Ozempic - day 1 and it hasn't yet kicked in!

Stonetolose · 21/03/2023 18:39

I've just started Ozempic and injected my first .25ml dose at around 10 am. So far at 6.30 pm no discernible affect on my appetite or any symptoms. Can anyone please tell me what to expect based on their own experiences? Thank you.

I took my first at about 2pm, ate a full dinner and then snacked in the evening!

by the morning my appetite had gone and still hasn’t come back 6 days on! I’ve had half a slice of toast today and cooking some lamb now hoping to reignite my taste buds a bit, it’s diminished more and more as the week has gone on!

HandlebarLadyTash · 21/03/2023 19:18

Took my first at 9am feeling really hungry as I wait for DH to get in and we can eat.

AlternativelyWired · 21/03/2023 19:39

It's absorbed slowly through the fat under your skin and takes WEEKS to reach the full therapeutic concentration in your system.

It's really worrying that people are taking this and have little idea how it works. Have a read of this which explains some of it. This is from our medical online newspaper for General Practice staff but posted on LinkedIn.

I'd recommend you read the NICE guidelines too.

It's not a magic drug. It doesn't work like a painkiller tablet for a headache. It works on your body over time to decrease your blood sugar readings and as a side effect makes you feel fuller for longer so that's why it's being used for weight loss.

This explains it well.

The LinkedIn article is geared towards those who state it's stopped working after a while but is still worth reading because it explains how the drug works in a very accessible way.

I woke the following day with no appetite whatsoever.x

Stonetolose · 22/03/2023 09:22

Woken up today with a healthy appetite (but not had breakfast yet). So disappointing.

Perhaps it's not the quick fix you were looking for to lose a very small amount of weight??
Also, it would be polite to thank the posters above who have given information and taken time to explain it to you.

It might have been nice if you'd given me a chance to respond (I only put the post up yesterday evening) before criticising my manners as I did not find your comments cordial at all.

Ha, that's true, I was absolutely less than cordial, I apologise! (Might change my username).
You did respond this morning though, ignoring all your replies. That might have been your 'chance to respond'?!

Toadintheroll · 22/03/2023 13:38

It's not a quick fix OP, it's a drug with questionable long term side effects that takes a bit of time to work.

Sameiam · 22/03/2023 13:41

Why even bother for a stone? You’ll gain it back once you stop taking it - even if the hunger suppression works, you’ll have to deal with it coming back hard once you stop.

Just give it a while. It will work. I think after reading that others were sick etc, I was too scared to eat anything the first day.x

Whether it's for a stone, three stone or 10 stone. We will all have to try not to gain it back when we stop taking the drug. Hunger will come back hard for all of us. It gives us all time to rethink our habits. I commend her for taking action before she gets obese and diabetic. Let's just be supportive of all...

Stonetolose · 22/03/2023 13:54

Hi Cordiality, thanks for your apology. And you're right I do need to respond sooner rather than later.

Re both links I've read them and they make for fascinating reading and thank you AltWired, for taking the time to put them out here. I guess that once results and outcomes can be monitored long-term then we'll know how effective this treatment really is; however it's clearly not going to be a one-stop-fix-forever solution.

Interestingly, David Aaronovitch wrote an article in the Times magazine of 4.3.23 (I will try to upload pictures shortly). He states that from the start he was "determined to test it as an appetite suppressant, not as a supplement". This may be of interest to you other posters that have shared your experiences on here.

Expects slow-absorbing long-term medication to work almost instantly; expects posters to allow until the next day for a response to their posts. Love it.

Some posters will not accept anything but opinions and experiences akin to the second coming about Ozempic. Nor will they read much about the drug from a medical or pharmaceutical perspective. It's concerning but its their body although I hope private prescriptions are subject to the same guidelines as the NHS once Wegovy is available.

AlternativelyWired · 22/03/2023 14:00

Cross post there and seems you are now more amenable to learning about the drug. That's good.

Lastnamedidntstick · 22/03/2023 14:06

I thought it was only for BMI in the obese category?

I have looked at it as I need to lose that last stone, but nowhere will prescribe at my weight.

I'm sure someone will for the right money!

XioXio · 22/03/2023 14:24

Where did you get the ozempic prescribed from if you only have a stone? Interested incase when I get down to the last bit of weight and technically under the BMI 30 required and want to keep using it.

tobee · 22/03/2023 14:39

Just to say op did thank in advance! Smile

Why not take a leaf out of the OP's book and upload a photo of someone else in order to surreptitiously get your hands on a pharmaceutical product that's not designed for your needs?

In the end I used my own photo.
