Can I lose 2 stone in 6 months?

RadioactiveWear · 13/03/2023 11:26

That would be drop 11.5 stone to 9.5 stone.

I’ve lost weight before, but this feels like a big task. I’ve always just had 1 stone, or 1.5 to lose.

Mid 50’s so it feels harder now.

Two stone in six months is achievable...of course it is. That's about 1lb a week. I'm in my forties and sympathise...it's so much harder to lose weight than it was in my twenties. Back then, I could lose half a stone in a week!

Amdone123 · 13/03/2023 11:31

Yes, I think it's possible too.
It's harder as you get older, but doable.
Are you thinking of joining a club or doing it on your own ?

garlicandsapphires · 13/03/2023 11:31

Watching as this is exactly how much I would like to lose.
Going very low carb helps massively.

Amdone123 · 13/03/2023 11:37

@RadioactiveWear , just realised I'd like to lose 1.5 stone in 6 months ( got a special holiday in September, 30th wedding anniversary).
We can mentor each other, and anyone else who wants to come onboard, if you want ?
I'm 13st 7, want to get to 12st really - I look good at that weight ( I'm 55, 5ft 6).

HaveYouSeenNancy · 13/03/2023 11:37

How tall are you? Because I think it depends on how overweight you are? (I'm 11 stone but 5'10", so I wouldn't be able to lose 2 stone). Also, I used to not mind feeling hungry in my 20's and 30's but now if I'm hungry I feel sick and shaky, so if I want to lose a few pounds I have to eat little, often and healthily in stead of going hungry - which I actually find much more difficult as I'm an all or nothing type. But 2 stone is definitely do-able in 6 months.

crazylegscrain · 13/03/2023 11:40

No, I don't think so

I mean you can starve/restrict but you wont be able to sustain that

Set yourself a more achievable target. Aim to
Lose it slower by changing your habits and lifestyle

WarningToTheCurious · 13/03/2023 11:49

I lost 2 stone in my mid 40s in 3.5 months by doing 5:2, and have kept most of off over the last 10 years. For me it had to be calorie restriction to lose weight and exercise to tone up, and found low calories 2 days a week was very doable.

I now use the Fast 800 cookbooks for low carb recipes to maintain, although I do add rice to servings.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 13/03/2023 12:12

Put it this way - did you gain 2 stone in 6 months?

Onegingerhead · 13/03/2023 12:16

Why people say it’s not possible and/or extremely difficult? I m 7 weeks in and lost 1 stone. For some reason I had a very slow start despite going full in (calorie deficit about 1000 a day and LOTS of exercise), but I m now thinking it could be water retention in overexercised muscles.. then the weight suddenly started falling off. I’m about one size down, too…
I don’t starve and eat about 1600-1700 kcal a day or do keto (tried last year and found it was not sustainable for me), so it’s just very sensible eating of good foods plus calorie counting and exercise. Absolutely no alcohol but I never was a drinker anyway..
I m 44, started on 11.7 stone, 10.6 is of today. I’m 5’10” btw.
Target is also 9.5 stone which I was for about 20 years before the lockdown and other associated stress..

Cantmovewontmove · 13/03/2023 12:17

Hey, I'd be up for checking in and trying to make some progress. I'm early 30s and in a complete rut regarding my weight. I have no energy and am about 2.5 stone overweight, 5ft 4.

It a vicious circle of knowing I need to move more to feel more energetic, but being a lazy bastard instead. 😪 I have the fast800 book so might have a look into that as pp has said it works for them.

What do you think, tackle the calorie intake first or increase movement first?

orangepoang · 13/03/2023 12:26

yes you can. i did it and got back to my original healthy weight range that i'd been for a stable 20 years. It's stayed off 18 months and being 2 stone heavier was the biggest i'd ever been.

it's around 1-2 lbs a week which is achievable. i really had to meticulously weigh out portions, look at calorie content and record what i ate in a little notebook (there are loads of apps if that's more your thing).

I had maybe one day a week when i really did stuff food into me (out with friends or eating at a restaurant) but it was nowhere near the amount that i was previously eating on a daily basis but i got straight back on it the next day.

I had to really focus on the mindset of why i wanted / needed to eat less and lose body fat.

no special diets, no avoiding foods just not eating 3000 calories a day and eating a bit more protein and veg. I ate chocolate (still do) chocolate, ice cream and crisps, just not eating an entire 6 pack in one sitting on a daily basis.

Amdone123 · 13/03/2023 12:27

@Cantmovewontmove , I think increase movement first. Maybe find some activity you enjoy. People always say it's 80% diet, 20% exercise, and whilst I agree, exercising makes me feel like I'm doing something for my mental health. Plus, people don't tend to eat whilst exercising !!
But the calorie intake adjustment is going to have to quickly follow !

