As above, it's not budging!

Your bodies haven’t read the book but your minds have absorbed a lifetime’s worth of mainstream weight loss literature which is based on outdated science. If a 1200 calorie diet works for you in the long term without you losing the will somewhere along the line and regaining all of the weight that you have lost plus more then please ignore me.

Mummayaa · 22/01/2023 19:59

There’s a great thread on MN by people who follow the Why We Eat (Too Much) philosophy who are losing weight and not drastically cutting calories!

Sleepeazie · 22/01/2023 20:03

I’m 5 foot (porky at 11:7 😞 since covid 1) but really muscular. Walks 20,000 + steps a day (at an average rate of 4.8 mph) and do a physical job on top part time. I lose weight at a rate of2lbs a week on 1700 calories (James smith says I could do it on 1900). Although I’m overweight, I don’t look ‘fat’ I’m curvy and muscular with lean walking legs in a comfortable 12 petite. Seems I’m an anomaly 😂

literally impossible

Asterope · 22/01/2023 20:04

I think I probably am eating more than I think, I'm a bit lax at the weekends. Back to it tomorrow armed with all this amazing info. Thanks all

1500 calories is more than you need. I'm 5ft 1, did the Fast 800 diet and lost 2st in about 6 weeks.

Oh please, I eat healthily. What information is this book going to give me??

Quite possible.

You should read more research papers.

JoyPeaceHealth · 22/01/2023 20:08

I think there are people on this thread who don't believe how little food a 5'1 tall 52 year old with a sedentary life actually needs.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 22/01/2023 20:09

I cant lose unless I do 1300 a day maximum.Im 5ft 10

ok quote me a research paper that shows how you can lose weight while taking in more energy than your body needs, and I'll read it. I'm interested to see.

1500 calories is too much. For someone of your height and petite build that’s a maintenance amount. Try 1000 calories for a couple of weeks and see if it makes a difference. It’s not the amount of exercise, it’s the calories you’re putting in as opposed to the energy you’re expending.

Galadriel90 · 22/01/2023 20:12

Hi op! I'm taller than you at 5'5. My maintenance calories is around 1500 which keeps me just under 9 stone. To lose weight I need to drop to 1200. I fast until lunch and find this a totally adequate amount of food if I focus on protein.

Chihuahuasrule · 22/01/2023 20:13

What are you eating? Reduce your carb intake and up your protein and high quality fats

I really think it is this. Out of curiosity I tracked my calories for a month once and I averaged 1700 a day. I included every squash, tea, coffee, literally everything. I'm an inch taller than you but a size 6.

Lovelysausagedogscrumpy · 22/01/2023 20:19

Can I ask a question ? I’m disabled so very limited in the amount of exercise I can do because I’m confined to a wheelchair. I was very overweight about five years ago and went on a strict diet. Wasn’t interested in carbs or protein combinations or ‘points’ on weight watchers. I got a copy of ‘ The Greatest Guide to Calories’ and stuck rigidly to about 900-1000 calories a day. I lost 6 stone in a year and have never put the weight back on. You can put forward any theory you like about diet and exercise combinations but the simple fact is that if you eat more calories than you burn you will put weight on. If you eat less you will lose weight. It’s a simple fact of life that if you are dieting and not losing weight, you are eating too many calories.

I'd look at the NHS BMI calculator and calories required. You're in a healthy range so slow weight loss to be expected

10,000 steps a day is fantastic. The expectation for activity is 2500 and anything above that does count towards weight loss.

Over 12 weeks at 0.5 a week you'll get down a few pounds but you don't actually need to

Appreciate that! I work full time and have two small kids so chances for me time in terms of exercise are slim. The only other thing I can add in is reduce the calories more but I am trying and really appreciate your cheerleading. Thank you ⭐️

Be patience jus keep going, if the weight number is not coming down you still getting the health benefits

namechange1487 · 22/01/2023 20:27

Have a look at the calculator. Should help. I track calories on nutra check app and log my steps. It takes of 2500 as everyday activity and the rest is added to your calorie deficit.

I've watched this guy on youtube. Very interesting and totally believe that sugar is to be avoided. But sticking to an upper calorie limit doesn't mean that you're ignoring all the new information. I eat nuts, avocados, fish, sweet potatoes, eggs, broccoli, leeks, courgettes, olive oil, cheese, almond milk, soya yogurt, salads galore, the occasional glass of red wine. But the bottom line is that one can still eat too much. Calories is a way of measuring that even if the concept of calories in and calories out in itself is a dated one which doesn't account for the effect insulin spiking has on your hunger.

queenofthebongo · 22/01/2023 20:44

I am 5"5 and am on 1200 a day going to the gym with a pt twice a week. I don't eat till lunch, have a small salad or something and then eat a normal ish meal for dinner. I also walk 10,000 steps a day at least. Except at weekends!😂 I am losing weight quite well I think. You def need less calories! Sorry! X

queenofthebongo · 22/01/2023 20:46

I also use my fitness pal to log food. Sometimes I'll just have a soup at night if I fancy crisps/chocs and wine!😳
