Ozempic - day 1 and it hasn't yet kicked in!

I've just started Ozempic and injected my first .25ml dose at around 10 am. So far at 6.30 pm no discernible affect on my appetite or any symptoms. Can anyone please tell me what to expect based on their own experiences? Thank you.

As an update, by week 2 still nothing momentous has happened with my Ozempic. So I did a .5 dose and still .... nothing!

In a way I'm quite relieved as I won't need to spend around £150 on any more supplies. I do hope it is working for everyone else, though in the end I think it will come down to reducing calorie intake, more exercise and ... willpower.

But am I the only one on here for whom Ozempic does not appear to have worked?

Perhaps if you only have a little to lose the effects are less?

if you’re only a stone over you won’t be eating much more than your calorie requirements anyway. So it could be the appetite suppression doesn’t work as well because your appetite isn’t huge to start with?

there’s usually a reason these things aren’t prescribed to certain demographics.

Stonetolose · 28/03/2023 14:51

That's fair enough, @Lastnamedidntstick

At the end of the day Ozempic is a drug for diabetes. It helps control blood sugar and insulin response. It can also help with weight loss. It’s not a magic wand however.

You have not got a lot to lose. Taking a serious drug like Ozempic to lose a stone in weight really wasn’t the best idea.

I am using Ozempic and have lost 3 stone. For me I think it’s really helped with insulin response. But even with Ozempic I am still having to watch what I eat and exercise will power. It’s recommended to follow a higher protein, low carb and high fibre way of eat with a variety of fruit and veg, lots o water and exercise.

if you followed the same way of eating and tracked your calories using My Fitness Pal you would probably lose a stone in a few months. Without side effects and without spending so much money.

OP are you taking ozempic just for weight loss or are you diabetic ?

Stonetolose · 28/03/2023 15:14

Weight loss so I can head off type 2 diabetes.

Are you at risk of T2 diabetes?

when you say you’re a stone overweight, by what measure?

are you a stone over what you’d like to be, or a stone over normal BMI limits?

Where can I get it ? Just googled some private clinics where you can get it. Is that what you did ? I'm just asking because I'm interested for myself

This explains it well.

The LinkedIn article is geared towards those who state it's stopped working after a while but is still worth reading because it explains how the drug works in a very accessible way.

I've clicked on all the links but I can't find the bit discussing when you feel like it's no longer working. Could you please help direct me to the right bit

Woken up today with a healthy appetite (but not had breakfast yet). So disappointing.

One day? You thought it would make your appetite disappear in one day?

@Stonetolose You don't fall into the BMI range for which Ozempic is legitimately precribed so you're economical with the truth so you can get it. You then disregard any reports of it not working in the way you want and expect it to work from day 1 when there are many, many reports of it not being particularly effecte until 8 or more weeks. When it doesn't work as you , you unilaterally throw the prescription leaflet and dosing instructions out of the window, go off piste and set off on your own dosing regime? What could possibly go wrong?

It really sounds great. But the increased risk of thyroid cancer / tumours puts me off.

EmmaEmerald · 29/03/2023 09:38

I'm very overweight and my doctor told me off for even thinking about it

it's okay, the side effects put me off so I was kidding about trying it

but apparently, she's got so many people asking for it who aren't really candidates...a stone! Now I understand why she's so horrified.

Quite! It’s pretty scary.

No one with a stone to lose should be on this drug.
intermittent fasting with moderate exercise will get the weight off

But surely intermittent fasting with moderate exercise would work for everyone with weight to lose?

Quite.

if it were that simple people wouldn’t be queuing up and deceiving practitioners in to prescribing medications like this one.

another in the long line of quick fixes.

I’m sure if medics started prescribing fenfen for weight loss again people would still take it no hesitation, despite the side effects.
