Best way to spend £1000 on weight loss

Hi I've had 2 kids in the last 3 years and I'm over a stone bigger than normal still. I really am very aware this isn't a huge huge amount but I just feel awful and am finding it really hard to stick to a diet. I exercise so much and am running round after rthe kids all day but I love food and find myself rewarding myself for having such tough days with them with food. It's all on my stomach and also just eveywhere I just don't look like me and more.
I thibk I need a new start and I'm going back to work next month after maternity leave and I want to invest in my health an to be honest, my looks, after really not doing much of that these last 3 years. I get paid a bonus when I go back...so what would you suggest to invest in?
Buy a Cross trainer?
Get a fancy gym membership?
Pt?
Slimming club?
Some kind of laser lipo?
Meal subscription?

Really appreciate ideas to sort myself out and happy to chuck money at the situ!!

Thanks

£1000 would go a long way! You could join a gym and get a pt once or twice a week that would give you a meal plan too

Emily29 · 17/09/2023 14:48

Join a gym and go to 3-4 classes per week, track calories and treat yourself to some new gym wear!

Cheeesus · 17/09/2023 14:50

I would say Zoe, some money for lots of vegetables and then what’s the best way of doing some exercise for you.

Dorset555 · 17/09/2023 14:58

Thanks guys! Annoyingly there aren't any gyms very close to my house so I'm worried if they are too far ill struggle to go. I go running every other day ans do a post pregnancy core rehab class twice a week atm

See if there’s a PT near you who trains in their own studio/garden. I did a 6 week programme 3 times a week with someone when my youngest was 18months and lost 7 kilos - the focus really helped

Dorset555 · 17/09/2023 15:06

Oh thanks thats a really good idea I thibk there's a lady near us that does it. I've only ever had a pt once and it was once a week and i really want quicker results!

You can't buy willpower op. If you already exercise you need to lower your calories - no amount of money can make you do that.

Dorset555 · 17/09/2023 15:19

I'll give in then and give the money to charity x

find myself rewarding myself for having such tough days with them with food

You need to change your mindset. The extra weight is making you unhappy so, is that food really a reward?

I’d spend it on a way to reward yourself for a tough day that isn’t related to food. Depending on what your interests are this could be something like:

  • Netflix/ Disney+ etc if you don’t have it
  • really nice bath foam
  • Membership of National Trust/ local museums / forest
  • New bike / paddle board / canoe
  • horse riding lessons
  • getting nails / hair done regularly
  • book / flower subscription

All these will be great for your wellbeing (mental and physical) and a way to move away from thinking about food as how you reward yourself.

Eyesopenwideawake · 17/09/2023 15:31

Spend a third on therapy to change the way you think about food;

"Find myself rewarding myself for having such tough days with them with food"

and blow the rest towards a new wardrobe. 😊

Dorset555 · 17/09/2023 15:32

Thanks so much these are really lovely positive ideas! :-)

You don't need willpower or motivation, you need discipline!

I'd invest in a PT course and get them to give you a home weights program, 1000 will get you a lot of weights equipment.

Gensola · 17/09/2023 15:34

A colleague of mine did a 12 week PT program with a nutrition plan, workouts and day to day support and lost 20 pounds - would be happy to DM the details if you want to check it out, she’s shown on his insta page and her results are amazing.

Gensola · 17/09/2023 15:36

Sorry should have said it was online and over zoom etc so it would work for you wherever you live 😄

JoeLovesGina · 17/09/2023 15:36

Exercise alone won't get the weight off.

Spend your money on good quality food and educate yourself about nutrition. Once you know how harmful junk food is it will be much easier to eat well and you won't need to diet.

Try listening to the Zoe podcasts and read Tim Spector's book Food for Life and also Ultra Processed People by Chris Van Tulleken to get you started.

Dorset555 · 17/09/2023 15:40

New wardrobe sounds like a dream..
.would you recommend treating once you've reached a milestone or just for sticking to the regime?

Get a supply of the Libra 2 blood glucose continuous monitors. It's £100 for a month.

You can see on your phone in real time (every 60 seconds) what your blood glucose is doing. Steady blood glucose stabilises hunger. You eat to stay in the green zones.

You'll probably lose half a stone a month without trying.

inloveandmarried · 17/09/2023 15:41

It's the same monitor that people in the Zoe app are using.

Dorset555 · 17/09/2023 15:44

I'm thinking pt with nutrition + new wardrobe goals! Thanks so much for all the replies really appreciate it and feel ready for a new chapter. The weight used to come off so easily pre children and obvs being younger...the quick results spurred me on so much I think I'm missing that now it seems futile at points! Eating too much food is making me unhappy and I thibk I need to remember that. I also really love healthy food so not sure what my problem is just greedy I guess :-(

I would invest in a diet/nutrition coach and a PT.

The coach will help you address & understand why you eat what you eat, and help prevent you from falling into disordered habits.

The PT will help build healthy exercise habits.

Advice will be personalised.

Dorset555 · 17/09/2023 15:19

I'll give in then and give the money to charity x

What's the point in that?

If you'd use an exercise machine at home, getting one can be much easier than going to the gym. The vast majority just become glorified clothes horses though.. I can see mine from here!

Why would you say you're giving the money to charity just because someone pointed out you need fewer calories/willpower?

Just use it to make sure you can afford to keep yourself stocked with healthy food.

ModeWeasel · 17/09/2023 15:52

A nutrition coaching program like PLT nutrition

Dorset555 · 17/09/2023 16:02

Thansk sorry that was my sarcastic reply to an unhelpful comment! Thanks for all the positive suggestions! :-)

Let's be honest here... if you have a small child and working, time is going to be at a premium. There's no point in PTs, gyms etc when you don't have the time.
Use the money to buy time.

  • healthy food for everyone.
  • cleaner to free up evening/weekend time
  • membership for something up national trust, where you can take the pram and walk... doubling up family and exercise.
