What was the best thing about losing weight for you?

I’ve lost 3 stone with slimming world.
i joined in April, a month after having my daughter and I’ve finally lost some weight after years of finding it really difficult to lose anything.
i have 2 more stone to lose at least, I was 17 stone at my heaviest. I love the fact I can buy nicer clothes and feel more confident in them and I know longer feel really embarrassed about my size.
what was the best thing about losing weight for you?

Love reading this thread. I need to lose weight and this is inspiring.

AtSomePointInLife · 13/11/2022 22:26

Being able to go into any clothes shop and looking good in anything I tried on. Lost 3.5 st with WW

Windinmyhair · 13/11/2022 22:30

For those of you who finally did it, and have lost loads - how have you flipped the switch and made it happen? And what method did you use?

My thoughts too. I started off today well ( day one) and have already fallen off the wagon

I've lost nearly 10 stone. The biggest high for me is getting a new job the other day. When I was bigger I was always discarded from interview with nobody giving me a reason. Can't help thinking it was because I was fat!

mrsmacmc · 13/11/2022 23:29

Lost just over 3st and have maintained the loss for over 6 months.

Best thing has been stopping the medical gaslighting by HCP whose default response to any health issues was 'lose weight', spoiler alert, it hasn't helped! So forcing their hand to actually investigate and support!

Negatives
Glasses flying off my face when I sneezed while driving - quick trip to the opticians to get my frames tightened!

Feeling cold ALL THE TIME

Losing a shoe size

Having to 'people' as folk want to talk to me now / treat me differently which is hell for an introvert non peopling person like me GrinConfused

Huge congratulations to OP all the other posters.

The one pearl of wisdom that was shared by one of the ladies in my SW group was its all up here, indicating to her head and she followed that up with her own personal WL journey. ❤️

3 year later after loosing 2.5 stone I still get joyous about fitting and looking ok in clothes I like.

FlyingGoose · 14/11/2022 07:54

Lost 78lb this year. Size 20 to size 8-10. I have much more energy and no where near as tired. I can move about so much easier. It is a joy to but smaller clothes. They still don't look like they will fit though. My head hasn't caught up yet.

Froglady3 · 14/11/2022 08:01

My best thing was that I fitted into the world- wasn't hassled anymore when I was out in public. I always just wanted not to stand out, just fit in.
And it worked and felt so comfortable.

You have done so well and your mind/brain will catch up; it's a lot for it to process.
Good luck in the future.

I’ve gone from a size 18-20 to a 12-14 (I’m 5ft 8 though so I almost look slim at that size) and the main positives for me have been feeling like I can wear nice summer dresses without wanting to cover my legs up, feeling a lot less self conscious during sex, flatter stomach and less bloated due to not bingeing on junk, clearer skin as my diet has improved a lot and no more chafing when I walk

RosettaStormer · 14/11/2022 08:08

How did you all do it?

PacificFish · 14/11/2022 08:10

This is. Just the thread I need today.
about to start again today.
im 16st 10 and 5foot 4.
i feel like I’m almost at the point of no return re mobility. My body feels too heavy to lug around everywhere.
I want to feel light again.
thanks everyone.

AppleCrumbleRumble · 14/11/2022 08:14

Where to start?

  • Not sweating as much
  • Very light when I walk and move
  • Not worrying whether my arse will fit a ride or if the safety bar will close safely on my stomach
  • When sitting at the back of a car (3 seaters back) no awkwardness as to who will be in the middle or needs the front seat
  • I don't stand out for my size, when people (ok, men) look at me I don't feel self conscious of my size
  • I feel comfortable eating in public
  • I can talk about enjoying food and cooking without judgment
  • I like feeling my hip bones when I'm lying down and seeing my collar bones
  • My facial bone structure is pretty nice, I look more attractive, my jawline is sharper and eyes bigger
  • Men of slim and average build can (and have) pick(ed) me up and twirled me like a rag, I felt so feminine and girly
  • If something is standard size or one size fits all I don't worry that I wouldn't fit
  • I don't worry a chair would break and if it did it's because it's a rubbish chair on its way out not because of my weight
  • I feel more feminine, healthy and attractive. I like how small I look next to men.
  • I think I look younger for it
  • I can wear what I actually like rather than what is flattering
  • Water surrounds me fully when I'm in the bath
  • A standard towel wraps around me and covers me fully
  • I can sit in tight seating in a restaurant or cafe and not worry about how I'm going to get up or move between tables
  • My feet became narrower so I went 2 sizes down, this opened up the shoes I could wear
  • I'm more comfortable at the dentist and hairdressers
  • Much higher self confidence
  • Improved sex life
  • I have more options with men
  • I feel like other pretty girls. I don't feel like the ugly duckling. I still have MH issues and problems but they are not visible. I felt everyone knew I had a problem just from glancing at me and seeing my old size, I'm private and I didn't want my suffering so public.
boboshmobo · 14/11/2022 08:15