RadioactiveWear · 14/03/2023 09:02

OMG, I just bit the bullet and weighed myself. I am 79kg. The fattest I have ever been. That makes me 5ft 4", a size 14-16 and my ideal weight is 63kg, meaning I have 15kg to lose. That is loads!

I am off to my new gym this morning and I joined WW's today. I have printed off a 100-day challenge tracker and these are my goals:

100 workouts in 100 days (7 a week, double up on some days to achieve this)
Eat healthily and follow WW's
No alcohol for 100 days
Drink more water (not tea!)
Do 1 grooming task a day however small
Do my bucket again: I used to always have a small bucket and have my skincare and nail care in there and do it when I am watching the telly. This was replaced by wine and chocolate in the past.

Things I am not going to do:

Beat myself up. I stopped being nice to myself.
Putting what I need to do to look after myself, last, after all the other chores and work I have to do.
Buy clothes. All the summer stuff is coming in, but I am not buying things 2 sizes up and then wasting it if I achieve my goals. I am, however, going to buy myself nice workout gear.
I am not totally broke, and I AM going to get a mani-pedi, rather than say it's too much money, I could do something else with it, usually clothes I don't wear.

@RadioactiveWear
“I used to always have a small bucket and have my skincare and nail care in there and do it when I am watching the telly.”

I really like this idea. I’ve got a bit slack with skincare in recent years, and spend my TV watching time doom scrolling on the side. This would be a much better way of doing things!

RadioactiveWear · 14/03/2023 09:11

I too doom scroll

OP posts:
Amdone123 · 14/03/2023 09:21

@RadioactiveWear , you're funny ! And also sounding very determined ! You can do it. Don't think too far ahead - maybe take it in 7lb 'hurdles', so you don't get too overwhelmed.
And yes, to no negative self talk. Speak to yourself how you would a friend.
I'm loving the bucket idea. I thought at first you meant KFC.
I try to do a couple of things everyday, too. I've got so many lotions n potions, but they're all over the place.
I'm off to find a bucket....

girlgonenorth · 14/03/2023 14:28

Its totally doable, I’m mid 50’s and lost 2 stone in six months in 2021, no WW or exercise apart from a bit of walking. I had no carbs for breakfast, not many carbs for lunch and for dinner only whole grain carbs or beans or potatoes, Lots and lots of veg and salad and eggs and fish. The weight came off a lb a week which was so encouraging and Ive pretty much stuck with the diet since as I like the food

SunshineGeorgie · 14/03/2023 18:33

I LOVE the bucket at the side of the sofa idea!!!

That's a great mothers day idea actually!!

Maybe a second one for snacks.....no, only joking 😆

Amdone123 · 25/03/2023 11:10

@RadioactiveWear , how's it going ?

bellac11 · 25/03/2023 11:13

Its 1lb a week which is realistic and not particularly fast but also not slow

And it is harder when its a bigger percentage of your starting weight. You're talking about losing nearly 20% of your weight, that is quite a lot

Hope its going well

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 25/03/2023 11:17

it is much easier to go from 13 stone to 11 stone than from 11 stone to 9 stone

AutisticLegoLover · 25/03/2023 14:41

Since September I've lost 25lb. I wasn't even trying they much to start with so I'm sure you can do it. I'm 46 and peri-menopausal.

RadioactiveWear · 25/03/2023 20:11

Hi there.

I haven't weighed myself yet, as I usually give it 2 weeks in, as I know from experience that I don't lose weight in the first week and don't want to feel demotivated.

However, from my original list:

100 workouts in 100 days (7 a week, double up on some days to achieve this) - I have so far done 7 workouts a week, hopefully going to achieve this.

Eat healthily and follow WW's - yes I have done this for nearly 2 weeks

No alcohol for 100 days - err No 😅

Drink more water (not tea!) - yes

Do 1 grooming task a day however small - I have been taking more care grooming wise

Do my bucket again: I used to always have a small bucket and have my skincare and nail care in there and do it when I am watching the telly. This was replaced by wine and chocolate in the past. - Yes I have done this

Hopefully, I have lost some weight. The main thing is that I have been doing 7 workouts a week of 45 mins each. My muscles are screaming out to me, but I am feeling good, and also my MH and mood has improved loads.

Thx for asking

I'm your age and I've lost almost 2.5 stone since January 1st, using the Blood Sugar/ FAST 800 diet. If you commit to it and keep active (10k steps a day, plus 3-4 exercise sessions a week, where you get your heart rate up, sort of thing), that should be a very doable target. Good luck!

Amdone123 · 26/03/2023 04:51

@RadioactiveWear , wow ! You're doing great.
Keep going !
