I am really heavy . 99.8 kg. But I’m also really constipated, to the extent that I was awake all night. Taken 2 lots of laxido, so that may get me going. I feel so derailed though. I have no energy, darent go swimming, just want to sit and read. We have people coming to stay this week, and the house is far from guest ready, so I can write a list and get going on that. Good luck everyone.

Theredjellybean · 05/02/2024 21:58

I can't bear to post my weight, so going to just post losses...so started today..
Will report loss next Monday

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/02/2024 06:39

I weigh on Thursdays so My starting weight for 7/7 was 11st2.5 which was my last weigh in. I started a 70 day programme with my PT yesterday as well, he sets me a workout to do 2-3 times a week, plus 2-3 runs a week. He did look at my diet although didn’t tell me anything I didn’t know- swap all the snacks and cereal bars and chocolate for protein, and try to get 100-150g protein a day.
yesterday I tracked everything on my sw app and also on MFP to get the protein grams, but I must admit I’ve gone old skool and jotted down the protein of the things I eat regularly as I can’t be doing with calorie tracking (which comes by default with MFP). I tell you, it’s tough to get the protein in, I had to actively choose it and load my plate with it, then salad/veg and then not much else. Plus I had a protein yogurt, and i added a scoop of protein powder to my overnight oats.

today is my office day, I’ve prepped my oats and also some meatball muffins (dead easy, make mince meatballs, drop one into each hole in a muffin tray, then top with frozen onion, pepper, then pour beaten egg all around and bake) which I will have with salad, cheese and crab sticks. Then dinner will be sausages, scrambled eggs and tinned tomatoes.

Have a good day everyone!

Theredjellybean · 06/02/2024 07:35

@thenewaveragebear1983 ... genuine question...I'm struggling with this obsession the industry and social media has with protein.
When I was a teenager protein and fat was bad...carbs and fibre where in...then we demonized carbs and it was all the rage to do Atkins, then we demonized sugar and refined foods...now it's protein and carbs are ok ...

Do you wonder if all this is the roundabout of diet industry? Infact it really is just calories in vs calories out ?
I am not criticizing, really I'm not, whatever works for each of us...but where did this protein craze come from ?

And if anyone wants a giggle..I still have my weight watchers books from the Early 90's..it was all done on counting units from food groups then...3 protein, 6 carbs, 2 dairy, 2 fat ..I think...when I look at the quantities each unit amounted to, I know I lost weight due to very small portions. Thus calories I think we're under 1000

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/02/2024 09:23

@Zebracat I find coffee / hot lemon tea to relieve constipation.

@Theredjellybean I've never known protein to not be good. At a guess it's probably companies with an agenda to sell a product.

Tummy muscles feel quite sore at the moment without exercising too hard so I've been doing something right.

There's a large lady in my office who talks none stop about how she is going to lose weight. I'm using this as motivation for myself 😊.

I have 6 tubs of homemade veg soup to get through at the moment 🤭.

swinter123 · 06/02/2024 10:06

The science behind eating protein is solid. It’s so important for your body.

Theredjellybean · 06/02/2024 11:05

I didn't say protein science wasn't solid...I was thinking aloud about the swings and roundabout of food fashion....if one food group was so superior to others when trying to lose weight we would all be eating it and be svelte supermodels.

I've just googled the old ww program and I was incorrect in my memory...not surprised I need to bathe in hrt!
You were allowed 5 proteins...but one protein was 1 oz of chicken, 1/4 tin of tuna....so tiny amounts.

I definitely lost weight on it... because frankly it's designed to be around 1000 calories a day in the first few weeks!

Sedgwick · 06/02/2024 13:40

Anyone trying to reduce alcohol, I am enjoying Lucky Saint (blue tin one) lager, .5% alcohol, 53 calories, £1.50 a tin.

Got to week 8 C25K (running 28 mins non stop) and my knee and shin started to hurt. Took a week off and switched to cross trainer, pain free again.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/02/2024 18:39

@Theredjellybean I’m not really sure.

