Hey all, I started wegovy 0.25 last week and I've already lost 3.6lbs since Thursday, that's after a year of nothing. I was losing weight a few years ago, I was 280 lbs and dropped to 200 but since I hit that number I couldn't lose anymore, I tried different diets etc but it just wouldn't budge :S for about 16 months I've been trying but lowest I got to was 198lbs(atleast I never gained a lb back haha.)

Well today I hit 193 lbs after being on wegovy for a week!! 😁 I was sceptical as honestly I didn't want to spend £170 a month but it's so worth it if it's actually going to help get this weight off.

I'll keep updated with how it goes from here.

Congratulations Op,
It’s difficult to lose weight no matter how you do it.

2024istheyearforme · 13/03/2024 14:56

@Andipxs Thank you so much, I agree.. there is never an easy way and if your health is on the line you got to to what works for you right.

I haven't lost 7 lbs in a week since I was 18 and trying to lose weight so over 10 years ago since then its been lb here and there maybe 2 maximum :D

Best of luck @2024istheyearforme that's a great result. Well done for having lost so much beforehand too.

So eating a healthy diet and doing lots of exercise made no difference? How come? Have you been checked out medically?

Give it a rest 🙄

2024istheyearforme · 13/03/2024 15:54

@Ahnobother Thank you :D yeah it took a while but I did it, but when i hit that Plateau .. man i Just wanted to give up, it felt like it had all been for nothing as i looked in the mirror and saw exactly what i saw before, I definitely couldn't see the difference, now i can when i see photos but only in photos and clothes size.

@Guttedme Thank you so much for your very helpful reply. I will check out all these links. I also hope that I'll be able to discuss this with my GP as I had gallstones a few years ago and want a steady loss rather than a dramatic loss.

I lost several stone about twenty years ago and kept it off for about three years. That was with a huge amount of support and a daily battle with the triggers. I think I'm too old now to find either the physical or mental energy I had back then.

I would love to try it, but I’m too scared about the research into it causing cancer…🙁

https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/novo-nordisk-shares-slip-ema-drug-safety-signal-2023-06-22/

So if you were prescribed it (same drug although different name) for diabetes you wouldnt take it?

My OH is on it as he is type 2 diabetes.

Obesity is also linked significantly to cancer

Give it a rest 🙄

This happened to me and it turned out to be a thyroid issue. I was medicated and lost the excess weight. What's your issue with that?

2024istheyearforme · 13/03/2024 20:11

@Watchkeys i have been tested multiple times since around 16 years as they couldn't tell where my obesity was coming from ( I was a extreme horse rider with a not too bad diet although not great) but everything came back normal.

I did try slimming world around age 23 and that worked for a bit but then I got back into my sugar drink addiction and whenever I went back to SW it didn't work again

Regarding a steady loss, you can keep the dose as low as possible to achieve that. You could even, if you feel you are losing too quickly, inject every ten days rather than 7.

The dosing schedule is: 0.25mg, 0.5, 1.0, 1.7, 2.4. The idea is that every four weeks you move up, but if it's working then you don't have to. For example, if you're on 0.25 and find you're losing one pound a week, you could stay there until you hit a plateau. Some people find 0.25 works for them out of the gate, but others find it doesn't really work until they reach the higher doses. So you work with your body. There are a few, sadly, for whom it doesn't seem to work.

I stuck to 0.25 for eight weeks rather than four, and I only actually moved up to one and a half doses of 0.25 this week:

Week 1: -4lbs loss
Week 2: -1
Week 3: -0.6
Week 4: -2.2
Week 5: -0.8
Week 6: -0
Week 7: -2.4 (took 1.5 shots of 0.25 beg. of wk)
Week 8: -0.6 (back to 0.25 for a week)

TOTAL LOSS SO FAR: 11.6lbs
I'm short at 5'0" and started at BMI 32
I'm low carbing and finding I've been able to stick to it, unlike multiple occasions I tried to do something about my weight last year.

Best of luck to you, whatever you decide.

2024istheyearforme · 14/03/2024 13:48

@Striving4Better Great advice, I'm also thinking of staying at this dose until it slows down dramatically. I'm low carb, low sugar. Pretty much just chicken & BBQ beans for protein to be honest with a few protein shakes for added calories.

Well done you. I'm 2 stone 6 lbs down on Wegovy, in a few months. I feel so much better.

