It certainly is @thenewaveragebear1983 .

I'm trying to get organised so I have fruit, veg, soup and brown bread already prepared for when I get home, so if I binge on this then it should help me lose weight rather than binging on the junk food and puting more on. Potatoes also seem to be a decent alternative.

I just don't have the will power to wait.

poorpaws · 29/06/2024 12:22

@thenewaveragebear1983 Dark chocolate experiment starts on Monday!

@Storyland welcome, it's lovely to have you here. We are such a small group but very friendly and supportive.

Oh my that's a lot of chocolate.
For some reason I had an absolute binge day yesterday.
I was at work and had two coffees and four ginger nut biscuits and a custard donut.
Got home and ate handfuls of nuts and pretzels and guzzled two gins
Then ate more nuts, pretzels and cheese and crackers , then had enormous serving of spagbol, salad with french dressing and in some weird moment only one tiny piece of garlic bread
Oh and two glasses of champagne... actually maybe three.
What was going on ..I do not know.
I wasn't even hungry when I ate the second serving of spagbol.
Today...I must be better organised and get a grip of this utterly disorders eating.

Theredjellybean · 30/06/2024 07:54

@thenewaveragebear1983 ..I'm running London 25 too...that is if I survive marathon du Médoc in September.
My current longest run is 28 km , tomorrow it's going to be 30 km...it's getting tough.
And it's making no difference with my weight...sigh...

Zanatdy · 30/06/2024 07:55

Hi all. Checking in again. I lost 11lbs earlier this year, then hurt my leg and given walking is what helps me lose I ended up gaining it all back. Still not fully better but a 35wk to be seen on NHS so I’m back on my diet as nothing fits and am trying to do 15k steps a day. Epic walking group walk yesterday though and did 25k steps and so aching a bit today.

week 1 - I lost 2.2lbs and that included a pub lunch yesterday (but no evening meal) so very happy with that. Annual leave coming up, meeting friends so it’s going to be hard but don’t want to sabotage as I want my clothes to fit again. In January I lost 11lbs in 1 month so hoping for similar or even 8lbs I’d be delighted with

Storyland · 30/06/2024 07:59

Sorry @Theredjellybean , hope today feels like a better day. We all have blips.

Weighed myself this morning and no change from last week which is frustrating because I have been trying. I think I need to be more disciplined with resisting pop and wine.

But on the positive side I have been a lot more active this last week and even if it is not showing on the scales yet, I have to believe the exercise will be doing me good in other ways. I hope so anyway!

poorpaws · 30/06/2024 09:39

Hi everyone

It's Sunday already, that's so hard to believe. I don't see DP on Sunday so it somehow makes me extra lazy. I've been up for hours but so far have been sitting with my iPad drinking coffee.

I always have a huge list in my head for Sunday jobs but every week I just love to ignore it and slob out all day. I do take the dogs out and that's about all but I so love my time alone, not having to speak or even think about anyone else.

Tomorrow is my grand start on my chocolate experiment. I think I'll try 25g in the evening to start with and see how it goes. I must not eat any milk chocolate at this time as I am trying to educate myself that dark bitter chocolate tastes much better (but it really doesn't).

I hope you all have a great Sunday and I'll report in tomorrow with how fabulously healthy I've been (in my head). Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

Theredjellybean · 30/06/2024 14:09

@poorpaws ...it doesn't taste same...my boss bought me milky bar buttons last week...mmm....sugary crack

I like dark chocolate but it is not the same
However you need to look at it as "this is not a replacement, it's a new treat experience"

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/06/2024 14:34

Hi all. The benefits of having lots of soup over the last couple of weeks has finally started to pay dividend and given me a bit of a needed motivation boost.

I've been doing little fasts also.

Hopefully can keep on track 🙂

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/06/2024 19:17

@poorpaws I hope your experiment goes well. It's really rather good of you to take one for the team in this way! May the gods of science and weight loss be smiling down on you

I've had really rather a good weekend. I actually cannot remember the last time I had such a good weekend. I have stuck to my calories every day, no alcohol, I've had no sugar, bread or any junk food. My meals have been good, lots of healthy fats and veg. I did 90 minutes of bootcamp yesterday and ran 12km today.

That's now a week of no junk food and no sugar. I've had fruit and occasional potato but no sugar added in anything. I have had to make some fairly significant changes to my day to day food but it's actually been ok, and I feel really good. Just less sluggish and much fewer cravings. I'm obviously detoxing because my skin is showing a few blemishes. But I am feeling so much better, and it's good for my willpower to be actually sticking to something for a change!

poorpaws · 30/06/2024 20:48

It's been a very bad day of constant snacking and laziness. I actually think I have spent the whole day putting food into my mouth.

Tomorrow will be different! I will weigh in the morning (I'm dreading that) but after that the scales are going away and the dark chocolate will be my only vice, fingers crossed.