I don’t really believe in calories in/calories out to be honest. The metabolic legacy of food once we eat it (eg causing insulin resistance= weight gain, UPF overriding hunger signals, gut biome etc) there’s so so much science now that supports/proves that calories in /calories out is a fallacy. We aren’t test tubes and we aren’t laboratory rats. Our bodies don’t behave the way they ‘should’ and I personally think the only reason they don’t truthfully tell us , and tax the shit out of UpF is because it’s not an election winner is it?

that being said, I don’t agree that we need all these proteins. The reason why the diet/“heath and fitness” industry is so focussed on it is because it’s impossible to eat enough grams of protein on a calorie restriction diet and still have actual food! they have created a snake oil and called it optimum nutrition. People are trying to build their bodies to be muscular beyond the natural realms of health (and health = fertility in evolutionary terms). If a woman weight trains to be only 15% body fat and huge % muscles, the decrease in oestrogen stops her periods. Regardless of her weight or how healthy she is. I feel better, more energy and less hungry when I eat a lot of protein, but for me that’s 100g a day. Protein has 7kal per g so that’s half my daily calories. To me that’s not actually sustainable either in cost or in variety. So if I want to do that I would have to seek out commercially extracted whey proteins or soy proteins that have artificial sweeteners and all sorts of crap to make it palatable (because it’s a waste product of the dairy industry) - the fact that the diet industry has marketed all this stuff as health food is madness really. (In its blokey black packaging because this is for muscle building not for girlies wanting to lose weight 💪)

genuinely the healthiest and leanest I have ever been was when I cut all UPF and sugar out of my diet, no bread or dairy or grains. I did this for over a year. I didn’t weigh train, I ran and did hiit classes/body weight/yoga and I was so lean, I never thought about diets or food and I never counted a single calorie. Just ate real food, when I was hungry. I wish I could get my headspace back there to do it again but it’s a whole lifestyle and it requires money, dedication and discipline.

Theredjellybean · 08/02/2024 22:31

Hello all...how is everyone getting on ?
I was doing well but today has been epically awful.
Very stressful trip with very early start...caved in and ate my emotions...had egg and sausage mcmuffin , can of coke, expresso with sugar, five rounds of toast ( homemade bread , thick cut big slices) heavy on the butter, and a portion of fries and two glasses of champagne...

Nutritional a bit unhinged...but I'm back on it tomorrow. due a long run in the morning but it's biblical rain so we'll see...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/02/2024 06:54

@Theredjellybean yes, we have epic rain here too. It’s not nice for running, especially if you’re not feeling it anyway.

I weighed in at group last night and I’d gained half a pound, which I’ll be honest and say I was pretty peeved about. I’d had a few poor days at the start of the week but Sunday onwards I’ve been pretty good. I didn’t sabotage myself which is a bit of a change for me, I came home and made a super on plan biryani with wholegrain rice! I’m feeling quite determined this week. It’s now my 40th day ‘dry January’ and I’m still not really wanting a drink which is really positive however I have now got to work on not eating junk in place of wine.

today I need to hit my steps (the rain has prevented even dog walking here, and looked at me with a sad face yesterday morning when I offered a walk) , and do my 2nd hiit workout for my pt. It’s weird but I have this mental block around it, I am just going to have to be brave and do it when family are here because I’m never alone….
I’ve planned all my meals and I need to do a shop. I’m very glad it’s the weekend and I’ve got a big schedule of jobs to do, mostly cleaning but I’m actually looking forward to getting the windows open and blitzing it with some music on.

just seen a podcast recommended on another thread, it’s called maintenance phase and it seems to be lots of sound advice, debunking “wellness” myths etc, which sounds right up my street, so I’m going to listen to a few eps of that as well.

Theredjellybean · 09/02/2024 08:04

Ooh I love a good cleaning spree ..and think of the calories you'll burn.
Do you exercise twice in a day ? That's impressive.
It's really annoying when the scales "lie" like that and you don't feel it's a true reflection of the week.
But onwards...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/02/2024 10:04

@Theredjellybean no, I am doing 2 hiit workouts a week at the moment for a programme with a PT , I used to run and occasionally do a w/out but I don’t think it was very good for me! I do walk 5 miles (ish) every day now in addition to my running or workout. this weather is no fun for outdoor fitness though is it? The rain/wind combo is so miserable. I was freezing this morning, the dog was up to her knees in filth and it all just seems a lot of mess and hard work!

Zebracat · 09/02/2024 16:00

I’ve been cleaning all day, because our Dd is bringing a boy home for the weekend, and I don’t want her to feel ashamed. I’ve seen pictures and his family home is all crisp and Scandi….. still got the bathrooms to do, then some cooking, but it looks nice, kind of wish it was like this all the time. I have eaten a lot of bread and jam and a crunchie though.

Theredjellybean · 09/02/2024 16:19

I have been wet windy mud running today and then....drum roll please...been sea swimming in sea water pool.
I live walking distance to a sea pool and usually only use it when it's warmer weather but trying to go more as there is nice community of coldxwater swimmers and my DP loves it ..bloomin heck is all I can say ..and I actually said something much ruder at the time.
The dogs sat on rocks looking at me with puzzled expressions...two then promptly ran in and out of the sea on the beach ..I did try to explain to them but not sure they are that bright.
One is definitely SEN...

