Losing chub rub.

Looking4sumthing · 03/07/2022 09:29

Hi, I have a problem with my feet so I'm not exercising much at the moment so this is more of a chat for the future.

Is there any way to stop my thighs rubbing together at the top? 15 years ago I was a size 8, & went on holiday & by the end of it I was really sore at the top of my thighs. So much so that when I put my tights on for the journey home, my bleeding thighs stuck to them.

So I suppose I've always been bigger on the thigh area & my question is, is this just it? I won't ever be able to wear a dress in a hot country unless I do some kind of chub rub intervention (cream/shorts etc) underneath.

Unfortunately I've always been very sweaty too.

I'm a size 14/16 now & the chub rub goes to about half way down my thighs.

I often see women running in tiny shorts & the tops of their thighs are rubbing but they seem fine so what am I missing? Is it the rub that hurts or is it the sweat & some women don't sweat?

(Sorry if this is a stupid question btw)

A problem with your foot shouldn’t stop you exercising.

swimming? Weights? Static bike? Toning exercises

that will help with your thigh rub

Thank you, it's not just a small problem with A foot but I didn't want to get into that.

Years ago I was much slimmer, more active by about 90%, barely wobbled & still had bleeding thighs.

I am being brutal

you can exercise

and that is what will help with your thigh rub. Along with losing weight through diet.

I think it'll have to be shorts under your skirts. Unless and until you lose weight, there's going to be chub rub. Either that or lots of cream but that might get messy.

@Ohthatsexciting oh piss off - OP is much more knowledgeable than you about her injury. Perhaps she has an open wound, or no time or no money to swim or buy a static bike or go to a gym.

@Looking4sumthing I have chub rub shorts from Snag. snagtights.com/pages/chub-rub-shorts?gclid=CjwKCAjw_ISWBhBkEiwAdqxb9m6kynt83mOTA6KlxEtQhHVbhNNo4en04cC-fs5LCUBb5-fMXE0LJxoCEqoQAvD_BwE

I've also heard about lots of chub rub sticks, but I haven't tried any. I prefer the shorts tbh.

That fact that you had chub rub at a size 8 would suggest it's to do with your hip position rather than your weight

Sweat does make it a lot worse so something like a solid antiperspirant might help -but don't put it on already chaffed skin or it will sting like hell!

Thank you everybody. Yes I do shorts now.

So do you all think that when I was a size 8, 15 years ago I still could of done with losing weight, & being smaller than that is the only way to stop the rub? (Genuine question)

Ohthatsexiting I said 'I'm not exercising much at the moment'.
I never said 'I never moved my body at all, but why am I fat? Did I.

I'm going through some medical stuff right now that hopefully won't last forever.

You can definitely reduce the rub by losing weight (overall, no targeted exercises, just reduce overall body fat) but sadly thigh gap isn't just determined by that, but also your hip width. It's genetic.

You can't spot drop fat from anywhere so it would mean a huge overhaul of your diet and a sensible exercise routine.

I'd stick with the shorts.

@Looking4sumthing please don't get to a side 8, see you still have thigh rub, and think that means you need to lose more.
This way disorders lie...

Im not sure- I’m a size 12-14 and don’t have chub rub. I think they rubbed more when I was larger (size 18) but even then I don’t remember sores or bleeding or anything! Yes my thighs do touch each other when I walk but I don’t know how many ladies get so sore there and I don’t!

MKCH Thank you, that's true. I doubt I will ever be an 8 again anyway! I would be happy at a 12 with a lot less wobble!

I see it's not as short as being 'fat' or 'thin'.

Silverswirl I'm envious of you then! I think it might be the sweat tbh. I'm often wiping my face, really suffering in some situation & another woman will say 'Oh it's getting a bit warm isn't it' & she's completely dry on the face!

I did briefly have a Google but it seemed to be more building muscle on the thigh area which would stop the wobble so might help?

I follow Jess Millichamp on Instagram snd she posts a lot about a roll on product by ivy verdure. I've not tried it, but something like that might ease the irritation on your skin.

Also I think you can be any size and possibly have rub/irritated skin, so not necessarily something you can work off.

It's not just to do with your thighs, but also how wide your hips are. Some people due to more narrow hips and the way they are built will always have thighs that touch at the top so yes shorts are your best bet.

OP looks like the poster who told you to move more whilst injured also didn't read your original comment very well where it clearly states that even as a size 8 you struggled with your thighs rubbish together 🙄 I'm a weight lifter, I have big things, I wear shorts under my dresses, just super thin ones especially in the heat, and Lanacane gel is great. It's a medicated lubricant gel that you can buy in Boots.

I wear cycling shorts under dresses. I find sudocrem heals it up pretty quickly

USaYwHatNow haha, made me laughGrin
What shorts do you wear?
Snag ones are great but do make me hot.

Yes, I didn't want this post to turn into one of those threads where people come back & ask if I've lost any weight yet, in a week, hence putting the note about I'm not asking for now but more in the future.

I had honestly not thought about it being to do with how wide of hip I am so thank you for that.

I hear you. At 8 stone my thighs rub together. At 9 stone (BMI 23, sub 2hr half marathon) my thighs STILL rub and I run in 3/4 length legs. Always.
Focussed strength training on your inner thighs may tighten them up. I have to say,I've given up and accepted that fat thighs is part of me - but they're string enough for me to run up hills!

It is largely to do with hip position and not so much weight - I use roll on deodorant in between thighs when wearing skirts etc and find that helps to prevent a lot of the rubbing. Not completely sorted, but stops rubbing enough to make it a lot, lot less sore!

If I am wearing a skirt/dress, then I wear the Snag shorts - I don't find them too hot, though.

To run in shorts, I use Bodyglide which is amazing - rub it on and it stops sticking. I also use it for sandals that rub, it stops that as well.

I am never, ever going to have thighs that don't rub at the top - it's just the shape of my legs. I exercise loads and they're quite muscly, but they basically look like hams. It's not a "oh you're overweight so you deserve the pain" thing...

Sloggi cotton long leg underwear are the best solution

if you had the problem when you were a size 8, I don’t think you can exercise your way out of it.

agree, the Snag ones are basically just cut off tights and far too hot
