Starting low carb two week induction type thing - tomorrow - anyone in??

Have just bought and read the India Knight book and have been reinspired to restart my low carb ways - Anyone care to join me?

I do know this way of eating suits me, I have done it before, I don't get hungry after the first few days and I do lose weight. I was "sort of" doing this for a couple of weeks before easter and lost about 4lbs, felt good but fell off the wagon over the weekend with easter eggs, wine, simnel cake etc!

Am planning a 2 week induction type event starting tomorrow morning (I am loathe to call it a "diet") to get me back into the swing of things. It would be good to have a buddy or two.

Can I join in please ?

I've been low carbing for weeks now, its going really well, and I'm enjoying everything I eat - cheese and tomato omlette for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch, salmon and yoghurt with peas for dinner etc. But I'm drinking 1/2 bottle of red a night, so weight loss is slow.

I'm running 4k 3 times a week, and cycling everywhere, so shape is changing, gradually.

Whats really helped is doing a family meal plan for the week, I mostly have the same as them but without the rice/potatoes whatever - its cut out the temptation to give in and have carb based meals.

Katisha · 17/04/2008 19:08

Half a bottle of red a night is my kind of diet!

Minum · 17/04/2008 19:13

I'm certainly enjoying it this evening !

Katisha · 17/04/2008 19:58

So basically we are all doing some sort of personal version of low carb! Mine includes chocolate...

oggsfrog · 17/04/2008 20:23

speak for yourself .
I'm firmly seated on this brand new wagon and will not be lured off by the siren song of chocolate or red wine.
Not drinking during week either. I have only been having a drink at weekends and will only be drinking G&dietT for the foreseeable future

Minum · 17/04/2008 20:42

Looks at oggsfrog in admiration

Are we reporting weekly weight loss, or is it more sharing ideas and support ?

SugarBird · 17/04/2008 22:07

Hi everyone.

I must admit my low-carb plan now includes dark chocolate and half a glass of red wine with dinner but I'm pretty much maintaining now...

Breakfast is gluten-free muesli followed by a flax muffin (ground flax seed, egg, butter and baking powder), lunch is usually chicken or fish with salad, dinner is some sort of meat, fish or cheese (often haloumi). Snacks are an ounce of mixed macadamias, almonds and pine nuts, some raspberries/a couple of plums and one or two (small) low-carb cookies (made with ground almonds instead of flour and Splenda/Xylitol instead of sugar).

I lost around 17lbs over three months and have been maintaining for the past six weeks or so. And I do feel much healthier.

Katisha, are you doing the gym again this week? I'm wavering but am determined to stay strong

Katisha · 17/04/2008 22:36

Hi SugarBird. I went to the gym again today which brings me to the grand total of twice in two weeks, which I suppose is probably better than nothing, but am not sure if it really achieves much! The most I can realistically do with my work pattern is twice a week, and three occasionally, which I am hoping is enough to make a difference.

SugarBird · 17/04/2008 22:58

Twice a week (or even twice in two weeks) is a lot better than not at all. And now you've done two weeks in a row it could almost be called a routine! I have the same problem with work but am trying to motivate myself to go once over the weekend, as well as Monday morning.

lilacclaire · 17/04/2008 23:31

Since we're confessing, I snuck a packet of crisps yesterday.
Oh and had some organic oatmeal and cranberry bar thing out the vending machine at work tonight . It wasn't even nice if that helps redeem me.
Oh and have no intention of giving up my vodka and diet coke (one night per week but vast quantities )

lilacclaire · 17/04/2008 23:35

Oggsfrog, its there believe me, in the form of a large tyre where a waist should be, it looks better lying down though haha.

Im not weighing myself, but just going by how my clothes fit and when the overhang/muffin top will disappear!

PiggyPiggy · 18/04/2008 00:26

Hi again everyone... I'm with Oggsfrog here, I am seriously hardcore superglued to the wagon. Nothing starchy or sugary shall pass my lips.

Strawb, It's your lucky day. I saved a seat especially for you .
Report to wagon loading area on Monday and we'll haul you up.
You will have to pass through carbport control and the newly installed cheesy puff detector so be warned

OrmIrian · 18/04/2008 07:18

Me too strawberry. DD's bday today and party tomorrow so too much cakes to pass up. Monday it is. I'm actally looking forward to it. Not looking to lose much weight - in fact I don't own scales anymore, but having gained muscle from running and gone down a dress size, I need to halt the growing spread of my waist due to excess consumption of cr*p!

oggsfrog · 18/04/2008 07:25

Glad you're able to run again Orm. I'm hoping to start some gentle walking soon (though any walking around here involves badly maintained tracks up and down hills so won't be that gentle).
I've been thinking of buying something to put in my shoe to help with the fallen/falling arch in the hope it might ease my knee probs.
Say hello to Shy and Nosy for me .

OrmIrian · 18/04/2008 07:54

I will. They are running round the table as I type

Katisha · 18/04/2008 08:16

It's getting just like old times!

The cost a bit scary, but it's worth it when the muffin top starts to recede...

I hope it works for you. Fingers crossed.

I've been on a US-based low-carb forum for a while and lots of people on there seem to say that the golden chance thing is a fallacy, and that sometimes it appears not to be working because you don't have as much water weight to lose as you may have done the first time. Atkins says that you can go back to induction several times but that if you keep ducking in and out of it frequently, then it may become less effective - but he was talking about people that do it over and over again.

And anyway the food is yummy so that makes it easier to do

Katisha · 20/04/2008 22:32

I have been having a big party in the last carb saloon all weekend...Will report to wagon tomorrow morning!

PiggyPiggy · 21/04/2008 00:40

Piggy checking in ladies... well, I survived the weekend..although a bbq we were supposed to be going to got cancelled due to hosts stinking cold. Good - no wine and dessert temptations! Nearly a week back with no carbs... not losing weight as fast as I want to though. Oh well, sticking with it. Hope you ladies are doing well!