I will report back.

poorpaws · 01/07/2024 08:48

I'm taking this seriously now. I've been on the scales 😱
I will need a lot of support as I say goodbye to one of my best friends, milk chocolate.

DIET FAILED AGAIN thread 6- everyone welcome
Storyland · 01/07/2024 10:40

Good luck with the chocolate experiment!

I'm in a better mood today as I'm down 1lb. Got a lot of desk based work to do today but hoping to sneak a run in at some point. I've done a supermarket shop this morning and have not stocked up on Dr Pepper which counts as a win for me. And I am quite proud that there is a bottle of wine in the house that has been sitting there untouched for 2 weeks. I think my will power is slowly getting stronger.

Storyland · 01/07/2024 11:08

Strike that last sentence. I just had a Terry's chocolate ice cream at 11am. Will power needs more work.

triplecheeese · 01/07/2024 15:27

I love a Terry's @Storyland !

checking in to see how @poorpaws dark chocolate experiment went! I went on a strict low carb diet for my wedding 10 years ago and I was allowed 2 squares with a decaf coffee after dinner and it did indeed become addictive as it's such a strong taste. I also love milk chocolate.

Hello everyone, happy July. I'm also getting back on the running, trying to get a London 2025 place but I have 3 half marathons booked in the autumn so I'd better find the time to run if I'm going to not suffer... I managed a very slow 10K on Sunday but slow is better than no...

Theredjellybean · 01/07/2024 16:01

Don't worry @triplecheeese ..I'm a slow runner.
I really don't care that people are faster than me ..I'm still faster than the people sat on their sofas.
I ran 28 .2 km today...longest run
I averaged 7.40 mins/ km
I need to book in some Half's later in year to keep me from stopping training after the marathon in September

Theredjellybean · 01/07/2024 16:04

I have decided not to weigh myself until after the marathon.
I need to eat enough to run and train and I don't think my weight will fall but I don't want to be fainting out running.
I'm not allowing myself anything I want, I'm going to continue to do mindful thoughtful eating and not snack etc but the scales make me want to restrict calories and I don't think I can do it at the moment.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/07/2024 17:28

@Theredjellybean Wowzers that's amazing! Well done! How much further will you do as your long run in training before you run the M? I've known a few people who have run marathons and without exception all of the women have gained weight while training. I think you're doing the right thing to focus on your nutrition and put the scales away.

triplecheeese · 01/07/2024 20:46

Fantastic effort @Theredjellybean. me too, I never lose any weight running! But I feel so much better for it.

poorpaws · 01/07/2024 21:37

Day 1 of dark chocolate challenge done, no cheating, so far so good.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/07/2024 21:41

I had another good day today. I think that is an 8 day streak! My food has been simple but good- salads for both lunch and dinner, I had leftover roast pork, antipasti, Spanish omelette/tortilla and mayo. My dessert was sliced apple with almond butter which is so delicious, if you've never tried it you really should. I had a banana before training and some strawberries and raspberries as snacks. I'm feeling very healthy, not hungry as such, but definitely noticing that I haven't had any treat food, I suppose I am craving the sugar rather than the food itself.

I went to bootcamp at my new gym again today, I'm really enjoying it - it's so nice to be with people working out. I really enjoyed the YouTube videos but I do love group training.

Tomorrow is Tuesday which as you know is always a hard day for me. I've prepped my lunch and I'm taking lots of fruit with me. I'll have a smoothie before work and dinner is to be chicken wrapped in bacon and green veg.

@poorpaws well done 🍫

OP posts:
Theredjellybean · 02/07/2024 07:00

@poorpaws well done.

My training plan has longest run of 38 km three weeks before marathon then a taper.
I also do a 5 km run , which is run at flat out fastest time possible...it kills me !
And a 7-10 km tempo run ,which I aim for 7.20 mins average.
I do three sessions with weights doing physio based leg exercises.
That's it, nothing fancy, I couldn't understand half of the plans I looked at, so my physio suggested the above and it seems to be working.

Storyland · 02/07/2024 08:09

I can't imagine doing a fast 5km run! Sounds like a great plan!

Yesterday was an OK day. I didn't get out for a run but had a 30min dance party with DD instead and did a lot of undignified jumping about to Taylor Swift.

Going to get back to running today and will aim to eat less bread than yesterday.

poorpaws · 02/07/2024 14:18

I had a surprise this morning. I decided to relegate one of my favourite blouses to work/dog walking status. I've always loved it, had it for a long time but hardly ever wear it because I never bloody go anywhere. Not only would it not fasten but it wouldn't meet and the short sleeves were/are very tight. I am still in shock this afternoon, I did not expect that.

If anything has made me realise just how big I am now, it's this. Not only was it loose when I bought it donkeys years ago but it's always been loose and often looked too big.

I have worn it today, open with a t-shirt underneath, as a constant reminder.

I have to do this now, I have to lose weight, I just have to.
