Anyone used the More Life weight loss program?

I’ve been referred by my GP but I’m already super skeptical. I can’t find ANY independent reviews of them online (not even on here!) and they seem to have flooded the Google algorithm so that when you search More Life Reviews all you get is pages of their own website and curated testimonies.

I also can’t find any information on how the program works, what it entails etc. All I know is that you do it in groups either face to face or online. Sounds like your average Fat Fighters club which is already making me doubt it’s for me.

Weird that they have managed to hide all non-approved information about them though.

I’m also skeptical because normally these programs assume you don’t know anything about nutrition and can be quite condescending. My negative attitude isn’t because I don’t want to lose weight but more that I don’t want to be spoken to like an idiot.

The woman who booked in my assessment over the phone didn’t speak great English and couldn’t tell me a single thing how this program works.

Anyone here got any history with More Life?

No involvement, just been reading and can't find much info. Doesn't seem to cover my area, but it appears free and associated with the NHS. Sounds quite a good setup.

tarziew · 13/08/2022 10:23

Yes it’s through my GP but I’m quite cautious that I can’t find ANY information as to what it’s all about, and nobody has posted any reviews about it (that I can find anyway). Very odd. I know it’s linked to Leeds University but that’s about it.

OP posts:
DuckWithOneWing · 13/08/2022 12:17

I tried it a few years ago, and it was just videos to watch online. The "group" bit was online forums that nobody uses. The content was standard stuff like "eat more vegetables!". I didn't find it useful at all

DuckWithOneWing · 13/08/2022 12:18

I didn't speak to anyone to book anything though, so they've obviously changed it a bit

tarziew · 13/08/2022 12:58

Ok so maybe that’s why I’m not finding much about it then. Everyone knows we need to eat more vegetables ffs and I’m not under any illusion WHY I’m overweight. I eat to comfort myself, I eat to celebrate, I eat when I’m lazy and can’t be bothered with healthy foods. I can’t imagine they are going to tell me anything I haven’t heard a million times over.

it’s a bit like that Noom I keep seeing. Lots of talk of psychology (I have a degree in psychology) but no actual explanation of how it works. Might be a commercial secrets thing but I get suspicious about so-called easy ways to lose weight. I have destroyed my metabolism over the years with fad diets and I can’t eat anything normal now like bread without gaining weight. Even brown sourdough is verboten.

i found an old medical report from my 20’s (I’m 48 now) and it said my BMI was 26 and I was classed as overweight. But looking at photos I definitely wasn’t. It breaks my heart that I’ve been told I’m overweight my whole adult life, even when I wasn’t. So now I’m BMI 36 I have very little faith in what doctors have to say. Even nutritionists are constantly changing their mind on what is good for us and bad for us.

I am so skeptical about this journey but I’ll give it a go as it’s free.

If it charged I wouldn't give it a second thought, but if it's free, there's not much to lose. I'd definately have an open mind and it's quite surprising what you can learn as there are lots of simple tricks people can overlook or forget about.

Hi, someone sent me this thread, I hope you don’t mind me jumping in. I’m Paul and the Managing Director of MoreLife. We are one of the NHS digital weight management providers as well as delivering other weight management services across the country. We are a company that is subsidiary of Leeds Beckett University, we were set up 20 years ago as a research unit at the university but have been focused on supporting more people now as a company. We remain tied to our university roots, I work there as a professor as well as running MoreLife, which we believe ensures that all our programmes are the best they can be.

We have many people using our programme, it is free and our research shows it work for many not for everyone. We do have a different approach as we are grounded in science, and we believe psychology and ‘how to’ is more important that what to do, all delivered through our digital platform and our dieticians.

What I can tell you is that we are a reputable business, maybe due to our scientific roots we might not be a strong on the marketing, so sorry we didn’t answer your questions and you needed to turn to Mumsnet, but I hope you’ll give us a try. Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact team members or come back to me.

Best of luck with you weight loss journey even if you don’t choose MoreLife.

tarziew · 20/08/2022 17:28

I don’t know what’s creepier, the fact that I can’t seem to find ANY independent reviews of More Life or the fact that posting an enquiry here has their MD ‘jumping in’. 👀

Still none the wiser on how it works though.

OP posts:
Morelifepg · 21/08/2022 09:11

Hi, apologies if that felt creepy.🤦‍♂️ that certainly wasn’t my intention. A friend of mine who says “she’s obsessed with mumsnet”, shared the link with me and thought I could help, so thats all I was trying to do. But i understand its a sensitive matter and can see how that felt. 😬

If you have a look on our website and contact us I'm sure team members will be able to help, we can answer any questions you might have to decide your next steps.

Good luck

Ros68 · 04/12/2022 20:59

Did you try More Life?, and if so what did you think, I’ve been offered this or Second Nature.

Moanranger · 18/12/2022 19:30

There seems to be a plethora of these adjunct health services being offered via the NHS. I got referred to a free app called Better Health, which is a basic food tracker with rudimentary advice on eating (eg, more veg, don’t snack, don’t go too long without eating, etc) I used it for a couple of weeks, but it’s food tracker was so bad ( very limited number of food items listed) I gave up & paid for Nutrachek which is much easier to use.
what really irritates me is that the marketing for these all say “contact your GP now for a referral” Well, GPS are run off their feet doing actual medicine, & hardly have the time to decide which of these umpty -ump services are available/appropriate/effective.
I looked at the More Life web site, it just looks like ppadvice videos, podcasts, etc that might give you some insight, but not much more.
I am no paragon, but the best advice seems to be to plan your eating & keep a food diary above all.

tarziew · 18/12/2022 23:50

I didn’t bother in the end. It sounded like it was pitched at people with minimal knowledge of food (they give one session on how to read nutritional labels). I hoped they would prescribe me Saxenda as only they as a third tier weight loss system can, (my GP can’t) but I’m not fat enough apparently.

