One Meal A Day

I am posting on another general weight loss thread but was wondering if anyone else who is doing this at the moment fancied a thread?

I’ve been doing it for a few weeks now and am finding for me it’s the easiest way to try and lose weight. My meals are just regular family meals eg baked potato last night and tonight is homemade pizza. Most nights I will also have something after my meal eg an ice lolly so maybe it doesn’t strictly count as one meal a day but to me that’s part of my meal even if it’s a bit later on Grin

I seem to be on course to lose one pound per week which I would prefer to be more but I just need to accept it.

Would love to hear from any others doing this just now.

I have 2MAD. One is homemade vegetable soup with cauliflower, cabbage, onion, carrots and a few chunks of swede, vegetable stock cubes and seasoning. I blend it up. It's filling and can't have many calories in it. Then 1 low carb meal. I've started doing this 5 days a week. If I get really hungry I have a small apple.

That sounds delicious and like you say low calorie. My downfall with soup is a spoil it by having 32 huge chunks of bread with butter.

My OMAD today was homemade pizza with (admittedly too much) homemade garlic bread. I then had a Lidl chocolate filled donut.

I discovered the Lidl doughnuts two weeks ago. OMG they are amazing!!

But how are you only loosing 1lb a week if you have only one meal a day which eg yesterday was homemade pizza + a doughnut?

On week ends I will have a late breakfast 12pm (copious mugs of tea before this) then early dinner at 5pm - so two meals + a sweet treat. Mid week it is more difficult due to working full time.

They’re delicious aren’t they? I could eat a pile of them.

I suppose I’m only losing a pound because my meal (and ‘treat’) is probably coming in at over 1000 calories every day. I don’t do lots of exercise and have a sedentary job so it’s not like I’m burning loads of calories. I wouldn’t be surprised if my deficit is only 500 per day therefore losing a pound a week would be right. I also have an underactive thyroid which I’m sure doesn’t help.

Your weekend plan sounds good. When I am at a stage of maintenance I might bring in a second meal at the weekend.

How are my fellow OMADers getting on?

I had a slight gain of 0.6lbs over the weekend but 1.2lbs off since yesterday so I am happy with that.

Congrats on your weight loss!

I just found this thread, I've started doing something similar though it's really one meal and one decent snack. (The latter being a soup, a protein shake or a Greek yoghurt.)

Are you worried about nutrition? I'm overthinking the little I do eat and whether I'm getting enough vegies, protein, all the other good stuff I should be eating for inflammation, gut and heart health etc. I'm taking a couple of supplements just in case there's anything crucial missing!

Thanks! In reality I’ve only lost 4/5lbs but slow and steady wins the race eh?

I am a bit worried about nutrition, especially considering I am vegetarian too. My diet definitely isn’t great in terms of nutrition. I probably have 3 veg heavy meals per week and the rest are carby rubbish. I should probably look into vitamins too. Tbh I am never going to be that person eating amazingly nutritious meals whether I’m on a diet or not because I’m quite fussy and also have fussy children but it’s definitely something I should be thinking about for my health. Any recommendations for any supplements or anything?

I'm pescatarian but low dairy, protein can be tricky for sure.

I take a bunch of things for my well-being anyway (collagen, magnesium, curcumin) but am thinking of adding a good multivitamin with iron. I have it, just keep forgetting to take it!

As a vegie, maybe omega 3 too if you're not a big nuts-and-seeds eater?

I've been trying to get kombucha or kefir in most days, too.
