bonniej · 03/12/2004 09:35

I went up to 10st 11lb before starting this diet. That's the heaviest I've ever been. I've just got on scales and am 10st 8lb. Still very heavy for me but at least it's going in the right direction. TBH I've been ill over the last couple of days and haven't eaten HALF as much as usual so I was expecting a bit more of a drop but hey 3lbs isn't bad. Hope everyone else weighs in today. If you don't want to put weight, just put weight lost (or gained!). Good luck everyone and think of those lovely slinky Christmas dresses we'll all be able to wear

bottle · 03/12/2004 11:15

turquey · 03/12/2004 21:41

I seem to have put weight ON this week in spite of having not drunk any alcohol and cut out the gorging. I've even done exercise (and put my neck out ). I've also got a truly gigantic spot.
The only tiny consolation is that I think my jeans may be just marginally looser, and that's what's more important to me.
Well done the rest of you, and any tips on exercises for saddle bag thighs would be gratefully recieved.

bottle · 03/12/2004 21:53

Don't be discouraged Turquey. Just because you have cut out the crap, ate well and done exercise doesn't mean you will lose weight. It's all down to your metabolism too. Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) may mean that you are burning the same amount of calories as you are consuming therefore there will be no weight loss.

Muscle is heavier than fat !! So you may have actually gained weight because you have burned your body fat and turned it into lean muscle tissue. This takes some doing without eating the right amount of foods and it sounds like thats what has happened to you.

Most people don't have enough protein in their diets (diets meaning their normal eating habbit not any particular diet for weight loss) because the media have brain washed us into this "lo-carb" thing.

Protein is so important to your diet and is key to helping you improve your metabolism and helping burn more calories than you consume which will promote body fat turning into lean muscle tissue and in turn will give you inch loss and then once your RMR has stabilised you will begin to lose weight as well. You can add protein powder in to your food when cooking but you must be sure it is a good quality and doesn't contain any animal protein (which may include some fat too) or any added chemicals or pharmaceuticals. Whey and Soy are IMO the best as they are naturally derrived from plants and are easily absorbed by your body. You need to work out how much protein you need a day and then start using it to get any real weight or inch loss, have a look at \link{http://besthealthproducts.co.uk\this} you can get protein powder here.

As a Guide the average woman would need 50g of protein per day and the average man would need 100g . That's about a heaped tablespoon for women and two for men of protein powder to supplement what you are already getting or not from your diets. A good source of protein to snack on is Chicken or Turkey. When I'm out and feel a bit snacky I go to a supermarket and buy a £2 pack of carved chicken or turkey breast and eat that instead of other options. It may seem bland but compared to a big mac I know what I'd prefer.

A great book that explains this in more detail is "The L.A. Shape Diet" by Dr. Heber. It makes sense to me and I've lost over 38lbs in just 10 months (11st 5 to 8st 7) and gone from a size 14 down to a 10. I haven't been this size for nearly 15 years.

bottle · 10/12/2004 08:00

hello everyone, despite the glitches managed to loose 2 pounds this week so really pleased, how are the rest of you?

OP posts:
Donbean · 10/12/2004 15:06

A pound! am quite pleased, its going in the right direction. Im completely focussed and determined. Sick of bieng the "little fat one".
......Until next week.....

bonniej · 10/12/2004 16:41

I've stayed the same Sad still 10 stone bloody 8. It won't budge and I've been good (ish). What's the point? This thread does mean lose a stone by next Christmas doesn't it? I might be in with a chance then.

Might I just add, Donbean is not the little fat one. Met her on Thursday and she looks great (as well as being a lovely person!)

