I was 20st.
I've recently lost 2st.

I'd like to be 10st, so I have 8st to go.

Does anyone want to join me? I'm taking Orlistat and trying to stick to 1700 cals/day.

All welcome!

Sorry but why are you laughing?

Because I don't exercise.

Okayyyyy...

Try Lucy. She's lovely. Very calm and gentle.

Lots of short, simple workouts. Some are as short as 7 minutes. Perfect for beginners.

I lost eight stone. I did it my own way. I never weighed myself at all for over a year. I figured actually the numbers don't matter. I can't do anything about what the scales say and fluctuating is normal but depressing.

I ate the same thing every day for every meal. Fruit for breakfast, chicken for lunch and some sweets as a treat and cheese on toast for dinner. Didn't really do calorie counting or measuring. Just stuck to the same three foods and didn't worry about nutrition.

I just stuck at that day after day and it worked. It was very boring but after a while I just got into the routine and stopped caring.

Wow well done @garlictwist - that's a tremendous weight loss. Even if you got bored with what you were eating you just stuck with it day in day out. That's dedication and must have taken a lot of self discipline!

I must admit, I agree with you with scales. Although they can be helpful occasionally, our weights can vary so much day by day - eg how hydrated we are , which is a good thing, if you have a belly full of veggies for example, building a bit of muscle, but then people worry that what they are doing isn't working but they are just beautifully hydrated and/or fed/have built a bit of muscle so are doing really well, and sometimes then give up. With clothes and photos you see you are heading in the right direction.

Sorry but why are you laughing?

Exercising with dumbbells is one of the simplest and yet most effective ways of becoming/keeping fit, controlling weight, and combating osteoporosis.

I get it - Caroline Girvan is the best but may be too challenging for novices. Try Rebecca Louise:

Her chatter can be annoying, but the workouts are solid. (Turn down the volume and listen to the instead...)

But do do weight/resistance training. I can guarantee you will not regret it.

Thank you so much @PaminaMozart. This is exactly what I was looking for re weights! I find Caroline G amazing but too much for me at the moment- this is exactly at my level to start! I've been looking for something similar to Lucy WR with weights but never found it! I remember us both recommending Lucy WR before so I guess we are of a similar mindset :)

@TheShellBeach - I echo @PaminaMozart on Lucy Wyndham Read - she's so gentle. Does 5 minute exericise routines and even a wake up one which literally just gets your body moving for the day - you can build up. She also does toning exercises which you can just use your body weight ...

Good luck! You are doing brilliantly!

Hello
Can I join . 17 11 here. Would love to loose 7 stone. Done weight watchers years ago and worked but as no meetings near me now gonna try mfp.

Notanotheruser111 · 27/04/2024 04:31

I'd like to join to I've got 9.5 Stone to lose. When I've tried this before I find I lose nothing for about 8-12 weeks then I start to lose weight but I'm so over it that I can't sustain it. so I'm hoping joining a group will help me stay motivated

TheShellBeach · 27/04/2024 13:14

Hello @NLmum4

I'm taking Orlistat from my GP and calorie counting. I eat 1500 cals/day.

I fast from 5pm till 11am the next day. I just use the NHS app, not MFP.

Good luck to you. I know how daunting it is, having so much to lose.

Hi there @Notanotheruser111
I'm a bit puzzled when you say you lose nothing for 8 - 12 weeks.

What method are you using?

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 27/04/2024 13:18

Today, I'm 17 stone.

I've lost three stone since January! I'm so pleased with myself.

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 27/04/2024 13:21

It's been about five weeks since I started this thread, and I've lost a stone since then.

So now I only have 7st to lose.

How much would you like to lose?
Are you actively trying at the moment?

I myself would not have believed that I'd lose three stone in four months.

I'm really motivated at the moment.

I’ve tried counting calories, shakes, prepared meals , exercise. Eventually they all work but it takes weeks for me too start losing weight. I get de motivated by the weeks of nothing. I don’t know why I’m very large so it shouldn’t be this hard

@Notanotheruser111 have you seen your doctor to get your thyroid checked?

OP posts:
Notanotheruser111 · 28/04/2024 21:02

@TheShellBeach yes no medical reasons.

i do have PCOS but i aim to eat low GI. This just appears to be the way I am.

EasterFox · 28/04/2024 21:22

@Notanotheruser111 that does sound tough I think the hardest part is the early days when you are not used to dieting. So much harder without the motivation of losing weight. At least you know it will happen and eventually you will lose.

Notanotheruser111 · 28/04/2024 22:01

True, but I have to be careful how I diet I tried very low calorie and it had such an effect on my mood I was starving with no reward. Same with cutting any food groups out it’s not sustainable. Mostly though it’s motivation that decreases over time that I have the trouble with I know logically I just have to keep going and it will happen but ffs it’s to hard
