@Sedgwick well done on the 2 lbs loss, that's extremely good at this time of year, you should be proud.

Aghhh posted too soon.

@PinkArt happy birthday and enjoy your cake. I think we are going to do a choose 7/7 or 5/7 because some find 7 lbs too much. I think I'm going for the 5/7 because I promised myself I would go easy on the diet this year and also I just might achieve a 6 or 7 lbs loss when only aiming for 5 and that would make me feel good.

@thenewaveragebear1983 Don't feel embarrassed, we are your friends, we won't judge you and anyway I've done spectacularly badly over the festive period. You know you can do this, we all know you can, so deep breath and restart (just had to pause as I've spilt a huge glass of Diet Coke all over the kitchen floor).

I'm so pleased all the excess is over, I had a jacket potato and salad today with cottage cheese and coleslaw and I swear it tasted better than anything I ate over Christmas, it felt so good not to be filling my face with rubbish that I wasn't particularly even enjoying. I cannot for the life of me decide why I do this when I end up not even enjoying it. Even the sweet stuff became monotonous and you all know about my sweet tooth.

Anyway, it's been better today and I hope it will be healthier eating for all of us tomorrow.

Happy birthday @PinkArt

Today was the first day in a very long time that I didn't eat any treats. It was surprising okay, just need to keep it up......

poorpaws · 04/01/2024 08:51

@endlesswashing yayy a good day, keep up the good work. I had a good day too and only suffered a little late evening so went to bed early, the rest of the day was surprisingly easy 😁

Happy birthday @PinkArt

@thenewaveragebear1983 don't feel embarrassed. I had a great two days food wise until about 9 pm yesterday when I ate many celebrations. Why?? I don't know. Its easy to fall into feelings of shame. But I won't. It's just food.
After a week of eating like a little pig I'm not doing too badly. Every day has some positives.

So trying to avoid the evening binge for me!

Sedgwick · 04/01/2024 11:54

Belated Happy Birthday @PinkArt . Hope everyone has a good day.

PinkArt · 04/01/2024 16:02

Thanks for all the birthday love!
Cake aside, I'm feeling in a really good headspace to crack this again. Because of my birthday, and my sister's later in Jan, I never do a super strict Jan diet but I hav a fridge full of veg that I'm actually looking forwards to working my way through. I also have a huge amount of post Christmas chocolate still, but no burning desire to binge it, which is a great sign.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2024 19:30

I faced the scales….
I gained 6.5lbs over the two weeks which isn’t as terrible as I feared.
collected my shopping order from Asda on my way home so now my fridge is fully stocked with healthy goodness.
i’ve got some nice things planned this week and no social events or anything to get in my way so it’s game on!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2024 19:30

And happy birthday @PinkArt !

Sedgwick · 05/01/2024 11:03

@thenewaveragebear1983 I am sure you will lose that quickly, it’s not so bad.

Hurrah, Christmas and New Year ✅. Taking down the decorations today as I know tomorrow is a busy day.

Zebracat · 05/01/2024 11:26

Morning everyone. I know I’ve been missing from here. I got covid for the first time. It’s been over 3 weeks and I still feel like s**t. I think Ihave a chest infection.. I weighed 100.7 kilos this morning. I vowed this year that I would never ever go above 100 kilos again, so I am really disappointed. It is interesting though because. I have had no appetite, really not eaten much or drunk any alcohol. But I haven’t been able to swim, I’ve still walked the dogs, but shorter walks, and we’ve eaten much more processed food than usual, pizza and crumpets etc, because we’ve had no energy or appetite.
I just looked back here and I’ve gained a kilo since 4 th December, which is not that bad, if my weight hadn’t already been creeping up.
It’s been a difficult year, lots of family issues, a hip replacement and the loss of my best friend to cancer. I have a lot to be thankful for though.
I’m currently reading Why we eat ( too much). I’m sure others will have read it but it’s a revelation to me. It’s by dr Andrew Jenkinson, a bariatric surgeon at UCH, London, so not a quack.. I’m halfway through so I understand why I’m fat, but not yet what I need to do to change it. I will have finished by Monday and then I will be making any changes needed. Feeling positive. I bought it because my ds is morbidly obese and recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He’s doing the fast 800, and sticking to calories, but i don’t think his food choices are right. Obviously I want to help him make sustainable changes, it is not a question of gritting your teeth until you hit a target weight and then going back to your old ways. So Im up for starting on Monday, hope I will be better by then. Sorry this is so long.

PinkArt · 05/01/2024 13:38

It's really doing the rounds at the moment @Zebracat. I had it in November but a lot of friends seem to have picked it up over Christmas. Be nice to yourself - that gain is covid's, not yours.