Mattietoes · 09/02/2024 16:24

Very impressed with the swimming/cleaning!! I have been a total disaster this week, eating everything in sight and not doing a spot of exercise. Don't know what's got into me. Need to give my head a serious wobble as it's getting out of hand...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/02/2024 18:58

ah @Mattietoes , we’ve all been there! What exercise do you like?

today I did my pt workout, (it’s a 30 mins body weight/dumbells thingy) and I’ve walked the dog twice and done some housework after work. I’ve clocked in 16k steps! That’s a lot for a work day and I didn’t run. I decided that instead of wine I needed to wind down after work with a bit of housework, it saves me spending the weekend cleaning and everything looks nice now so I can sit down and chill.

I’m having chicken thighs and sweet potato wedges for tea, I’m starving!

Mattietoes · 09/02/2024 19:04

@thenewaveragebear1983 Honestly I'm in such a fragile state that just your understanding has made me tearful! Thank you. I've never been a great one for exercise outside walking - usually lots of it and quite fast. In 2022 I got very into the gym (cardio + weights) and running. Got to the point where I could do a (slow!) 10k and I did feel great, really strong and fit. Got out of the habit this time last year and never got back into it - and now feel sick at the thought of entering a gym in current state! It's been difficult this week as I've suddenly developed very bad heel pain - I suspect it's plantar fasciitis. So I think for now I'll have to focus on diet while it heals. But I do need to actually get down to focusing on diet!!

Theredjellybean · 09/02/2024 21:35

@Mattietoes .. definitely treat the plantar fascitis...rest, supportive footwear and do the rolling exercises.
It's funny how exercise can be so ingrained,we feel amazing and then we stop...it happens to me all the time...you miss a few weeks and poof all habits out the window.
But I think don't think about it right now, focus on food and maybe just one small step at a time.
Can you think of one thing you could do starting tomorrow?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/02/2024 07:34

@Mattietoes and the stair drop exercises! PF comes from my calves and I know I get it worse when I’m not stretching after running which is always and because I have rolly ankles and floppy arches. I stand away from the kitchen counter and do a weird lean/press thing while my coffee is brewing in the morning and (try to) every time I’m in the kitchen. It really does help! It’s miserable though. Are you at home a lot, in bare feet or flat slippers? I have to wear Birkenstocks or fitflop slippers now at home (again, when I remember which is never) 👎

Mattietoes · 10/02/2024 08:55

@thenewaveragebear1983 Ah yes, I had tendonitis in the same foot before and was given some heel drop exercises by a physio, so I'll start doing those again. It's not the worst affliction in the world but a bit debilitating to be hobbling around!

I'm going to incorporate some intermittent fasting this weekend - didn't end up having dinner last night and rushing around this morning so will eat early afternoon, which is a decent fasting window. It's something that tends to work for me quite well.

Hope everyone else has a good weekend!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/02/2024 06:36

It is quite debilitating though @Mattietoes especially if like me you wake up and your feet have turned to stone, hobbling across the landing and down the stairs. It certainly doesn’t make me feel like exercising and that can change the mood of my whole day.

I had a really good day yesterday, got lots of jobs done, 26k steps, went for a run. My shopping order was due at 7pm, no order arrived, called Asda and it was cancelled! 😡 dh and the boys had a dominoes, I very grumpily made myself a baked potato and beans… then at 9.30 the shopping arrived! I was fuming! At least I don’t need to go to a supermarket today!

i looked back over my week and I have had a pretty good week. I have stuck to plan every single day since last Monday, genuinely I can’t remember the last time I have actually properly done that (there’s always been a cheat day or a thing I didn’t count or just a blatant fail!) - the only difference really is that I have had more protein, and as a result I don’t think I’ve snacked as much and I haven’t had any cereal bars or that kind of thing. I’m feeling quite positive about the week ahead and weigh in now, I could do with a little whoosh to take me under 11 stone again!

Sedgwick · 11/02/2024 11:27

@thenewaveragebear1983 well done and keep going!

I need a restart, will weigh in the morning. Been a bit stressful here, stupid stuff like water pressure dropped off to a dribble for 48 hours (we have our own water supply in the middle of nowhere). Lots of other things outside of our control went wrong but all good now.

Theredjellybean · 12/02/2024 08:02

Good morning all..
First weigh in ..I've lost 3.5 lbs which is somewhat of a surprise.
Apart from one bad day which was still not terriblely over calories I've been good .
But think some of my high starting weight was water retention and hormones???
Any way I am pleased.
Anyone else weighing today ?

Sedgwick · 12/02/2024 08:40

@Theredjellybean that’s a great result! I will weigh a bit later but expect to have gained. Plumber here at the moment.
