Fall Fabulousness-a thread for a healthier lifestyle and feeling good about ourselves

It's Autumn (sort of) and the children are back to school this next week and the school run will once again provide me with some me time and exercise.
For me it's the start of treating myself much better, for non-scale victories and learning to love myself more.

I use my Fitbit and walk several miles a day on the school run and this is my main exercise. I've put weight on over the summer holidays from not doing that walk 5 days a week. I feel uncomfortable and unhappy with myself. Not just because of my weight but I feel lacking in energy and generally a bit blergh.

My plan for Autumn is fairly simple and I hope others will join me in celebrating how fabulous we really are and how we are not defined by the numbers on the scale or how tight or indeed loose our jeans are. We are more than that and need to appreciate ourselves far more.

My rough outline is:

A healthier breakfast eg porridge with a banana and syrup (because I'm a sugar fiend)

More homemade foods and less ultra processed foods except in emergencies

Taking off my make up at night and doing the old 3 step skin care routine. I don't wear much make up but I look less dead in the mornings if I remove it and my eyes are less puffy.

A weekly face mask

Looking after my feet by moisturising them with the industrial strength eczema cream I have. I clock up about 40 miles a week and my feet show it.

Making time for myself every night to read a couple of chapters of a book

Lights out no later than 11pm

Weekly tv night with my eldest and a movie with my youngest

Taking a multivitamin daily because I get less food cravings that way

Taking time each day to appreciate the positives

Using my gym ball daily to work on my core strength

Not obsess about calories or what I eat but learn to enjoy my food and not give it good or bad attributes. It's just food to give my body the nutrients it needs.

Practice the language I'm trying to learn daily

There's probably more but that's the general idea. The hope is that I will naturally lose some weight by doing this but that is not the main focus.

Would any one like to join me and share their autumn plan if you have one?

Great to hear everyone's progress today.

I am pleased with what I achieved. Nutrition: took my multi vits and iron. Went out for lunch but chose the salad selection which was full of fresh stuff and generous portions so I saved some for dinner.

Looked in the local vintage shops and got some new trousers and a colourful jacket for autumn. One of my goals is to enjoy dressing with more flair and expression so I intend to continue browsing second hand shops for this purpose.

Bought myself two novels - sometimes I struggle to focus so I chose two lighter stories that look uplifting.

Had conversations with two new acquaintances who I hope could become friends in the future. Another goal is to connect with people better as I have a tendency to be a loner when I am tired or stressed.

Am just about to moisturise hands and feet and get into pjs, aiming for an early night with one of my books.

Thanks everyone for an encouraging thread.

I've made it to bed for 10pm, moisturised face, hands and feet. Sprayed my pillow spray. Will read for a bit before going to sleep. Well done on a productive day, everyone!

FaultybutFabulous · 05/09/2022 23:43

A good start to the week 😃

Here's to another great day! Same breakfast as yesterday and more walking due today. Soup for dinner with either baguette or dumplings. Probably dumplings but I'll have less than I normally do.

Going well so far here, on 14k steps at the moment and about to go out again. Had porridge and banana for breakfast, leftovers for lunch, and a satsuma as a snack. Having a cup of tea now when I would rather break open the crisps (or wine!).

TheBurntCity · 06/09/2022 19:42

I'm feeling a bit under the weather but I gave my tired feet a little soak in some bubbles and put lots of heel cream on.
Not much else of note but some days are more accomplished that others!

FaultybutFabulous · 06/09/2022 22:49

I am knackered tonight. Much better food-wise and lots of walking. How are you all doing?

Snowed under with a work project, working over hours, no exercise, no food in the house, ate a chippy dinner.

Start again tomorrow!
You've had a stellar day OP 😁

FaultybutFabulous · 07/09/2022 07:25

@Hempy some days are just like that so don't worry about it. A chippy tea once in a while is not a bad thing.

I'm somehow 2kg down since Monday.. I'm happy but baffled at that.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I had a second breakfast today because I was so hungry. I'm calling it lunch though as I won't get chance to eat again until after the school run. I had toast instead of porridge so that might be why I was so hungry. Those school run hills use up quite a lot of energy though. What's for dinner tonight everyone?

SquirrelSoShiny · 07/09/2022 12:07

I love these threads and am hoping the stars might align enough for me to actually take action rather than just reading!

I started ok today - threw some frozen blueberries into my porridge. Am drinking my way through a bottle of water.

ColouringPencils · 07/09/2022 18:06

I was doing pretty well today, porridge for breakfast and leftover pasta for lunch. Came home from work and broke my no snack rule, but at least it was only celery, apple and oat cakes. Need to go and get some more steps in now before I make dinner.

