Fast 800

Just about to step on the scales finally…think it’ll be at least 15stone 7 sadly. My birthday was this week and I really don’t want any more overweight ones! Mid forties, always tired, always hungry, but I hope I can finally find the real me again, and fast 800 seems a good way to try. Anyone else doing it?
Today’s Meals: porridge, lentil mousakka & green salad.

I did and lost 3.5 stone. That was in 2019. Have put about half back on. I think it is amazing!

BedtimeCuppa · 06/10/2023 07:09

Well I was right…15 stone 7.2lbs. Damn it. I am determined never to see that number again. I’ve put 5 stone on in five years. It has to stop now.

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 06/10/2023 07:11

I've got the book but not done it. I have 3-4stone to lose. Want some company?!

BedtimeCuppa · 06/10/2023 07:12

@Lotustiger what an achievement! How did you find designing it around your own family meals etc? And if you don’t mind me asking, what would you maybe do differently/take from it?

@LadyGeorginaSmythe yes please!!! Tell me about yourself, I know it does help to have support and Mumsnet can be great for that.

I'm doing it...just getting kids to school but will be back later!! I'm nearly 6 months in....

nowtygaffer · 06/10/2023 07:45

Morning! I started it on Monday. Going OK so far! I was 13st on Monday, now 12.12. I've got blood tests at doctors due and worried I'll be diabetic. I was prediabetic last time so really need to lose some weight.

BedtimeCuppa · 06/10/2023 08:01

Hi @chalkyc2 school run here too, but seem bizarrely organised here today as we are all completely ready with 45 minutes to go before we leave the house! This will no doubt never happen again haha.
@nowtygaffer I hope when the bloods happen they aren’t as bad as you fear; this way of eating is supposed to help diabetes/pre diabetes so fingers crossed.

I’m drinking a cup of hot water, rather than my normal tea, practicing for fasting.

petalsandstars · 06/10/2023 08:35

I’m planning to start this on Monday as it’s a family birthday this weekend so I’d be scuppered before I started otherwise

BedtimeCuppa · 06/10/2023 08:36

@petalsandstars I was the same earlier in the week, birthdays are not the easiest starting point. Hope you all have a nice weekend.

I did this earlier in the year and lost 12kg (and i stopped being so strict towards the end so was probably having 1000-1100 calories per day). I only stopped because i fell pregnant naturally for the first time in 5years of TTC (first baby was assisted conception). 😊

It definitely changed the way i think about food and once baby is born / i stop bfing, I'll def be doing it again.

They also have an app now which i found easier to manage than the books.

Good luck!!

Hello - kids packed off. So I started Fast 800 back in April - I have the online plan but quickly switched around and found the recipes that work etc and established that I need 3 meals a day and whilst I can vaguely keep within 800-100 calories I'm not good at fasting! I need a cuppa in the morning and one before bed to keep me going. So that's been my only cheat.

5.5 months later I'm 30kg down. I relaxed a bit during a 2 week holiday but didn't go wild. I'm keeping going because I need to lose 23kg more. I now do a relaxed 4:3 days but keep on plan with foods and prob don't go over 1200-1400 calories, with 4 days of 800-100 calories. And I try to exercise.

Look - it's hard and it's boring especially for social events - I've not had any alcohol for the whole time apart from on hols. But it's necessary for me and it shifts the weight and dropping bread/pasta seems to have resolved my ibs!!

If you go for it I'll stick around - I don't like the Facebook group because it's super bossy so it's good to chat to others elsewhere!

serialbunburyist · 06/10/2023 08:52

Hi, can I join you? I did the Fast 800 for a couple of weeks a few months ago and found it surprisingly easy but then went on holiday and couldn’t seem to get my head back in it afterwards. Going to start again on Monday.

The family just ate the same things with rice or pasta - the recipes are really good and the kids really like them too

Scoobydoobydoo1234 · 06/10/2023 09:09

I'm doing the Full Diet (which is based on fasting, too). I only eat during an 8 hour window. It seems to be working for me. Slow, steady weight loss and it's really easy to follow. I've also stopped drinking alcohol and think that's helped a lot. Good luck.

