As above, it's not budging!

I blame my stupid Apple Watch which says I'm burning over 2000 a day 😂

Counting calories on their own is a bit useless - download a free Macro tracker which also logs calories, protein, carbs and fat. The one I have you can scan the barcodes of packaging and it’s super easy. I’ve lost a stone since Christmas as I’ve been keeping my calories to about 1200, but really watching the fat and carbs in my diet and making sure I have high protein levels every day, so burning fat and not losing muscle. I’d also add that 10,000 steps a day for me would be a maintenance step count. To lose weight I‘ve been doing 12-14k steps per day plus circuit/weight training 3 times a week. Losing weight as you get older is much tougher! It used to fall off me when I was younger, but now 40+ it is such harder work! Good luck.

FlopFit · 22/01/2023 19:21

Steps do nothing for me. I feel like I could walk to the moon and still need to only eat 1200 cals to lose weight.

Add in some running of HIIT and it will probably start to happen.

Also ime it takes more than 2 weeks for my weight loss to kick in every time so don't give up yet!

Yeahrightthen · 22/01/2023 19:22

Have you done the tdee calculator op?

Im 5”8, 11 stone (want to get to 10) and have to cut to 1200-1300 per day plus brisk walking for an hour every day to lose between 1-2lbs a week. I’m 40! It’s hard!

I ate junk, drank like a fish and was a lazy slob in my 20’s yet was a size 8.

greenacrylicpaint · 22/01/2023 19:23

I'm 5.9 and maintain at 1700.
that includes daily 'moderate intensity' exercise and a couple of hours running a week.

try to add strength training.

Bringonsummer19 · 22/01/2023 19:23

you should be able to loose weight slowly at 1500, the issue will be that unless you are strictly weighing everything you are probably eating more than 1500.

MintyVinty · 22/01/2023 19:24

I'm on the same calories, same height, same age, and aim for the same steps. I lose if I'm really tight on tracking what I've eaten and drunk, and weigh everything by the gram or ml. But then I get bored and stop doing it 😕

SilverGlitterBaubles · 22/01/2023 19:25

Ditch the step count, calories and Apple Watch. 10,000 is what you need to be doing on a normal basis not what you need to lose weight. Also change your eating habits to low carb high protein and aim to do some more high intensity cardio exercise each day that gets your heart rate up.

PizzaPizza56 · 22/01/2023 19:26

I'm another shortie who has to drop to 1200 to lose weight. I also think it takes a good 12 weeks of being consistant to notice a difference

RandomMess · 22/01/2023 19:28

I'm 5' and my maintenance calories are 1400 a day 😭

disconnecteddrifter · 22/01/2023 19:29

I felt similar. Worked out my basic rate of calories which is 1500 to maintain my weight as minimum if I laid in bed all day. Didjt lose weight for a couple of weeks. Was tempted to go to 1200 cals but think that is a reason I put weight back on as mess up metabolism. So I kept going with 1500- 1700 a day and to my surprise last week I had lost 7lbs. So I think it was a week to break down fat and lose water? Anyway I have also lost an inch from my waist. I'm not going below 1500 as is what I need to function and i dont want to teain my body to live on 1200 cals. . I'll lose the weight slowly.

SingaporeSlinky · 22/01/2023 19:29

Afraid I agree with others, need to drop calories and probably increase exercise. 10,000 steps is kind of normal healthy minimum, not a target for weight loss. I’m same age as you, 2 inches taller and I only lost when having 1200 cals or less. When I plateau, I often have to dip down below 1000 for a few days to get it going again.

Asterope · 22/01/2023 19:30

What did we all do in a previous life to deserve this shortness 😂😂

3WildOnes · 22/01/2023 19:32

Are you sure you're not underestimating the calories you are eating? I think I eat a bit more than you, similar activity levels and my weight is always under 8 stone. I don't lose weight and I'm not trying to but I dont gain either.

TiredandLate · 22/01/2023 19:34

If it makes you feel better I'm 5ft 9 and 1500 is maintenance for me too. I have to go 1200 to see a steady drop.

WinterMermaid234 · 22/01/2023 18:57

Eating too much? Not being difficult I’m of a similar build and perimenopausal and the weight just doesn’t shift unless I’m closer to strict 1000-1200c plus weight training to build more muscle. It’s never linear more like 1lb off then nothing the next week, then 0.5lb it’s SO depressing!

Same, I am 5'1 and have not lost a gram for ten days. I lost about four pounds then it stalled so quickly.

. Eating 1200 per day, usually a bit less. Im52. But I didn't think it would stall so soon. I'm keeping going. Too soon to give up. Weight loss isn't linear. So here's hoping I'll see results next week 🤞

Mumsanetta · 22/01/2023 19:36

Oh Lord, please read Why We Eat (Too Much) before you drop to 1200 calories. What you eat is just as important as how much you eat - are you eating whole, clean foods and avoiding processed foods and wheat?

AdventFridgeOfShame · 22/01/2023 19:38

What are you eating?

We are not 100% efficient combustion engines. Some calories are so much more available than others.
Think almonds. Ground almonds are readily digestible, whole ones take a lot of chewing and some bits are still coming out the other end undigested.

DoorTable · 22/01/2023 19:41

Anorexics lose weight regardless if it's from chicken breast and 2 unsalted almonds a day or 2 ferrero rochers a day. It's down to not tracking and measuring your consumption accurately. It all adds up.
Quality of food is more about your health than weight loss.

DoorTable · 22/01/2023 19:42

You're eating more than 1500.

RandomMess · 22/01/2023 19:43

Not only am I ridiculously short but DH is 6'3" and he can literally eat double, so unfair Sad

Allmarbleslost · 22/01/2023 19:44

You're eating more calories than you think you are.

BethDuttonsTwin · 22/01/2023 19:44

Asterope · 22/01/2023 18:59

It's been 2 weeks

It usually takes me 2-3 weeks to get into deficit, definitely if on 1500, which is too much for me to lose weight on.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 22/01/2023 19:48

I'm roughly the same height and weight and I can't lose if I go higher than 1200.
And I easily get in double your daily steps

JoyPeaceHealth · 22/01/2023 19:49

You're assuming that our tally of 1200 is made up of icecream and white bed.

I have to do both things to lose weight. Eat healthy food but also must have a calorie limit. I chose food well and wasn't hungry. So eating more wasn't necessary. If id eaten more it would have been purely for enjoyment.

. In fact, I didnt lose weight this week so eating more wouldnt have resulted in success.

I have not read the book you mention but there are a million books.

Our bodies haven't read the book(s)
