Hi I've had 2 kids in the last 3 years and I'm over a stone bigger than normal still. I really am very aware this isn't a huge huge amount but I just feel awful and am finding it really hard to stick to a diet. I exercise so much and am running round after rthe kids all day but I love food and find myself rewarding myself for having such tough days with them with food. It's all on my stomach and also just eveywhere I just don't look like me and more.
I thibk I need a new start and I'm going back to work next month after maternity leave and I want to invest in my health an to be honest, my looks, after really not doing much of that these last 3 years. I get paid a bonus when I go back...so what would you suggest to invest in?
Buy a Cross trainer?
Get a fancy gym membership?
Pt?
Slimming club?
Some kind of laser lipo?
Meal subscription?

Really appreciate ideas to sort myself out and happy to chuck money at the situ!!

Thanks

PT twice a week, one that will give you at an home routine (you can reduce the sessions as you get going).

Interview a few people to find someone who has a grip on the realities of motherhood.

And get a cleaner who changes the bed and maybe does laundry to free you up to do it.

The supermarkets do enough easy healthy food these days that a meals sub service is unlikely to improve on that much. Get shopping delivered.

As you don’t have a local gym, I’d suggest a good PT who can help with nutrition. I’m someone who rewards myself with food, so willpower is key and it’s something you can’t buy. Do you have someone to watch your children while you do a session?

@inloveandmarried - how do you work out what to eat from just buying the monitor? I’d love a cheaper way to get the info Zoe supplies, as it’s is so expensive.

Gym. Resistance training 3 times a week plus some cardio. Get a good PT and a meal plan. Track calories and exercise on My Fitness Pal.

@Maneattraction

The monitor does only blood sugar but this has a huge impact on the body.

You are looking to keep your after food response within the green zone. A normal response comes back to the pre-eating numbers within 90 minutes.

A healthy diet of slowly absorbed carbohydrates will give you a slight and gradual raise in blood sugar. It won't go out of the green zone.

I have to say it's fairly normal to go into the amber zone after eating a standard diet.

But by choosing slowly absorbed carbohydrates (low GI and dense nutrition) and adding in healthy fats in you are creating an optimal healthy diet.

You have plenty of time to monitor your blood sugar and get to know what will spike your blood sugars. You can work out how you can eat healthily from your readings.

Lots of things affect blood sugar and one of these is gut health. Fermented foods and kefir help keep the gut healthy. Cutting down on caffeine also helps stabilise blood sugar.

Libre 2 do a free two week trial which is worth a go.

A subscription to the nutracheck app. Around £50 you can work out your recommended calories, choose the way of eating you prefer and you can track all your intake. Then some personal training sessions to give you an idea of a reasonable workout to carry on yourself. Or Les Mills online with the necessary kit to work out at home if that is easier to manage around the rest of your life.
It really is more about the eating, I’ve lost about 20kg.

Thanks so much! Really helpful tips. I've taken steps to get my push bike that I loaned to a friend before the 2 kids back, then I've found a low cost gym 7 mins cycle away. The I reckon a food checking app...I've tried noom before so might go with that? And some new gym wear!
Excited to get started!! Exercising and trying to eat right now though.. littlest kid off 2 nursery in 2 weeks 🥳 that's when I'm aiming to really start my new regime

What will you / can you see a a lifelong change ?there isn’t a quick fix weight loss. Even a
gastric sleeve or injections are dependent on you changing your activity levels and style of eating.

personalised diet and exercise support built around you and your family sounds like what you need. But you are going to need to get in and do it iyswim , and the whole family will benefit.

DelilahBucket · 19/09/2023 13:30

You can't out train a bad diet, so diet is where you need to focus. For me to lose a pound a week I would have to run 6km a day, and that is while carefully counting calories to make sure I didn't over eat.
If I could afford it I would go for a meal prep where the calories are already counted as time is my issue. Having your meals already planned for the day may be beneficial to you. You've got your food for the day, and that is it. Nothing else passes your lips.
You also need to change your mindset with the whole "food is a treat thing" so perhaps some hypnotherapy?

Dorset555 · 19/09/2023 13:40

Oh wow can hypnotherapy work for that?? I'm a bit of an all or nothing dieter....I'll go through phases of being really strict and then it all tumbles down ..

I was coming on to say buy a bike as the cycle to work scheme has been game changing for me (lost two stone) but read further down to see you already have one! I got an e bike as I wasn't realistically able to use my push bike up steep windy hills with a queue of traffic behind me!

Dorset555 · 19/09/2023 13:51

Wow 2 stone that's amazing!! I'm going to be working from home so really keen to get into a good routine and habits from the start. There's danger having a TV and kitchen downstairs!

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

will be a lot less than £1,000

Dorset555 · 07/10/2023 12:50

Thanks guys! I joined a gym (40% off and shorter term via an app called hussel fyi), bought some new leggings and got back into weighing myself every day and drinking a pint of water before every meal. Have lost 4 lbs in 2 weeks and feeling so optimistic. Thanks for all the really helpful advice it's been much appreciated!!
