mid May is a good time to start a summer diet: long enough to be feasible but short enough to feel like a sprint rather than a slog!

notzoe · 15/05/2024 22:03

Glad to see a couple more of you Smile
It’s also great to read that people have had really positive results from this.

I’m finding it far easier than the high protein diet I tried last year. All I did was snack constantly and when I wasn’t eating I was thinking about food. Plus it cost me an arm and a leg in protein yoghurts etc.

My OMAD today was homemade pizza with (admittedly too much) homemade garlic bread. I then had a Lidl chocolate filled donut. Super healthy I know! So I’m not sure how the scales will treat me tomorrow. I was 11 stone 3.4 this morning but would expect to go up in the morning after this meal.

I only heard about this recently and am going to try it out. I'm just back from holidays and have dd's graduation in 4 weeks so I need to lose a bit. I'm going with a fairly low calorie meal for the first two weeks to hopefully accelerate the loss. I'm also away for a week in between so that won't help.

notzoe · 16/05/2024 12:18

Keep us posted on how you get on @OchonAgusOchonOh.

I am weighing every weekday and stayed the same when I weighed this morning.

My goal weight for 07/06 is 11 stone so I have 3 weeks to lose 3 pounds and my goal for 05/07 is 10 stone 10 so a further four weeks to lose a further 4 pounds so I really need to be strict with myself for the next 7 weeks.

I weighed myself on monday and I was 63.1kg. Today, I was 62.4kg!!

Ideally, I'd like to get down to around 55kg as I am only 157cm tall so I am quite overweight.

I think though as I am post menopause, that may be a bit unrealistic. I'll see how I am going.

Loubelle70 · 17/05/2024 11:26

I had porridge this morning and having tea tonight but yday i had minimal so weighing it all up figuratively. I lost 4lb first week...water weight mainly...this week i think a pound but weigh day is monday xx

That’s great! I don’t do kg at all but I’m thinking nearly a full bag of sugar.

62kg today!!!

I'm assuming a lot of that is water and it will slow down.

That’s a great loss for week 1. I am jealous. I’m getting one pound if I’m lucky, usually with a jump back up before I get there.

I have 2MAD. One is homemade vegetable soup with cauliflower, cabbage, onion, carrots and a few chunks of swede, vegetable stock cubes and seasoning. I blend it up. It's filling and can't have many calories in it. Then 1 low carb meal. I've started doing this 5 days a week. If I get really hungry I have a small apple.

I always lose 4-5lb first week but tbh that is mainly water weight.... without that i think it would be a pound. Thereafter i might lose a pound a week. Its not real weight in first week ♥️

My OMAD today was homemade pizza with (admittedly too much) homemade garlic bread. I then had a Lidl chocolate filled donut.

I discovered the Lidl doughnuts two weeks ago. OMG they are amazing!!

But how are you only loosing 1lb a week if you have only one meal a day which eg yesterday was homemade pizza + a doughnut?

On week ends I will have a late breakfast 12pm (copious mugs of tea before this) then early dinner at 5pm - so two meals + a sweet treat. Mid week it is more difficult due to working full time.
