Fall Fabulousness-a thread for a healthier lifestyle and feeling good about ourselves

FaultybutFabulous · 04/09/2022 22:18

It's Autumn (sort of) and the children are back to school this next week and the school run will once again provide me with some me time and exercise.
For me it's the start of treating myself much better, for non-scale victories and learning to love myself more.

I use my Fitbit and walk several miles a day on the school run and this is my main exercise. I've put weight on over the summer holidays from not doing that walk 5 days a week. I feel uncomfortable and unhappy with myself. Not just because of my weight but I feel lacking in energy and generally a bit blergh.

My plan for Autumn is fairly simple and I hope others will join me in celebrating how fabulous we really are and how we are not defined by the numbers on the scale or how tight or indeed loose our jeans are. We are more than that and need to appreciate ourselves far more.

My rough outline is:

A healthier breakfast eg porridge with a banana and syrup (because I'm a sugar fiend)

More homemade foods and less ultra processed foods except in emergencies

Taking off my make up at night and doing the old 3 step skin care routine. I don't wear much make up but I look less dead in the mornings if I remove it and my eyes are less puffy.

A weekly face mask

Looking after my feet by moisturising them with the industrial strength eczema cream I have. I clock up about 40 miles a week and my feet show it.

Making time for myself every night to read a couple of chapters of a book

Lights out no later than 11pm

Weekly tv night with my eldest and a movie with my youngest

Taking a multivitamin daily because I get less food cravings that way

Taking time each day to appreciate the positives

Using my gym ball daily to work on my core strength

Not obsess about calories or what I eat but learn to enjoy my food and not give it good or bad attributes. It's just food to give my body the nutrients it needs.

Practice the language I'm trying to learn daily

There's probably more but that's the general idea. The hope is that I will naturally lose some weight by doing this but that is not the main focus.

Would any one like to join me and share their autumn plan if you have one?

I'm still deciding. I'm really tired and can't be bothered cooking anything.
Double Gloucester on some baguette and some lentil chips. With strawberries and raspberries for dessert.

That sounds lovely!

I've managed 7.5k steps today and 6 portions of fruit and veg, so feeling quite pleased with myself. Early night tonight!

FaultybutFabulous · 16/09/2022 07:56

I missed out the fruit which was bad of me. I'll make up for it today. I've lost 3.5kg since starting my healthier approach but mainly it's probably the walking. I've walked 41 miles d so I far this week. Today wlll add another 10, tomorrow about 3, and Sunday 13. My face feels lovely and soft after all the moisturising. I've been doing a little Christmas shopping but I really need to get to grips with the house as it's a tip. The worst it's ever been 😫
Hope everyone has a good day. Don't forget to drink plenty of water.

Where is everyone?!
I am feeling pants today. Headache, sore throat and really tired. Period is awol. Peri menopause is such a delight! Period surprise every 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 2 months, whatever. Pain and PMT when it's officially due as well as when it deigns to arrive. It's a joy to behold. I've not even logged anything for today yet. I've been trying to get through the laundry mountain and change beds. I'm feeling a bit weepy too about the Queen and in general so I'm going to go and see my Ma. It's the anniversary of my grandma's death today. 22 years ago. Might need chocolate. Or gin 😁
Right, time to get my maudlin butt to the shops and to see Ma. Hope you are all having a successful day and are remembering to drink water and plenty of it.

feliznavidad2 · 18/09/2022 11:30

Sorry you were feeling rubbish @FaultybutFabulous 😩 did you hit the gin and/or chocolate? Wouldn't blame you in either case.

Period from hell here. Weight is static (hopefully due to that...) Having a 'restrained' Indian takeaway this eve, see; no starters, minimal poppadoms.

Wish me luck! 😬

FaultybutFabulous · 18/09/2022 11:37

@feliznavidad2 no, I didn't. I hauled my reluctant butt to the shops to buy things for an afternoon tea tomorrow and then went to see my mum and did some gardening for her. I felt much better just for being out and walking. We walked back in the dark which was nice. I hope you enjoy your Indian take away. I love the starters best. I'd have them instead of the curry and did when I was pregnant with dc2 and 3. Dinner was 6 popadoms and a bat of mango chutney.
66kg dead on today.

Hello,
I can be late to the party and jump on board with you all

FaultybutFabulous · 18/09/2022 12:01

@coffeetofunction welcome!

Today is the day!! I am going to start making changes.

Reduce my caffeine in take
Increase my steps
Plan my food
NO WINE!!