Good luck for next week everyone Smile

Hello, can I join this althread? I weighed myself last night and am 11 stone 7lb (three months after having ds). I was just over 9 stone pre-preg - VERY pissed off.
Been good today - have eaten healthily and a no-carb supper. How often are you weiging yourselves? Dinny

bonniej · 10/12/2004 20:49

Hi Dinny and welcome! We have a weigh in every Friday. It's going to get increasingly hard with Christmas just around the corner. I had a tip from a friend that every time you feel like nibbling, clean your teeth. Everything tastes horrible when you've just done that. I'm going to see if it works. Any one else got any useful tips?

dinny · 10/12/2004 21:00

thanks, Bonniej. how long do any of you reckon two stone will take?? haven't really dieted before it all just disappeared with dd but my blubber from ds is proving more stubborn!

bonniej · 10/12/2004 21:07

It's really hard isn't it? Its horrible having to really watch what you eat when you didn't before. They say you should lose about 2lb per week to keep it off, any quicker than that and it will all go back on. I think our stone before christmas was a tad optimistic Smile I recently had my sister and four children staying for a month before they emigrated. I ate more than usual but lost nearly a stone in the month they were here. It was because I was doing things all day and didn't really sit down. That makes me think it's more down to exercise than what you eat. (put it all back on when they went though)

dinny · 10/12/2004 21:10

argh - reckon about four months at leastb then for two stone???!!! I'm too impatient!

bonniej · 10/12/2004 21:11

or you could do it my way and have loads of family stay for a month Wink take you half the time then

dinny · 10/12/2004 21:16

am breastfeeding ds soooo much I can't believe am still so fat! though I have lost tons of weight since he was born - really piled it on this preg.

maybe I'll hire a family to come and stay - mine too small..

mayfieldgurl · 11/12/2004 09:58

dinny, don't be too hard on ya'self.

Don't look at other women or indeed the media for your measuring stick - you'll drive yourself nuts otherwise. Instead, look at what you have done. Unfortunately, it's part of our culture in this country (probably due to the influence of religion over the centuries) that we focus on the negatives - like what we haven't done, what haven't got, what we can't afford and the grass is always greener on the otherside of the fence but what nobody realises is that once you get on the other otherside there's always another fence with greener grass too !!

In our school systems, in the workplace, in our families and especially in the media we are not rewarded for what we do do even if it's not what we set out to do. So what if you can't run a marathon - you can run half of it , so well done !!!!

If our efforts and attempts to achieve things, whatever they are, keep getting knocked either by ourselves (which is indirectly in anticipation on others behalf) , by others or by the media we will eventually stop trying, accept our lot and give up. Personally that's not for me.

I say well done for all the weight you and everybody on this thread has lost whether it be 3 st and 3 to go or 2 lb and a stone to go. Congratulate yourselfs on what you can do don't beat yourselfs up over what you can't otherwise eventually you'll stop trying.

Try being more realistic with your goals, instead of saying "I need to lose 3 st by the summer" try aiming for 2 or 3 lb a fortnight - this is more realistic. Then when you've done that for 2 or 3 fortnights in a row you'll be in the right frame of mind and will be ready to up your goal by another lb or 2. Before you know it you'll be doing 2 or 3 lb a week which in 13 weeks is between 2 and 3 stone.

I lost a stone and a half in 7 weeks last October and by Easter had gone from 11st 9lb to 8st 11 (that's a size 14 to a 10 up top and an 8 on the bottom half) and now I'm pretty stable at 8st 8lb. As a 35yr old mum to my ds who is 18 months now (and a right Orangatang) I'm in better shape now than I was 17 yrs ago and even in my 20's.

Donbean · 11/12/2004 10:15

Ok girls, we are on our way, just keep it up. It doesnt matter if we dont get a stone off by Christmas, im happy with my 1~2 pounds a week. Its not 1~2 pounds ON thats what im grateful for.
Good advice from MFG. With ecouragement, logical reasoning and support from folk like her, we cant fail.
Lets stick together and do our best.

bottle · 11/12/2004 12:47

the stone by xmas thing is my fault, but it has kept me motivated ish, me finding it hard to went out last night and just ate a small amount of normal food and know that will throw things out - eat so little these days feel sad that i have to eat so little just not to put on weight let alone loose any, anyway still determined

OP posts:
dinny · 11/12/2004 20:16

Thanks, MFG - wise words. I feel so disheartened before I've even begun Sad 9 stone seems such a long way away and I know I'll get put off even ikf I lose 3lb in one week cos am still so heavy. Know what I mean? I've been such a skinny person throughout my adult life and find it really depressing looking so big. MFG, how did you lose weight? What would you have eaten in a typical day? Dinny x
