I personally prefer slimming world as it has more food that is free/unlimited and has two categories for food that won't add to your daily points/syns. I was so hungry on ww and couldn't have the food I really like (rice and pasta). Obviously don't go crazy with the unlimited food.

Honey isn't pointed as high on sw compared to ww, I like having a teaspoon of honey on greek yogurt to sweeten it up.

SW is on sale at the moment. It's £45 for 3 months instead of £60. WW is cheaper though (I think it's £10 a month).

The only thing is, you have to let it change your eating habits otherwise you'll put the weight back on when you stop. I stopped slimming world from October-end of xmas, and I kept to it mostly but just didn't track. I only gained 2lbs over that time.

Menora · 08/01/2024 17:59

@Dinkiedoo they aren’t the best way to lose weight either, I’ve never had long term success and it’s more money down the drain. Even the NHS has a free app for food and exercise you don’t have to pay someone to do this

ChanelNo19EDT · 08/01/2024 18:10

What's your limit (calories)??. I eat all healthy foods (real food) but I still have to keep a very close eye on how much I eat. If I were to eat the recommended amounts for a woman of my age and height I'd put on weight, so it may be the depressing truth that you need a lot less calories than you think.

I'm doing everything! eating in a narrow window, cutting out sugar, very minimal white (or brown) carbs. Right now I'm trying to do 800 every second day, that's the strategy for now.##

But this time last year I went to the gp because of a plateau and she said that it has to be six weeks of no weight loss before it's a ''plateau''.

I kept going, and going, and going, and although it was slow, I lost 7 and a half kilos last year. It slowed down before Christmas! I put some on, argh. Back on the wagon again, and again, it's slow...................

Since October ! My coach says Im eating right and its a plateau

You need a new coach. They basically don't want to admit that whatever plan they've given you doesn't work. You can get a plateau after you've had some loss but you say you've had none. October to January isn't a plateau it's a plan that cleanly isn't working.

A good coach would properly try to work out why you weren't losing and make appropriate changes. Sack your coach. Track you calories and make sure you're in a deficit.

ChanelNo19EDT · 08/01/2024 18:17

@shearwater2 that calculator looks accurate. So many aren't. I put in my age and my height and it doesn't surprise me that I only need 1391 calories per day. I had settled on 1400 as a maintaining weight. But to see it in black and white there helps me. I know that that's just how it is and I haven't damaged my metabolism. Some of the calculators out there have told me I need 1700 per day and I just rolled my eyes. I'd be the size of a house in no time if I increased how much I ate that much.

Don't so that. Weight watchers and slimming world are a con. Anyone who tells you mashing a banana will make you gain weight but eating 5 whole is fine is a complete moron.

Calories deficit is the key. I've heard good things about Team RH. Much cheaper than SW and WE as well.

Menora · 08/01/2024 18:24

@ChanelNo19EDT doesnt it also depend on how sedentary or active you are? If you work as a nurse in a hospital on your feet all day you will have a higher TDEE than someone at a desk

Half a stone of weight loss on seven days is water surely?

that’s a calorie deficit of 3000 calories a day which would mean eating nothing and running 10k 🤔

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 08/01/2024 18:36

@Menora nursing is a poor example, the effects of stress/cortisol/shiftwork makes loosing weight very difficult no matter the step count.
lots of research on nurses and why they tend to carry excess weight as well as have a higher risk of breast cancer.

It's also poop...
I realised it once after some issues... People start eating less, different food which goes through differently and et voilà.... Less poop inside....

Menora · 08/01/2024 18:55

@CurlsnSunshinetime4tea I just pulled it out of the air really to discuss TDEE. I accept this wasn’t the best example. My activity is low as I am desk based so my TDEE is lower than someone who is active all day.

Dinkiedoo · 08/01/2024 19:07

Its via NHS so no cost involved

Are they telling you what to eat or just a calorie amount to stick too?

Dinkiedoo · 08/01/2024 19:18

They give you a recipe book with recipes. All measurements etc. Breakfast lunch dinner.

waistchallenge · 08/01/2024 19:29

Why don't you give your height, weight and activity level and someone will calculate how many calories you need each day for you?

Menora · 08/01/2024 19:39

On the other thread they have you eating 3 x carb heavy meals a day from the sounds of things this is the issue

porridge for breakfast, bread at lunch and pasta at dinner

No it isn't. Carbs aren't different to any other macro. She's not losing weight because she's not in a deficit the macros of the day don't matter.

BIWI · 08/01/2024 19:55

The macros absolutely do matter! A calorie is not a calorie is not a calorie.

High carb diets do ever so slightly better in controlled studies on weight loss but the difference is so small it's not statistically important. They don't matter, if someone is in a negative energy balance they will lose weight.

sodyouraynauds · 08/01/2024 20:15

You maybe losing liver fat/ fat around organs which is not showing on the scales or visible but keep going.
Or/and it could be that you're gaining muscle.
