2 inches all over

My wedding dress has come in and it's about 2 inches too small all over, so 2 at the bust, 2 at hips and 2 at the waist.

I have 9 weeks till first fitting and 17 till the wedding.

How realistic is it to achieve this? 2 inches each place sounds like it shouldn't be too difficult?

Yea sizes are crazy these days. My OH always says babe you're tiny your a size 6, and I always say it's not a real 6! An old 6 would be tiny!

Have you tried it on, to see how it fits now?

Kindly, you need help. Even in today’s money a size 6 IS tiny. That combined with an obsession with your glutes developed in the gym and an intention to try to lose further weight from an already low base to lose 6 inches from your body size is really disturbing.

What is your current BMI and what would it be if you lost the additional 7lbs you are contemplating? Anything under 17 where this is associated with deliberately restricting diet or excessively exercising is indicative of anorexia

badluckorbadvibes · 08/07/2023 13:49

I've only just bought the dress.

This is bizarre. Why did you buy a dress that doesn't for and requires you to lose weight from an already healthy weight?

Helenahandkart · 08/07/2023 13:57

Honestly, this is crazy. You’re already very slim, so losing the amount you want will be very difficult.
I don’t know if you’ve dieted before, but the minute you start dieting you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of problems. Your body will respond by assuming you’re in a state of famine and trying desperately to regain the weight you’re lost, plus a bit more just in case. Given that you sound like you already have a very slim build I would think long and hard before you do a pointless diet which could very likely fuck up your weight forever.
Buy another dress that fits you. Or get this one altered to fit you if that’s possible. But don’t alter your slim healthy body to fit a dress, however lovely the dress is. It really, really isn’t worth it.

The advice to eat one meal a day is fucking awful and irresponsible.

Theunamedcat · 08/07/2023 14:09

You should always size up a wedding dress lace ups are the most forgiving kind

Personally if I was happy with my figure I would not diet just to get into a dress your face will be affected too you might have the perfect figure and a gaunt face

It's a second hand dress, I bought it cos it's a size 8 as am I but this is a size 8 from many years ago and I hadn't accounted for vanity sizing in my excitement of finding the perfect dress.

@Katrinawaves my BMI is 22.3 at the moment, losing 7lbs I would still be in the 20s, according to the NHS calculator I could lose 1st and 9lbs from my current weight before I was considered underweight.

I don't think I need help wanting to lose half a stone ish to fit into a dress. It's not like I am obsessing about being a size zero or losing several dress sizes or anything, just hoping to zip up a dress that is unfortunately a bit small.

ABugWife · 08/07/2023 14:49

I am actually in the upper end of healthy. I already said I couldn't possibly manage on one meal a day and that I wouldn't want to be in a large deficit.

I appreciate the concern and it is lovely that people. Here look out for each other but not every person who is petite has an eating disorder.

I am naturally short with size 3 feet and a small frame.

Weight looks different on everyone

TheOrigRights · 08/07/2023 19:42

Now you've told us your height then yes I think you could do this healthily.
Many people lose weight to be below their natural healthy weight for specific situations - actors, athletes and yes....brides.

lljkk · 08/07/2023 20:06

OP:

What weight were you when you were 34 28 35 ?

what is your planB if you can't get back to 34 28 35?

Sure, go ahead, try to lose weight, but you need a plan B.
I could think of funner things to do in lead up to my wedding than focusing on losing weight.

ABugWife · 08/07/2023 21:13

I've never had beef to measure before which is why I don't know how weight correlates to inches and why I was unsure if it's achievable.

I do have another dress which is too big so can have that taken in if I can't get into the dress that I love, I much much prefer the smaller dress, not because of the style, I just think it's much nicer.

Does anyone know roughly how much weight would be approximately a dress size ?

OP posts:
L1R876 · 08/07/2023 21:14

It depends on where the weight you lose comes off, from. Which is why it's a good idea to exercise, alongside dieting to tone up as you lose some inches. The scales may not budge, but the dress might fit.

Bitterballen · 08/07/2023 21:36

OP for me (5'5, size 12) it's about a stone per dress size (I have ranged from size 14 to size 10, to give you an idea, and there's 2 stone in between for me)

Bitterballen · 08/07/2023 21:37

Honestly I think your first step is going with the dress and talking to a good seamstress.

Is it by a designer & a named style? You could keep looking online for it in a larger size if so.

ABugWife · 08/07/2023 22:06

I do lots of exercise already but my plan to increase my LISS cardio to increase my fat burn.

I eat so much crap so cleaning up my diet should help, be really strict on lactose and have a small deficit.

I will take the dress to the seamstress sooner rather than later though.

It's a customised designer dress, so a one off. I really should have slowed down and remembered about vanity sizing but I am sure one dress size is doable, not so sure about two!

OP posts:
TheOrigRights · 09/07/2023 00:01

I am currently bust 92 waist 77cm and hips 97cm

I had no clue what this is in inches, so I checked.
It's 36-30-38

I'm pretty surprised that's a 6/8.
Are you sure you've measured yourself correctly?

RatatouilleAndFeta · 09/07/2023 06:51

Well, yes you could starve yourself and faint on your special day. Or you could just get a dress that fits?!

mondaytosunday · 09/07/2023 07:30

Lose 7lbs and that means 2in all over? Doubt that.
Have you tried undergarments that cinch you in? Something like a corset?

ABugWife · 09/07/2023 08:10

There will be no starving of myself. That's the whole point of the thread.

I should have worded my thread - how much weigh would equate to to 2 inches ish of weight loss and is that achievable in the time frame I have , in a healthy way.

I genuinely have no idea if say 7lb would sort it and therefore easily doable..... or if 2 inches is more like 2 stone in which case it's clearly not doable in the time.

If I need to lose say 7lb (again I have plucked that out of the air as I am clueless here) then a first week loss of 2lbs and then a steady 1lb a week isn't starving myself or crazy dieting.

That's the point of my question, what am I looking at here?

OP posts:
L1R876 · 09/07/2023 08:25

If you lose weight for the dress, will your normal everyday clothes still fit? Or will you need to buy some new clothes as well?

ABugWife · 09/07/2023 08:53

@L1R876 I will just wear my gym leggings or floaty dresses for awhile.

Ok I have re-measured as so many people are asking if I am sure I am a size 6-8.

Now the lactose bloat has gone I am 35-28-39

See attached pics of my clothes labels and me wearing said clothes. I don't aspire to be a particular size, I don't label up the clothes, I just buy what fits. Vanity sizing is a real thing, I don't say I am size 6 in some desperate deluded attempt to convince people others I am a teeny tiny, I am just short and healthy weight.

OP posts:
L1R876 · 09/07/2023 09:06

I think it is achievable. I'd say go for it!!!
