I was 20st.
I've recently lost 2st.

I'd like to be 10st, so I have 8st to go.

Does anyone want to join me? I'm taking Orlistat and trying to stick to 1700 cals/day.

All welcome!

You broke the 17 stone mark! You will never see that again! You got this! ⭐

Thank you. I've resolutely taken all my clothes which are too big to the charity shop. Or put them on ebay.

I had two pancakes yesterday because my neighbour brought me some from the shop. Oh well. I'm sticking to calorie counting, and the pancakes tipped me over.

I've decided not to care!

That's an excellent idea!! You will never need them again!! That must feel so satisfying!

Ha ha yes done now. No point beating yourself up. Btw I heard it said that you fall off the wagon it means you are trying and have been on the wagon. Better than not having a wagon to fall off!

TheShellBeach · 04/05/2024 16:02

Had a strange day yesterday.

Won a tiny packet of sweets, so ate them. 8 sucky sweets.

Then ate four Jaffa cakes.

Then ate a sweet pancake.

Then stayed up all night, binge watching a TV series.

WTF?

Anyway. Back on track today.
🤣🤣🤣

I weighed myself on Friday no weight loss but no surprises there

No goal weight currently just down we will see how that goes.

@TheShellBeach sounds like you're really on track keep it up!!

Foreverhopeful42 · 05/05/2024 08:25

Well done @TheShellBeach that is a brilliant achievement. You ate differently to how you have been on one day. You recognise it won't make you feel good to keep foing that so you're choosing to change that. That is being healthy and doing the right things for your body.

I lost 4lbs my first week but at the moment I'm a 1lb up. I need to be thinking about making positive choices for my body and future. I'm utterly miserable in this body.

TheShellBeach · 05/05/2024 13:12

@Foreverhopeful42 and @Notanotheruser111

Have either of you tried Orlistat? It's been a game changer for me.

@Foreverhopeful42 i think when you have lots of weight to lose it isn’t necessary and can be counter productive to start off too low. Have a look at a tdee calculator but I would start off at 1800 to 2000 for a week and see whether you lose weight. That way if your weight loss stalls you can reduce calories.
Remember lots of people dieting are already near a healthy weight and just wanting to drop a small amount so they have to go to 1200 to lose any. If you are on this thread you have lots to lose and eating 1200 for a long time would not be practical.
As pp says, eating foods higher in protein and fat will help control appetite. I would also advise a little of what you fancy so you don’t feel deprived and end up having a binge day.

I agree. Even a doctor said to me many years ago, that initially even if I stuck to 2000 cals a day, I would notice a difference, as i would of been going over that easily, and still am! It might not be every day, but it's regularly enough that it would put more weight on, or not help in losing any at the least!

Redruby2020 · 05/05/2024 13:39

What fats do people recommend as I've heard this mentioned quite a lot, eating higher protein high fat.

Redruby2020 · 05/05/2024 13:40

JumpingIntoLCHF · 20/04/2024 07:54

Can I ask how tall you are OP?

I lost a lot of weight on low carb but put it back on. I really need to get going again.

Not sure if you increased your carbs again at that point, but that would probably be why. Which is why i understand them saying not to remove food groups from our diets.

JumpingIntoLCHF · 05/05/2024 13:53

@Redruby2020 it was Christmas and there were so many carbs around so I just got back into them and have never managed to ditch them again. I know for me it's what works - my weight drops, my appetite drops and I certainly don't crave them once I'm on track.

The best fats to eat are nuts or nut butters, oily fish and olive oil. That said don’t be afraid of butter, cheese, full fat yogurt and milk. The worst are those solid at room temperature like lard, bacon rind etc

TheShellBeach · 05/05/2024 14:56

Looking back at the start of this thread, I see that I was aiming for 1700 cals/day.

Then I went down to 1500.

I'm still on 1500. I eat anything and everything, and everything is counted.

I think that intermittent fasting has helped me a lot, as well as Orlistat. I do my best not to eat after 17.00 and before 11.00. I therefore have a six-hour eating window.

Another excellent by-product of IF is the huge reduction in heartburn and acid reflux.

I have tried low carb in the past, and while it definitely works, it is not sustainable. Not for me, anyway. I am fine with it for about a fortnight, then the craving for toast overcomes me.

I eat two slices of toast and marmalade for breakfast every day at the moment. That's about 350 calories. It may be slightly fewer, but we eat thick-sliced bread, and I do love butter and marmalade.

I am still losing 2 - 3lb each week, so I am proof that ditching carbs is not necessary.

I eat potatoes with my dinner every night, too. I've been on diets in the past where I thought that carbs were the enemy. I've finally come to the conclusion that just counting calories works. If I eat fewer calories than I burn, I will lose weight. It's rather old-fashioned.

The Orlistat helps, of course.

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 05/05/2024 15:00

Having said all that, there are days when I eat more than 1500 calories.

Sometimes as many as 1700. I don't think that matters, really. The day I ate all the sweet things was an aberration. I gave up trying to count the calories on that day. But I went back to being strict with myself afterwards.

Things I eat are:

  • Good Earth crunchy peanut butter
  • Longley Farms full fat cottage cheese (so different to all the other cottage cheeses, creamy and really thick not weird lumpy sour stuff)
  • full fat Greek yoghurt (not Greek style which is sour)
  • olive oil in cooking or as a salad dressing
  • a portion of nuts, be sure to weigh them because 30g is wayyyyyy less nuts than you think it is.
Fifteensaresgreat · 05/05/2024 16:22

Congratulations on everyone's losses- just the inspiration I need. I've decided to do the hundred stone approach (yes I made that up) so 1800 calories at 18st 1700 at 17st until I'm down to 1000 calories and 10 stone then gradually increase until I stabilise at hopefully 10st 7lbs. Along side this I'm doing the 30 different plants a week. One week in and it feels very doable so far and not as much of a challenge jumping in at 1200 calories which whenever I've almost 8 stone to lose is a long time at such a low calorie intake.

TheShellBeach · 05/05/2024 16:41

It really is such hard work, and a long haul.

I am so comfortable in my size 20 jeans and I couldn't get them up my legs before Christmas. I was about to put them on ebay because I'd bought them when I optimistically thought they'd fit, about a hundred diets ago.

And now they do.

One tip which always works for me - do not buy things which you will stuff yourself with.

The pancakes were a gift from my neighbour. It was very kind of her, but I could not resist them.

How many diets have you been on? For me, it's been two a year, for ever.

That's another 3lb gone.

Goodness knows how, after all the pancakes and sweets.