My first weight in of 5/7 or 7/7, as I weigh on Fridays.
18'7, which is fucking terrrible but I've not gained over Christmas or New Years thanks to spending time with my very energetic little nieces. So I think I should be able to smash 7/7 with that as a starting point. To the vegetables!
Start: 18'7
Loss this week: n/a
Loss overall: n/a
Current: 18'7

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/01/2024 19:22

@Zebracat its definitely doing the rounds, I know quite a few people who have had it recently, and a whole lot more with identical symptoms but who didn’t have it. Take it easy on yourself, the biggest thing I’m noticing is it seems to linger, and make a reappearance every time they start feeling better.

i’ve had a really good day today, I’ve eaten loads of good healthy, on plan food! I think the first few days that’s my aim, to just eat as much as I need to wean myself off the sugary stuff. This is the first day in 2 weeks I’ve not ended up eating sugar so hopefully my strategy has worked. I have a steak and sweet potato chips tonight, I can’t wait!

I prepped a big fruit salad of melon, pineapple, grapes, mango and blueberries to snack on over the weekend, plus I cooked a chicken and stripped all the meat off for breakfasts and lunches too. I’m going to try a hash tomorrow morning, chicken, sweet potato, eggs, spinach which is a new recipe, plus I saw a really nice looking chopped salad with a chipotle/lime/mayo dressing which also looked delish and was similar ingredients so I might prep that for my lunch tomorrow.

endlesswashing · 07/01/2024 11:27

Does anyone else find it more difficult to stick to healthy eating at the weekend?

Had a few treats yesterday but not as many as I could have so not a total blow out.

Got quite a lot on my to do list today but I'm procrastinating...

Sedgwick · 07/01/2024 16:03

@endlesswashing yes definitely, Friday and Saturday are fine now I am not drinking alcohol but Sunday is hard. We have a traditional roast dinner every week (except in August 😂) always with a mountain of delicious roast potatoes. DH cooks most Sundays and is generous with everything. Crumble and icecream for pudding which I skip. Some weeks I stick to the meat and green veg but usually I tuck in and have seconds. It’s one meal a week is my thinking. I am always heavier on a Monday than on a Saturday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/01/2024 19:36

I’ve had a really productive weekend, got loads of jobs done yesterday and made some good plans for the coming year for little house projects and other things I want to do. Today I went for a 10km run which was hard going and I felt the effect of an excessive Christmas. I’ve stuck to my diet plan, and no alcohol. So all in all, a great weekend!

this week- more of the same, I want to run a couple of mornings and my food is all planned. I have not been able to weigh myself as I smashed my scales so I am feeling a bit weird as I do like to ‘check in’ but I will have to wait to weigh in at group on thurs.

Theredjellybean · 08/01/2024 06:59

Good morning all...I'm back from skiing.
Trying to pluck up courage to get on scales...

Theredjellybean · 08/01/2024 10:53

Ok....it wasn't so bad.
73 kgs on the dot.
I'm happy at 70 kgs...so I'm going 7 in 7.
Going back to lbs...so today 160.6 lbs.

Zebracat · 08/01/2024 11:23

Good Morning. 100.2 kgs for me. Appalling. I’m not joining in for the 7 in 7. I’m doing this why we eat (too much ) thing. He does say to throw out the scales, but I know when I do that, my weight goes up, so I will weigh weekly, but my aim is to lower my set point, not to lose a certain amount asap. My goal for the first week is to cut out sugar and wheat.

TalkToTheHand123 · 08/01/2024 13:22

Hi all. Ive done the weightloss hynosis three times now. Feeling a bit more relaxed about food. Hopefully start to notice a loss over the next few weeks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/01/2024 15:06

@TalkToTheHand123 when I did hypnosis I found it really effective, I didn’t really notice it at first but it was like the dial on my appetite got turned down a bit. I should dig those out and make time to listen really.

YourOnMute · 09/01/2024 11:58

Hello everyone. Weighed myself this morning and stayed the same over Xmas so very happy with that. Back on it now! My two aims are to increase steps and reduce/remove evening eating.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/01/2024 19:41

@YourOnMute that’s excellent, well done

it was my office day today and I now feel really frazzled and dehydrated, busy day, lots of driving and not enough water. It leaves me all headachey and fuzzy. I made paella using a Schwartz sachet, I used heck chicken sausages instead of chorizo and it turned out really nice.

Sedgwick · 10/01/2024 10:10

@YourOnMute that’s impressive, nice position to start the NY.

Bit quiet on here. Can’t believe it’s the 10th already! I’ve lost 3.5 lbs this year. Eating a lot of veg and pulses. Still not back to where I was in October though. Thinking of booking a visit to a salon for a leg wax and pedicure at the end of the month as a reward for dry January and hopefully to celebrate losing weight. Haven’t had a wax in decades and a pedicure is usually only once a year. On week 5 C25K.

YourOnMute · 10/01/2024 10:37

Thank you both and well done to you too!
I think it was the exercise that helped keep it off.
However I'm good at maintaining this weight, not so good at losing it! I put on a lot over Covid, got down to 79kg, and just seem to hover there. My pre covid hover weight was 71.
Didn't make the gym last night as the roads were treacherous (bit of a drive in the country).