Graciebobcat · 06/10/2023 14:07

Yes, it does work if you have a lot to lose. I think most people do put at least some weight back on afterwards if they don't ease off with say, 5:2 or stick with the maintenance which is low carb Mediterranean diet.

I only had about a stone and a half to lose to get to normal BMI and I lost it in 8 weeks. By then though my hair started to fall out even though I was really careful with nutrition.

I was also only able to do it in lockdown - it was early 2021 when I did it. As soon as normal life resumed I couldn't do it at all. And when I stopped I went absolutely mad for alcohol and carbs and put the weight back on quickly, and more. I hadn't binged or emotionally eaten for years and it really took me by surprise - partly it could have been stress and anxiety caused by Covid times or other things going on, but I do think it was down to the diet being too extreme for me.

I couldn't have done much exercise on it either, I only used to do walking and yoga back then. Now I go to the gym three times a week on top of that and focused on building a good exercise regime before I started looking at diet again. I think it buggered up my metabolism for a little while after as it was so easy to gain back the weight.

I'm doing 5:2 and generally 16:8 at the moment, though fairly gently and treating more as a variable calories plan. I don't do a fast day on a gym day. I've done 5:2 before and also put the weight back on. I think the difference is now I have a good exercise routine and won't have to change very much eating wise to switch to maintenance as it isn't too severe or different, and I see it very much as a long term thing. I'll probably do 6:1 after I've lost the weight. I've lost 12lbs in four weeks so far and have about a stone and a half to go.

So I wouldn't advise people against Very Fast 800, particularly if you have a lot to lose, but maybe switch to 5:2 or 4:3 if it fits with your life better.

nowtygaffer · 09/10/2023 08:01

Morning! How is everyone getting on?

I'm doing okay, I haven't lost any for couple of days but I'm determined not to be put off by that this time!

LadyGeorginaSmythe · 09/10/2023 08:10

I meant to do some reading up over the weekend and totally failed. So although I planned to start today, it may have to be tomorrow! I did weigh myself this morning to have a start weight though.

serialbunburyist · 09/10/2023 18:24

I’ve started today. I’m not going to be terribly strict on the calories, aiming for 800-1000 kcal a day. I want to get at least a couple of weeks in of that before thinking about adding in higher calorie days (e.g a reverse 5:2, or 4:3).
Today I’ve had:
Breakfast: protein shake with berries
Lunch: Homemade veg soup with oatcakes and cheese
Dinner: Chilli with cauli rice and salad

I forgot to weigh myself this morning so don’t have a precise starting weight but last I checked I was 17 st 3 lbs so I have plenty to lose. My target weight is 13 st.

nowtygaffer · 13/10/2023 08:44

Hello, how is everyone getting on? I'm now 6 pounds down in 12 days. I've been hungry sometimes but I am getting better at ignoring it!

This is helpful thank you. I’m active and I’m not sure how that fits with 800 calories but could do a fast on rest days. There’s not a lot of guidance on how it could possibly be adapted if you’re regularly burning lots of calories. I don’t want to risk losing muscle or collapsing and I don’t particularly want to cut down on exercise due to all the non weight related benefits.

nowtygaffer · 13/10/2023 13:39

Depending on how much you have to lose I think I would try the Fast 800 for a month or so and just do bare minimum exercise wise. I've been just doing my normal exercise ie bit of yoga, swimming, walking. For me the fact that it's fast weight lost is keeping me motivated. I will up my exercise when I have lost more weight and am in to the maintenance phase because then I will be having more calories.

It’s the risk of muscle loss and fitness I struggle with. But also would like to lose a stone or two so a month might be a good kick start. I wondered if you could maybe eat more but the same diet on a big exercise day or whether it’s the low intake rather than deficit that’s the way it works

lillylovely1993 · 13/10/2023 16:03

What do the ratios mean , 5:3 8:16 etc 🤔

chalkyc2 · 13/10/2023 19:13

Depending on whether it adds up to 7 or 24 it refers to days (of week) or hours (of day). So 5:2 means lower number of calories on 2 days out of 5, 18:6 means fasting for 18 hours between meals.

Jargon!!
