Oh Sedgwick, love the sound of your attic room. Get in there. I have a summerhouse which I reclaimed from junky shed last year. My son has his eye on it as an office, hmm we’ll see. We have been really unwell with covid. I haven’t weighed myself or my food. But I’ve not had much appetite so I don’t think it will be too bad. My ds has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and some nasty co morbidities. He’s been offered liquid diets and bariatric surgery. It’s finally come home to him that his overeating and drinking is seriously damaging his health, so for 2 weeks he’s been doing the fast 800. It is a relief , watching him eating himself to death was awful. Obviously we want to support him as best we can. I think he’s got a lot to learn about nutrition, but I bought him the books and GP is supervising. He won’t thank me for trying to steer him. I hope it will be good for all of us in the long run.
we are supposed to be out for Christmas lunch, I’m well enough but m6 Dh s still quite rough, and has the awful cough. So we will need a plan b. It will be over 2 weeks for both of us by Monday, but Ds and Dd might yet succumb

I am doing my final weigh in of 2023...drum roll...talalalala....
i have ended the year at 71.3 kgs

It is a very good result, and while i could have done better I am pleased.
Last year at this time i was 73.5 kgs

so considering i am a 50 something menopausal woman who started hrt this year and probably has drunk too much alcohol overall ( and had hideous stressful jan - june with dsd being so ill) I am pleased

i feel good about myself, i have bought new clothes and definitely more stylish and confident in how my body shape is now than a year ago.

i am going to try very hard not to stuff my face completely or drink squillions of cocktails ...luckily i am at work today , tomorrow and boxing day so that does limit things a bit...though i have already fallen into the pringle tubes here in the staff room...

i hope everyone on the thread has a really lovely christmas whatever they are doing...and @poorpaws our great and golden leader please pull the wagon to halt for few days and we can gird ourselves for the big wagon ride on 2024...

TalkToTheHand123 · 24/12/2023 00:00

Hi all. I can't believe it. I'm back to my original 15 stones. It took me about a year to lose a stone and now I have put it back on somewhere over the last few months.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Theredjellybean · 24/12/2023 10:14

@TalkToTheHand123 ..I can understand your frustration and disappointment but....you have us and we are all going to regroup and try again after Christmas...

Sedgwick · 24/12/2023 10:38

@Zebracat thanks, it’s been my New Year’s resolution for at least 5 years! Sorry to read your family’s health problems, hope things improve. My DH has had a cough for ages, he does all the cooking at Christmas and is insisting he is well enough. @TalkToTheHand123 its frustrating regaining, I am looking forward to the regroup already.

TalkToTheHand123 · 24/12/2023 11:41

Aw thank you ladies. Hopefully it's made me be more mindful of my eating.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/12/2023 07:10

Merry Christmas! Have a lovely day whatever you are doing- currently sitting with doggo waiting for the dc to wake up!

I'm taking time out on Christmas Day to wish you all a very happy Christmas and to just let each and every one of you know I think you're awesome and I love you all to bits.

I am parking the wagon until new year when it is being refurbished with new wheels and more comfy seats to keep you firmly on it.

To all of you have a fantastic Christmas week and I hope you enjoy every moment. We're back on it in January and we will all succeed. 🧑‍🎄
(another 7lb in 7 weeks coming in January).

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

Merry Xmas everyone. I'm not fully pausing as I find it really difficult to get back on it after going off the rails.

Just done some leg lifts on the bed. Keep forgetting about this method. Seems to be the best one for me. Not too difficult and feel the muscles getting sore quite quick. Hopefully can remember make it a regular feature in my routine.

Sedgwick · 25/12/2023 13:43

Merry Christmas @poorpaws and the gang.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/12/2023 06:56

Morning all. Boxing Day is my favourite day, much more so than the stress and expectation of 25th. Thankfully I don’t feel too dreadful today, I drank a fair bit but I paced myself and it was good quality wine so while I could have done with several hours more sleep, I don’t feel hungover.
we have sooooooo much food left, I’m going to portion up some leftovers today to freeze but I will also be enjoying a Christmas #2 lunch and a lot of cold cuts, cheeses and chutneys. 😋

my sister came round yesterday and she has lost a lot of weight, like 20kg (what’s that, 3 stone?) since June. She looks really good for it, she’s been doing something called zigzag calorie counting (never heard of it but it’s a sort of quite complicated pattern of higher cal and lower calorie days). It made me quite inspired to focus myself and get my last stone off next year.

Sedgwick · 26/12/2023 12:58

I’ve done a quick google on zigzag calorie counting as it sounded like something I think I accidentally have done and had success with. Doing Fast800 (my go to regime) for 6 or more weeks I have found my body adapts to eating less and weight loss levels off. If however I have a traditional Sunday roast or steak and chips on Friday and then go back to Fast800 it seems to reset the effectiveness of my diet. Zig zag seems a more structured version of this, more like alternate day fasting.

