Healthy, filling, low prep breakfast...does it exist?

Can't find anything for breakfast to help me lose weight! Needs to be filling so I don't want to snack an hour later. Also needs to be quick to prep as I have a very clingy 14mo and find prepping food a at the mo.

I don't like overnight oats but willing to try them again if anyone has any tips on making them a bit nicer? What do you eat for breakfast if you're trying to lose weight?

Asked a friend and she said 'an apple', good for her but if that was me I'd be on the biscuits half am hour later so I need something actually filling!

Protein works have a great breakfast shake if you're willing to try a meal replacement. It's super filling and nutritious!

Codlingmoths · 19/12/2023 22:12

what do you mean by low prep? I make meusli, better for the warmer months though. I make these breakfast biscuits, in batches of 3 x this recipe, freeze them and grab one or two as I go out the door to work. 2 is filling (I make 8 per recipe quantity not 6 as they are pretty solid). So you have to cook them but for the next couple of months I have my grab and go breakfast https://www.recipetineats.com/healthy-oatmeal-breakfast-cookies/

Yoghurt with walnuts on top

fixies · 19/12/2023 22:13

Yogurt with peacan nuts and crushed berries. Needs to be full fat , natural, Greek yogurt to fill you up.

Lysianthus · 19/12/2023 22:14

Yes to overnight oats! Add sultanas, mixed seeds (flax, pumpkin, etc which are in Aldi's pack for 99p) and full fat or semi skimmed milk. V important. The fat keeps you feeling fuller...... its amazing. my other tip is to avoid eating it until you feel hungry. I have a glass of water first thing, then a coffee. I never want breakfast until 10/11 which means I can go until 5/6 and have supper. I guess that's intermittent fasting (ish).

grizzlygrump · 19/12/2023 22:16

Have you tried intermittent fasting? I am so much hungrier if I eat something (anything!) for breakfast than if I don’t - and I feel better, have more energy & focus.

ColourByNumbers88 · 19/12/2023 22:18

You actually need fat to keep you fuller for longer. Buy some digital scales.

35g mix of pumpkin and sunflower seeds with a chopped up apple and some cinnamon sprinkled on top.
OR
2 eggs (scrambled or as an omelette) with mushrooms and spinach.
OR
160g of Fage Greek yoghurt (full fat) with raspberries.

Christmastreeeee · 19/12/2023 22:20

I have banana, full fat yogurt, raw nuts and seeds, and a bit of peanut butter. Lots of protein to keep me going!

mynumber · 19/12/2023 22:23

Put some porridge in the microwave for three minutes and add frozen berries. Easy!

XmasPartyhat · 19/12/2023 22:25

Huel

Be warned, you need to give your body time to adjust to it. Only have one a day for a week or two.

GonnaNeedABiggerBag · 19/12/2023 22:25

Scrambled eggs. Takes less than 5 mins to prep and cook (do them in an omelette pan as opposed to saucepan - wider surface area, so they cook more quickly).

Popskipiekin · 19/12/2023 22:26

I vote the protein route as well: I have skyr yoghurt + flaxseed + bit of peanut butter (pretty calorific so do watch it) + some chopped fruit. Enjoyed slowly with a coffee. And yes to whoever said not to actually eat until you feel hungry.

Peepshowcreepshow · 19/12/2023 22:27

I like overnight oats but it took a while to find a combination I liked. I don't drink cow's milk but don't mind yoghurt. My trials and errors led me to:
40g oats
Raspberry activia drinking yoghurt thing
Spoon of chia
In the morning I add some frozen raspberries and blueberries and a spoon of mixed seeds.

PermanentTemporary · 19/12/2023 22:29

Scrambled eggs. I beat the eggs in the pan with a twist of black pepper and a dash of skimmed milk. Filling, hot, lovely.

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/12/2023 22:31

I have a cereal bar, but then a huge salad with chicken or tuna and feta for lunch

idontlikealdi · 19/12/2023 22:32

10% fage or flourless egg muffins

SunshineAndFizz · 19/12/2023 22:32

Hard boiled eggs. Quicker than making scrambled in the morning. Boil a pan full whenever you've got 10 mins spare and keep in the fridge - I then grab two for brekkie, nice and quick.

MsTwaffles · 19/12/2023 22:34

Normal porridge with cinnamon and if you like a spoon of apple sauce

Baldieheid · 19/12/2023 22:35

Hardboil and peel a few eggs in advance and grab one when you get a chance, with a piece of toast.

Half a tin of low sugar baked beans, slice of toast.

Make a fritatta as you cook dinner and slice up and chill, ready to grab. My favourite has loads of veg and feta.

Precook a pack of sausages and have one or two, with some cherry tomatoes, in a sandwich thin.

Plain yoghurt with frozen fruit and a spoon of your preferred granola type cereal.

A smoothie - yoghurt, frozen fruit and a splosh of milk.

This time of year, I often have a bowl of lentil soup for breakfast. Don't limit it to "breakfast" food.

Katrinawaves · 19/12/2023 22:40

I’m dieting at the moment and my go to breakfasts at the moment are

smoked mackerel fillet, half an avocado and a few cherry tomatoes
scrambled eggs with mushrooms and spinach
poached eggs on spinach
full fat yoghurt with berries/or as a smoothie
boiled eggs with asparagus
smoked salmon with half an avocado and a few cherry tonaties

CruisingForAMusing · 19/12/2023 22:45

Personally I eat full fat Greek yoghurt, blueberries and honey.
BUT I make something for my DH, who works away and stays in digs, and needs something nutritious, quick and filling. It's instant porridge:

  • cheap porridge oats (so that each grain is as small as possible)
  • dried milk powder
  • sugar
  • cinnamon
  • raisins
  • (and I add flax seed powder for DH, for extra nutrition)
I make loads of portions in individual zip lock bags as it keeps forever. Just add boiling water from the kettle and make it in a tupperware cup with a lid.
ErrolTheDragon · 19/12/2023 22:46

flourless egg muffins

I'm curious... are these something like a mini fritatta?

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 19/12/2023 22:46

I swear by porridge. Half cup rolled oats, full cup semi skimmed milk, 1 teaspoon chia. Put in a microwaveable jug and cover then put in the fridge at bedtime. In the morning stir and cook in the microwave. I add loads of golden syrup to mine once cooked and always have. My blood sugar is great, my bmi is 21 something, my cholesterol is great, I'm very active and life's too short not to have golden syrup on my porridge. I used to have cheese on toast at uni. Not quick though really with a clingy baby.

showmethegin · 19/12/2023 22:50

Aldi does a high protein pouch. It has about 27g of protein and 149 calories. It's like thick yoghurt. I have one of those and a banana most days as I have a toddler and no time! It fills me up for ages

Nomorecoconutboosts · 19/12/2023 22:52

Kefir, 2 x fresh fruits (blueberries and grapes usually)
small topping of granola. (All in one bowl)
can replace the kefir with yogurt or drinking type yogurt