Wearing clothes I want to not have to !

BambooForDinnerAgain · 14/11/2022 08:16

I lost 15kg about 7 years ago, and it’s stayed off. I’d tried so many times before, and what made this one different was getting into the mindset that this was for life, and I would never allow myself to be fat again. And saying I DON’T eat something, rather than CAN’T eat it.
And I tried not to call it a diet, because diets seem like they have an end date.
I did it by cutting out sugar and processed food, basically the Mediterranean diet that everyone bangs on about. And the first three months was no cheese either. Or booze.
Back on the cheese and wine now, and feeling so great. Best thing about it? Too many to list. Go for it, OP, and don’t look back!

MrMrsJones · 14/11/2022 08:17

I've lost 7 stone in total, 5 since Feb this year.

Best thing is putting on a size 10 dress and feeling fabulous, I was wearing 20/22.

I feel so much healthier and at 51, I think I will have a better life this size than I was at 19 stone and struggling

TurtleTriplets · 14/11/2022 08:57

I lost 3 stone and the highlight for me has been realising I really enjoy exercising. It's so much fun and I am pretty fit!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 14/11/2022 09:29

Well done to everyone for the losses, you are an inspiration.

I'm a few weeks into a 7 or 8 stone losing process. I haven't weighed in recently but I'm down about a stone. I already feel very different; I'm moving more easily, I feel more energetic, and I don't feel bloated and disgusting. I'm getting used to feeling hungry, and actually rather enjoying it.

I can't imagine how amazing it must feel to be a healthy weight - judging by how I feel now, I half expect to be able to fly Grin

Worldgonecrazy · 14/11/2022 09:36

Asking the shop assistant ‘do you have this in a smaller size’ ..😀

StrictlyProfessional3 · 14/11/2022 10:13

Oh I love this thread and I so hope it carries on as I'd love to check it every day to spur me on. I'm on day 3 of calorie counting and actually doing really well, usually give up after a day 🙈 I feel different this time, have PCOS so losing weight will improve symptoms

I'm size 22/24 5ft 8 and weight 20st
My bmi is a whopping 42.6 but I am going to do it and can't wait to feel like all these posts describe

AppleCrumbleRumble · 14/11/2022 10:18

Well the good thing about having a higher bmi is that weight loss happens initially faster so you will keep reaping the benefits every single day that you eat well and less (and exercise) you will feel so much better for it. You probably know this @StrictlyProfessional3 but low carb, keto and paleo are amazing for hormonal balance and weight loss from personal experience they worked so well.

The first few days are always really challenging, sounds like you're doing great! Excited for you :)

StrictlyProfessional3 · 14/11/2022 10:38

Thank you so much 🥰 these stories are so inspiring.

I've lost 2lb in 2 days so yes it really does spur me on seeing quick results (I know it won't stay that fast)

I'm calorie counting but naturally coding lower carb

Stir fries with prawns are my go to at the Minute

Essexexile · 14/11/2022 10:56

Goodness, some of you have lost/are losing impressive amounts of weight, huge well done!
It makes my 8kg seems like nothing 😁 but I’m only 5 feet tall and a petite build so my 8kg is a lot and has made a massive difference to me and how I look and feel.

This thread definitely needs to keep goi g so that we can spur each other on and congratulate each other on our achievements