I prefer Boxing Day too, much easier all round.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/12/2023 17:35

Just ordered my new notebook, a lovely A4 spiral bound with a green leather cover. An essential piece of kit for January!

today I’ve enjoyed my Christmas leftovers and some cake, took my doggie for a nice walk and had a lovely afternoon nap - perfect Boxing Day!

tomorrow i’d like to resume a bit of normality and go for a run, it was beautiful running weather today but I couldn’t fit one in! So tomorrow, definitely. I’m at a family do on Thursday bit it shouldn’t be too excessive, and I’m actually weighing in at group on Thursday evening.

@Sedgwick yes I googled it too. I just find straight calorie counting too difficult to stick to, and I can never consistently get low enough to be effective. I loved fast800 when I did it before as well. I would need a clear idea of the ‘cycling’ element of it though as I find I’m much better with clear ‘rules’.

TalkToTheHand123 · 26/12/2023 20:50

I've downloaded a hypnosis for weightloss and weightloss music. I tried this a couple of times a while ago and think it worked a little. Anyone tried either of these?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/12/2023 21:19

@TalkToTheHand123 I used a clearminds hypno recording for binge eating and found it to me really effective. I might dig those out and have a listen again!

poorpaws · 27/12/2023 10:59

Hi everyone, how are you all?

I hope you had a lovely Christmas. I'm quite pleased that it's over tbh. I was given an absolute ton of chocolate/sweets but I'll spread them out over a few months with a bit of luck.

We've only got to get through new year and then the wagon will roll again down the hill of weight loss.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I meant to say before that I loved the photo of Maggie, she is a little beauty.

It's cold and extremely windy here today so I don't think the dogs would appreciate a walk. It could be another lazy day for me, I'm really getting into being idle.

Anyway it was just a quick check in to make sure you are all ok and ready for a re-start in January. What day are you getting back on the wagon, the 1st or is that still the holidays, so the 2nd which is a Tuesday? I'm just wondering what we're all doing in the first week of January.

If you are still celebrating Christmas, have a nice time and if you're back to work today I hope it goes well. If, like me, you're being lazy then enjoy the rest.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/12/2023 11:08

@poorpaws I’m starting today with a day off for nye, I go back to work on the Tuesday 😢 I weighed myself this morning and I’ve gained 5lbs since Thursdays weigh in 😫 but I guess a lot of that is water retention and too much alcohol. Today I’ve drunk lots of water and had Ryvita and cheese with some turkey

TalkToTheHand123 · 27/12/2023 11:15

I've been quite good although not much of choice (driving and childcare) has helped to a degree.

I haven't decided what to do with the big box of biscuits and chocolate. I don't really trust myself. Tempted to throw it all away, although making them last sounds a good plan.

I listened to the hypnosis last night and was really good, although I think at some point the charge ran out on the mp3 player I was using.

poorpaws · 27/12/2023 11:25

@TalkToTheHand123 To spread the treats out I have to remove them from the kitchen because if they are in the kitchen I'll cheat and "just have one" until they are gone. I will put them in the spare room chest of drawers (right next to my summer clothes) so that I have time to think what I am doing before I reach for them.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I am so impressed that you have already started and 5 lbs isn't so bad. I was 6.75 lbs up (so near as damnit half a stone) on Monday and I'm still eating far too much. 7 lbs off in 7 weeks and it will all be back on plus a bit more. I'm not going to get down about it, it's done and now I have to work at getting it back off.

OP posts:
Sedgwick · 27/12/2023 13:10

Not sure what I am going to do. Definitely back on it 2nd January but might try and do a couple of low carb high veg days in between.

poorpaws · 27/12/2023 13:46

@thenewaveragebear1983

Green spiral notebook is a must, I had this one for Christmas and love it.

poorpaws · 27/12/2023 15:29

Haha but mine is proper spiral cos I make lots of mistakes. I love green!

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/12/2023 18:45

I love green too. I hoped mine would arrive today but it hasn’t. I started my day very well but I ended up having chocolate with ds and wine. Oh well. I don’t think I am going to go to weigh in tomorrow, we are out in the day so that will impact my numbers in the evening, and I know that a lot of my gain is water retention and therefore I don’t really want to ‘regain’ half what I’ve battled so hard to lose. So I’m going to write my shopping list and menu and get my head back in gear, tomorrow might be tricky but from Friday I am back on it. I’m really not feeling NYE this year, I’m so tired and I don’t want the hangover on Monday. What I really want to do is stay in with my doggo and go to bed at normal time! (Am I getting old?!)

Theredjellybean · 28/12/2023 08:26

I haven't dared stand on the scales...

I go on holiday today ..so can I do a running start and leap aboard the wagon on Monday 8th ?

Holiday is skiing...so in theory lots of exercise but I always eat waaay tooo much carbs and cheese.
I'm going to try this time to be a little bit more careful and definitely less alcohol.
I've drunk lots over Christmas and I'm really not enjoying waking up with hangover, even mild ones ,every day.
I'm thinking of stopping drinking all together in 2024...it's quite a big decision...I think maybe after holidays I will do dry Jan...then just try extending it...
Right I'm going for a run...as I've also been a bit slacker on that too...and got a half marathon in march