2024istheyearforme · 14/03/2024 14:18

@Pinkglittery Wow thats amazing!! Thank you for sharing, i am so excited that there is a possibility to hit my Goal weight this summer, it would be the first time ive ever been that weight ^^

OP posts:
Pinkglittery · 14/03/2024 14:22

I did low carb with it to start and it just dropped off. Then got Covid and felt terrible so stopped low carb. Still losing but slower now.

You are very welcome.

Please could you keep me updated re. the gall stones thing? I'm just interested.

I eventually got primary care/gp to give me Rybelsus (oral semaglutide) on prescription after quite a battle but I've a horrible feeling they may try and stop it as soon as I start it. Thank you.

EmotionalOverEater · 15/03/2024 07:05

@Striving4Better That's very helpful about being able to customise doses and frequency. I'd love to be able override a plateau or quieten the food chatter, or even just know that it's there and can be relied on.

When I lose quickly, I start thinking daft things eg I'll be sylph-like by the summer or a new wardrobe for winter. Then I go slightly mad with calculations and graphs, inevitably have a slump and think Oh just one whatever won't hurt.

@Guttedme I'm happy to update with how I get on. Gallstone pain is horrendous. I think that it's the rapid loss rather than the drug itself. I get a twinge and I know to avoid all fat when that happens. I also know to lower my fat intake in general, so the twinges are my own fault. No full-blown attacks for several years though.

@2024istheyearforme Great to get off to such a good start! Do you avoid all diet drinks as well as sugary? I developed a serious diet coke habit years back, and now avoid it and drink only tea no milk or sugar. The occasional latte is nice, but is the same calories as a small meal, so that's on my list to avoid too.

MiltonNorthern · 15/03/2024 07:09

That's amazing! Ozempic/wegovy is incredible. I lost 1.5 stones but then it plateaued. I seem to have got used to the effects. I'm still on it and maintaining while I prepare myself to continue without wegovy. I am a bit worried about it!

2024istheyearforme · 15/03/2024 07:38

@EmotionalOverEater oh god I wish I could stop the diet drinks but it's an addiction I'll need to combat when in a better space. Im addicted to energy drinks so even though I've gotten off everything sugar I still have to have diet energy drinks :D although I am trying to reduce the amount I have and my plan is to keep reducing til June and then quit, will be easier for me to quit in the summer as I'm so busy this summer and it'll be warm and more comfortable for me haha.

@MiltonNorthern if you find weight loss stopping it's worth coming off it for a while and trying to portion control etc yourself for saying 2 months and then trying again :) that's what my Dr said too he said he's seen success when people have taken a break and then gone back to it. I'm hoping I atleast get to lose 2 stone before I hit any plateau 🤣 at least then I'll be like 11 stone which isn't far off my goal and still smaller than I've been since I was a teenager.

This morning I only lost half a lb but Saturday it'll mark 7 days since first injection and so far still lost 8lb so I'm still amazed for the first week :D

Side effects: I have constipation in so far as I haven't gone yet and I used to be regular but it's not bothering me and I'm using some aids, no other effects that I can see.

the problem with this is that they put you back down to 0.25mg if you have more than 2 weeks break and I'm not prepared to pay £200 a month for 3 months just to get back up to a dose that has any impact.

2024istheyearforme · 15/03/2024 10:59

@MiltonNorthern Ah that's true though!

Do you feel your eating the same as when you were losing weight with it?

2024istheyearforme · 15/03/2024 10:59

@MiltonNorthern Ah that's true though!

Do you feel your eating the same as when you were losing weight with it?

No. Basically I feel my appetite is reduced but I can now eat 'normal' amounts and I would need willpower to eat fewer calories, whereas when I was losing I was only able to eat small portions at meals and was actively feeling full between meals. I don't feel that now, so I'm now just maintaining. I don't mind maintaining but I don't want to spend £200 a month to do it 😆 so I do need to come off wegovy but I need to be mentally prepared for it so that when the appetite increases I can avoid over eating.

2024istheyearforme · 15/03/2024 11:05

@MiltonNorthern yeah that's fair enough, i would try psyllium husk alongside it for a month, I lost weight just double that once, I'd drink a psyllium husk drink about 4 times a day before meals and I would eat less :D might be worth trying haha

OP posts:
MiltonNorthern · 15/03/2024 11:12

Yes that's one thing I am going to try! Thank you :)
