20lb loss in 6 weeks

mammabear0314 · 15/02/2023 11:33

Hi ladies. Can anyone advise me on how I can lose weight I'm such a short amount of time.

Long story short I have my hen holiday abroad with my ladies in 6 weeks and 3 days and I really want to get to my goal weight by then. Which is 20pounds lower than what I am now. Il be happy if I lose a stone (14lbs) but if I can lose a stone and a half il be BUZZING!

I know I need to make some serious changes but I'm wondering what any of you ladies may have done for a quick and high weight loss.

Thanks in advance.

Xxxxx

Unless you are hugely overweight its not very likely. You're asking to lose over 3lbs a week. Thats a deficit of 1500 cals a day.

Your intake would need to be around 500 cals in that case. Can you survive on 500 cals a day, every single day for 6 weeks?

Its likely to have you racing to mcdonalds or pizza hut within days

TaRaDeBumDeAy · 15/02/2023 11:41

Meal replacement diet.

Or you can create a deficit with exercise, but it'd take a lot.

bellac11 · 15/02/2023 11:44

People overestimate the calories they think they burn in exercise. Its often not very much.

Gagagardener · 15/02/2023 11:53

I imagine your current diet has got you to where you are. Can you face making HUGE changes to it, and being prepared to find the first week or so fairly rough? If you can, Zoe Harcombe's 'The Harcombe Diet' might work for you: claims are made of up to 15lb coming off in 5 days at the beginning of it. I did it a couple of years ago; it is all whole foods, no UPFs, no sugar. (No fruit : too high in sugars.) There are menus and recipes and the version of the book written for men includes a useful shopping list for a week's menus.

Very best wishes: I'm setting off on it again, slightly modified; and cutting out breakfast so that I eat nothing between supper and a cup of coffee with cream (neither including on tge Diet) next morning at 11am. So it'll be lunch at 1 and supper at 7. It's antisocial, but it is healthy.

Perhaps we'll hear from you again? Hope so.

Gagagardener · 15/02/2023 11:59

Ps: get the Harcombe book, read what she says about calories and exercise. All calories are not equal. You have to change the fuel you put into your body to give it a chance to burn off all the stuff it has stored as fat. Google her.

Pps Bacon and egg is a very good breakfast or lunch. Keeps me satisfied till it's eating time again. And a peeled raw carrot is a very satisfying snack: sweet and crisp and takes long enough to chew to make you feel you've had something!

Depends partly on your starting weight. I lost 19lbs in about 3 months last year and it was tough. That was reducing calories, logging every single thing I ate and drank, and going to gym classes between 3-5 days a week, as well as lots of walking. It involved basically cutting out squash for plain water, reducing sugary coffees down to 1 a day, no alcohol, rare takeaways, sensible choices when out for restaurant dinners, using some Fast800 recipes for dinners, reducing general portion sizes, as well as Intermittent Fasting.

It probably isn’t very healthy to lose 3lbs per week, but all you can do is try, starting right now, and see how you get on.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 15/02/2023 12:12

Give up sugar, swap your drinks to plain or sparkling water. 30 mins of exercise a day. You won't lose a stone but you will feel better and will lose some weight. Stay on it afterwards.

Shalh · 15/02/2023 12:14

Exante or another VLCD but be prepared for it to go back in after the holiday if you don't continue to implement changes

bellac11 · 15/02/2023 12:15

A huge proportion of the weight loss cited above is water though. It comes out of your liver, which is ok, its not a problem. But is not fat loss

SingaporeSlinky · 15/02/2023 12:29

@bellac11 are you referring to my loss? You think a huge proportion of my 19lbs was water? I can assure you, I didn’t have 19lbs worth of excess water in my body 😂 My scales showed me my body fat % and water % and it was the body fat that went down consistently. I was 10st 7 to start with, so not hugely overweight.

You dont need to be defensive about it. Its still 19lbs off joints and I didnt say the whole amount but when people lose weight quickly, at first it is predominantly water (unfortunately for me). There will be also muscle loss

If your body doesnt act like this then its highly unusual. Or your body fat scales are not accurate (they're not normally that accurate either)

And because this site is not easy to read posts, I realise now I wasnt even referring to your post because you lost it over 3months

I was referring to someone else who mentioned losing loads in 5 days. That will be water loss

Perhaps this site will one day invest in numbering of posts

ILiveInTornadoAlley · 15/02/2023 12:39

Also something that really helps me,I don't eat after 5pm.Plus I haven't had any soda/pop (I think y'all call it fizzy drinks),in 7 years so not having those empty calories are really helpful.
Good luck to you!

SingaporeSlinky · 15/02/2023 12:43

@bellac11 ”up to 15lbs in 5 days” - well yes of course that’s unlikely to be just fat loss. But even once I told you that 19lbs off a starting point of 10st 7 couldn’t possibly be water weight, you still tried to tell me my scales must be inaccurate.

Again no need to be defensive. I dont note or remember the names of posters, I thought you were the one talking about the 5 day loss. If you had lost 19lbs in 5 days it would be water believe me. You cant expect to just use someone's name in a post and then I remember what you said in a post way back. You should quote people properly.

I lost a stone once in a week at around 12 stone. It was mostly water. I was in hospital and mistakenly nil by mouth for a week. 14 pounds in a week was not fat loss.

SingaporeSlinky · 15/02/2023 14:00

@bellac11 who says I’m defensive? I did ask if you were referring to me. I explained my loss, but now you’re blaming your mistakes on mumsnet. The post you say you were actually referring to was only quoting a claim anyway, not their personal experience. If anyone needs to quote properly, it’s you.

My initial post on this thread was only post 8, so it’s not like you needed to read pages and pages to clarify. Hardly “way back”. You referred to “the weight loss cited above” so since I was the only poster by then to have actually claimed a loss, it wasn’t foolish to believe you were referring to me.

We’ve established and agreed that any loss in week 1 is mostly water weight. The Op’s question was how much she can lose in 6 weeks, and I gave my experience of 3 months. No need to keep going on about week 1.

Mincespi · 15/02/2023 17:37

I’ve just lost about a stone in a month on the fast 800 cal diet. I’m not overweight either.
I just wanted to get down to my goal weight quickly before an event instead of take my time like I’ve been doing. Tough but doable.

Gagagardener · 15/02/2023 17:43

@mammabear0314 if you're still on here: do try the Harcombe diet!

QuaverAndShakeWhenIHearYourName · 15/02/2023 17:56

It depends on how big you are.
I think you can lose this if you are size 18 and over and do an intensive 1 hour work out and eat about 800 cals a day everyday even on weekends with no cheating.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/02/2023 18:09

I've done 1 stone in 6 weeks.I very much doubt it's possible to do nearly double that in the same amount of time

mammabear0314 · 15/02/2023 20:52

@Gagagardener hi sorry had a long day at work. Will deffo read up on that for sure once the kiddies are in bed .. sounds great! How much did you lose on it last time you did it??