FaultybutFabulous · 19/09/2022 10:18

Today is going to be interesting food wise because we are having a little cream tea in honour of the Queen. I'm not sure how to work out how many calories are in a tiny slice of Victoria sponge 🤔 I usually overestimate to be on the safe side. The sandwiches are going to be bite size so nothing major, we also have mini scones. And tea, lots of lovely tea.

coffeetofunction · 19/09/2022 11:56

Sounds fabulous, enjoy

FaultybutFabulous · 19/09/2022 18:45

I have found today very emotional as I know many have. Our cream tea in honour of the Queen was quite lovely and the children helped put it all together which is unheard of usually. Unless they are just hungry 🤔 Ds and I made the Victoria sponge and Dd and I made the mini scones. The sandwiches were the size of an old 50p and delicious. Cucumber ones of course. I had a slither of cake, 3 mini scones, tea, and the equivalent of one normal sandwich. I've done no exercise at all. I'm steady at 66kg with a period that is awol yet still giving me pain and making me tearful. It's 9 days late now 🤷🏼‍♀️

How is everyone else?

riotlady · 19/09/2022 19:48

Your afternoon tea sounds lovely!

I confess we have not done anything royal today, we’ve been at the park all afternoon. DD made friends with a little boy there on Saturday and he was there again today, so she was thrilled! If we see him a third time I’m really going to have to suck up the courage to chat to his mum as I wasn’t brave enough today!

I managed 10k steps on Saturday, 9k yesterday and 6k today, which would have been unthinkable for me last year because of my fatigue so I am really pleased. Food has been ok but haven’t got in quite as much fruit and veg as I would like. Weight has stayed the same.

coffeetofunction · 20/09/2022 19:42

I've had a positive day today, 6 miles each way on a bike to and from work, 16k steps and no over eating. Only 3 coffees, some fruit tea and about 4 pints of water.

Those that use my fitness Pal do you include your veggies?

FaultybutFabulous · 22/09/2022 07:51

How is everyone doing? I need to get better at self care as I haven't been feeling great this week and have neglected it.

FaultybutFabulous · 22/09/2022 14:16

Forgive me lord for I have sinned. I have eaten a McDonald's meal. Veggie one and chose water. Day off today. It was lunch with Dd.

coffeetofunction · 23/09/2022 10:03

@faulty your forgiven 😉

I've had a couple of good days. I've been smashing out 15k plus steps, eating clean food and I've managed the gym twice including today. My sleep has improved as well, I'm still tired but over all i feel much better

feliznavidad2 · 23/09/2022 21:03

Also agree you're forgiven @FaultybutFabulous

Wow you're smashing it @coffeetofunction !

I'm doing ok, slow and steady wins the race, she says... 12 week old has been waking in the night a bit more so have been having to seriously fight the urge to reach for sugary treats mid pm when I get a bit worn out.

Anyone up to much exciting over the weekend? We're having a fairly quiet one, hopefully get a decent walk in

FaultybutFabulous · 24/09/2022 11:20

Happy weekend! I've been exhausted this week and had 2 days rest from calorie counting and weighing. Will brave the scales tomorrow. Today I will make soup and maybe a crumble and go for a good walk along the canal perhaps.

OP posts:
riotlady · 24/09/2022 17:34

I’ve been doing well with my walking but not so great food wise- went to Wetherspoons for lunch today and had a burger. Feeling a bit hectic and stressed so need to try and take some pampering time soon, maybe tomorrow night!

I used to love a bubble bath to relax but our new house has quite an uncomfortable bath so that’s off the table

FaultybutFabulous · 26/09/2022 07:47

65.95kg today and still no sign of my period that is now 16 days late. I feel less PMT-esque so I'm guessing this one is totally missed rather than late as such.
I had a busy week of medical appointments and today is my only free day. I plan to lie on the sofa and watch Midsomer Murders and drink tea for part of the day. A bit of me time while the washing washes. If we manage to leave early enough we will walk through the woods and along the canal to school. That's the long way.
Have a great day!

I have been off Mumsnet a bit. Started walking to work, which means I usually get at least 12k steps a day. Still eating porridge for breakfast and taking in my lunch for work. Still allowing myself bread and wine at the weekends, but think I might have to forego the bread as I literally want to add it to every meal 🙈Don't think I have lost any weight yet, but I do feel good after my walk to work each morning

buonnatale · 28/09/2022 08:18

Impressive step count @ColouringPencils and know what you mean about bread, it's my number one enemy. I love it though.

Feeling motivated here, have lost 3.3kg since 7-9-22 which I'm happy with as haven't been particularly hungry and still managed a one-off takeaway, a couple of glasses of wine a week and a pudding after Sunday roast. Now to stay in the zone...!

buonnatale · 29/09/2022 20:39

Sorry name change fail, it's feliz.

buonnatale · 01/10/2022 10:20

How's everyone doing?

illiterato · 01/10/2022 10:51

Hey. Still here. Had a dreadful cold this week- kept testing but it’s not covid. Haven’t felt up to much the last few days though. Doing Sober October but started early so 6 days done now. I live on my own ( only adult anyway) so I really just want to knock the lone drinking on the head- I’m one of those people who can’t remember when I was last drunk but has a glass of wine or two most evenings. Just became a habit and I can’t really afford the calories.

previous to the cold had got into a pretty good exercise regime and was really enjoying it- will get back on it on Monday. this weekend is crazy busy with kids stuff. I’ve found trying to carve out time in the weekends is more stress than it’s worth whereas in the week I have a lot of time as 2 school aged kids and I’m a student at the moment.
