Cambridge diet is it a good thing to do

Want to lose weight fast and thinking about Cambridge diet or 1:1 diet they call it now.
I am 13 stone and five foot.
Has anyone got any experience of this and how easy/hard it is?

sounds stupid, I've done low cal meal replacement i.e slimfast and always gained it back
cut out all upf, restrict carbs, try intermittent fasting/one meal a day
will have a bigger effect imo
we have similar stats. it's very hard to do low cal at a short height as our resting cal rate/tdee is already low

vixxxymi · 28/02/2024 19:09

I know some women at my work doing the plan and the weight is coming off quicker than a normal diet but it does seem hard.

I think the weight does come off fast but most people end up putting it all back on and more on top. It isn’t sustainable

Keroppi · 28/02/2024 19:15

i guess since the restriction of cals is so intense the weight would fly off, plus it always comes off fast to start with
perhaps you could adopt a home made approach of no brekky, making a veg/fruit smoothie for lunch similar to the cambridge ones
then an ultra healthy loads of veggies and meat/eggs for tea

i would imagine that would still have great results and not have to shell out for anything

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 28/02/2024 19:21

Will you have the willpower to stick to it? Logically the best diet for you to try is the one you are most likely to stick to (for me it's calorie counting as I can eat what I like within my calories)

vixxxymi · 28/02/2024 19:24

I'm not sure if I could stick to it as not sure what it's like?
Has anyone done it?

if you do a search or look at the bottom on related threads there's lots of previous threads with people keeping each other motivated etc too. x

I did two slimfast shakes and a 600 calorie dinner instead. It was much more manageable and the weight still flew off. I lost two stone in 11 weeks, then swapped over to calorie counting for the remaining weight.

I've done it. I lost about 4 stone on it a few years ago. The first few days are really hard because you're very hungry, but if you drink tons of water and get through those first few days then you go into ketosis and it all gets easier after that. You no longer feel hungry. I used to have two shakes a day (either the choc mint sachets or the ready made chocolate ones in a carton) and one bar. I didn't like any of their other products (I'm quite fussy!) but I was quite happy on those products. I lost over 4 stone in about 6 months.

Have you kept the weight off @mumof1or2?

Estellaa · 28/02/2024 20:21

I did exante. It worked but most of it tasted disgusting and it was hard at first. Just go keto, you get to eat and still get the same results.

Yes I have! A couple of times half a stone has crept on and I've done Cambridge again for a month to get it back off, but all in all it's stayed off. People who say the weight piled back on again probably went back to eating exactly as they were before. As long as you understand that you if you go back to over eating, you'll put the weight back on again, then you can keep it off. I eat about 1500 calories a day now (although I rarely calorie count anymore) and the weight has stayed off.

I disagree that you get the same results on keto. Cambridge is a VLCD (very low calorie diet) and so as well as being in ketosis, you're also in a massive calorie deficit. That's why it's so effective and why it works so quickly. It's hard to replicate that without doing keto AND also eating no more than 800 calories a day. Cambridge is just an easy and convenient way of doing it, but any diet where you're in ketosis and also a massive calorie deficit would have the same effect. Keto on its own - I don't think would.

Estellaa · 28/02/2024 22:03

I can lose a pound a day when on serious strict keto, which is actually better than i got on exante 🤷‍♀️

Hoglet70 · 29/02/2024 06:47

My friend got really skinny on it and raved about it. I thought it sounded horrendous but she likes being skinny and I like eating.

GreatGateauxsby · 29/02/2024 06:53

I did it and went down to 9 stone.
I was very committed over a long period and maintained 9-9.5 for a year via frankly unhealthy eating practices.

i then clung to 10.5 with difficulty (4 x per week hard gym sessions /classes and healthy eating but watching food intake…. It was basically a part time job managing my weight)
then life happened and I didn’t have time to devote 15+ hours a week to gym, meal planning and cooking..:

now over 15 stone 🤦🏻‍♀️

to quote Cher
“if I could turn back tiiiiiime”

Londonnight · 29/02/2024 07:17

I have lost 6 stone on the Cambridge 1.1 diet. It took me about 8 months doing step 3. You can do various steps on the diet. Ia being all their products a day. Step 3 is two products a day, plus a 600 cal meal. It really worked for me as I still wanted to include food into my day.

Six months since losing all the weight, I have maintained and if anything still losing a small amount.

Luckydog7 · 29/02/2024 07:19

I've been tempted a few times but concerned about how processed it was and about piling it back on after my body getting used to eating no food.

I do a kind of own version but with real food. No breakfast, broth like soup for lunch. Snacks of black coffee with cream, babybel or egg then a 'normal' sized dinner of protein and veg.

Last night I had paneer, couliflour and courgette spinach. With a small amount of butter chicken and yoghurt.

Other nights

Bolognese meat with butter fried broccoli

Salmon in lemon, garlic and cream sauce with shredded spouts.

Burger patties with cheese, salsa and coleslaw

Chicken and bacon baked in creamy mushroom sauce.

Stir fried beef and broccoli with garlic and soy sauce.

Home made nuggets (chicken dipped in egg then parmesan) with hm ranch dressing and coleslaw.

Fajita chicken without the flatbread with fried peppers and onions, sour cream, cheese and salsa.

I know two people who have done this, one woman I’d say was around 35-40, I’d say about 5ft tall and maybe 14-15 stone (I’m trying to remember what she told me). She lost a lot of weight but as soon as she tried to go back to normal, healthy eating she started regaining weight. She has put it all back on and more probably.

vixxxymi · 29/02/2024 09:22

My friend done apparently
I only found this out
She said it tasted terrible and her oh complaining that it had a chemical taste in all food packs

Thats because these diets don't really teach you how to make healthy changes for life, imo. Lots of people do the diet, lose weight, then go back to eating the way they did before, obviously they will pile the weight back on.

It can have bad gastric side effects, wind and one mantra of exante was, never trust a fart.

BedRot · 07/03/2024 14:09

I’m thinking of doing this but have also just started a trial of HRT. The HRT seems to be working well and no side effects at all so far. Is there any reason why I should t combine the two? Has anyone else done this diet whilst on HRT?

AT76 · 05/06/2024 09:21

I’m on day three of the 1:1… seems to be ok so far. Did anyone try it in the end?