Well done on losing 2kg in two days @FaultybutFabulous?! I can only dream. Kind of dreading next time I weigh myself.

illiterato · 07/09/2022 18:42

Game of 2 halves- 10k run this morning- feeling pretty smug. Forgot to bring kids their pack up for between school and rugby training and so had a maccas with them. 🤣

FaultybutFabulous · 07/09/2022 22:10

I'm hungry tonight but resisting because this is fasting time.
I've eaten more today but I've done more. My feet are slathered in thick eczema cream and covered in socks until it absorbs and I've removed my make up, exfoliated and moisturised. I'm going to read a chapter of my book then go to sleep. Today has been carb heavy. I envy you the McDonald's! I love the veggie deluxe and McFlurrys.

Well done everyone on your successes!

I had dinner out but ordered tofu, salads and kimchi which was surprisingly satisfying and delicious.

Have been reading more and staying off screens. Also got a lot of admin tasks completed I'd been putting off.

Quite chuffed I tried on a pair of jeans I bought last month which were a bit tight, and they're now pretty much perfect!

SquirrelSoShiny · 08/09/2022 07:47

Morning all.

Goals for today: blueberries in porridge, soup for lunch, 3 bottles of water. Also want to go a walk and remember to moisturise.

feliznavidad2 · 08/09/2022 07:51

Joining tentatively. New Mum second time around to a ten week old, been living on white bread and sugar since she was born. 😅

Previously have done well with 16/8 and Slimming World (years ago), keen to get back to it.

Need to lose 3 stone initially but possibly more to reach healthy BMI.

FaultybutFabulous · 08/09/2022 07:52

Morning everyone. Back to porridge this morning. Don't forget to drink plenty of water.

Another hungry morning and I've just had my lunch 🥴 oatcakes with butter and jam. I'm always hungry 90 minutes after breakfast no matter what I eat. It's those big hills. I've just lugged two very heavy shopping bags back from the shops filled with 2 tubs of Christmas chocolates, fabric softener, juice, 6 bottles of shampoo and conditioner, 8 pots of yogurt, and a bottle of bleach along with some frozen food. I really must get one of those shopping trolleys to save my poor back.
3.5 miles so far today. Had to go the most direct way to school because we were running late. I prefer to go along the canal and through the woods but no time today. I'll try to do it on the way to collect ds instead.

It was my birthday Monday this week. I want to have 365 days of being ME. That means:
Losing weight (2 stone to get rid of)
Not facebook stalking an ex friend just to be nosey. She doesn't give a shit about me so why am I interested in what she has been doing. The fall out was her doing. I'm not actually interested in her life but I still like to be nosey. But there's no point in doing this.
Exercise, exercise, exercise as much as I can. This will be swimming/walking/running. Aiming for at least 15k steps a day.
Improved eating. I've developed allergies to some foods. I can still eat these but they can leave me feeling poorly and like crap. I wont touch these foods.
Less drinking. I'm actually not interested in drinking (wine) any more.
Taking better care of myself - weight/image and generally caring about my appearance
A wardrobe revamp - hopefully this will come as I lose weight
Saying no to people. This week alone I have been asked to look after 2 friends dogs on different days, look after my neighbours child in the day. I work FT, run a house, have my own DC. No, no, no.
Be more selfish (linked to the favours above)
Do more stuff for me
Stress less (difficult one)
Try not to over-thinking everything & anything (I'm a people pleaser and worry about saying no to people/turning them down for invites out/going against the grain, so to speak)

365 of just being ME

FaultybutFabulous · 08/09/2022 21:10

Happy birthday @trottersunited!

It doesn't feel right to say much tonight with the Queen passing away but I hope you have all had a successful day. Catch up tomorrow.

Morning all. Yesterday was a very mixed picture. I definitely make a noble start to the day then gradually slide down into evening 😬

FaultybutFabulous · 09/09/2022 07:33

Morning all. A sense of sadness in our house this morning. Ds is 7 and a sensitive soul and he's sad about the Queen.

Porridge and banana for breakfast again today. I walked 10 miles yesterday and will do similar today I think.

Have a good day!

OP posts:
ColouringPencils · 09/09/2022 12:49

Sorry to hear your DS is sad @FaultybutFabulous. I imagine they will do something in school assemblies today. It's not the same but I remember my Nana dying when my DD was at a similar age and she was really upset. I think because the rest of us adults were aware she was very old, had had a long and good life and had outlived most of her friends, we weren't shocked at all and in a way quite relieved for her, whereas 7 year old DD had none of that insight.

In more pedestrian news, my steps have been terrible due to pouring rain over my lunch break the last 2 days. It is raining again today but I am going out regardless.

Great list @trottersunited!