Honestly sounded like a load of old rubbish.

Hi Paul, I wonder if maybe you can shed some light please? I went to my GP about trying Wegovy injections and he had referred me to More Life again. But on talking to the person who booked me in I was told “there are discussions about Wegovy but it’s not certain we are prescribing it yet”.

Will More Life prescribe it when it becomes available on the NHS?

@Morelifepg tagging as I forgot to for the previous comment.

Maybe he dereg'ed? He might have registered just to answer your thread because someone sent him your thread. Did you contact the team like he advised or have they not replied either?

AutisticLegoLover · 28/03/2023 20:50

I've found their website so far.

www.more-life.co.uk/

www.more-life.co.uk/what-we-do/our-services/licensed-weight-management-models/

As a former GP nurse it sounds good. Evidence based, uses NICE, looks at individual needs instead of a one size fits all. I'd be happy to refer my future patients to such a service once I return to practice.

I'd try contacting them through the link on their website.

Did you proceed with MoreLife? What did you think?

I’ve been re-referred and nine months later and there is STILL nothing out there online in terms of independent reviews which in this day and age is just plain weird. I wonder if they get any negative reviews taken down? Or you have to sign an NDA??

I want to see if they prescribe Wegovy because if they don’t then I won’t bother my arse going to a fat fighters club for nothing. My issue is my appetite, no amount of sitting around talking about nutritional labels is going to fix that. It’s like a depressed patient with a serotonin imbalance being given talking therapy, it ain’t gonna do shit.

The person who did my phone referral genuinely sounded a bit like they had learning difficulties and couldn’t answer any of my questions so I gave up in the end. I’d imagine the waiting list is massive now.

Thank you, yes I’ve already been referred to them but my issue is this.

  1. When you are referred the person doing to booking in has NO idea about how the programme works and can’t answer any questions whatsoever apart from ask you what day and time you want your sessions. That’s it. Nothing.
  2. Trying to find out anything about them that isn’t the vague ‘it’s science based’ fluff on their own website is nigh on impossible. I’ve scoured Twitter, Mumsnet, Facebook and Google searches to hear real life testimonials from people who’ve done the programme and there is NOTHING. It’s so weird.
  3. The person who booked me in didn’t know if Wegovy was definitely going to be offered other than ‘they’ve been discussing it at the top level of the company but no decision had been made.’
So I’m hoping reboosting this post might get me some information from someone.

🤷🏼‍♀️

I didn’t choose them. Went down the second nature route. Lost 6lb in 10 weeks. Basically turn your plate into 1/4’s. 1/4 protein, 1/4 carb (or less) 2/4 veg/salad. Concentrates on nutrition not calories, but basically no sugary stuff and you don’t need carbs unless you need fuel. Think healthy not prepackaged. Lots of recipes, articles posted but no interaction from program creators. Some useful stuff, 8 hours sleep, reduce stress by using meditation, some YouTube linked fitness videos. I found meal planning really useful but fitness logging only compatible with Apple Watch not fitbit. Promised more than delivered, Group stopped interacting after 3 weeks or so. Out of 39 around 3 have got to their first goal weight, 2/3rd lost some weight but 1/3 didn’t. Program also recommends habit joining, so whilst you do one thing, ie brush your teeth, this triggers you to do 10 squats or whatever. Some interesting info, mostly new habit setting but nothing spectacular as no feedback from a coach. Noom were better at this. I wouldn’t pay for second nature although their cookbooks are good.

tarziew · 29/03/2023 19:10

I’ve tried all kinds of diets and the only thing that ever works is Atkins but that’s not sustainable long term.

if they don’t prescribe Wegovy I don’t know where I’ll turn to.

@tarziew Hi, I just came across your post while also looking for more info on their program. I have been referred to them in November last year and managed to secure a spot in their 12weeks program starting in two weeks. I have to follow this program in order to be eligible for a referral for bariatric surgery - after my first session if I have information about what to expect during the 12 weeks program I will let you know.

Regarding the Wegovy injection according to their instagram page it looks like they are still figuring out

Anyone used the More Life weight loss program?
tarziew · 03/04/2023 17:50

@Euhg Thank you for this and good luck with your 12 week programme. If you find out anything about how this works I’d be grateful if you could share it here because it’s mysteriously absent from any Google searches, in particular reviews.

Best of luck!

Any updates on what the program contains? Got referred for it today but can’t find anything online

Euhg · 13/07/2023 23:56

Hi, I’m currently on the 12 weekly session with Morelife and here are the 12 sessions topic:

  • Welcome to MoreLife
  • How to Change Your Weight
  • Internal Values and External Influences
  • Physical Activity
  • What Food Does
  • Habits
  • Midway Review
  • Thoughts, Feelings, and Emotions
  • Emotional Eating
  • Sleep and Stress
  • Managing Social Situations
  • Wellbeing Review and Moving On

Personally I always been on different diets all my life and since starting Morelife I have changed my vision on loosing - with Morelife I’m getting tips to adopt a new lifestyle without restricting myself like I used to do in the past and that I never managed to stick to on the long term. Having weekly group sessions actually helped me make some changes and adopt a new routine. Being around other people that are in similar situations allows us to share some tips and motivate/support each other.

If you really want to loose wait and need some motivation and support this is a really good program.
