Name change as I don't want this associated with previous posts, been around enough to know about beakers, the perils of overnight outdoor laundry and the like!
Not going into the outing and irrelevant details beyond that next June I will have to share a room with physically and emotionally abusive ex from 10 years ago when I attend a good friends wedding. We'll both be going - there's no way around it, neither one of us will be able to not without being conspicuous by absence. So, I have 12 months to lose the weight I've put on during the relationship with him and since we split (about 10 stone, and yes I recognise this is unlikely achievable but if I aim high and only hit 50-75% I'll still be happy!). I also need to move away from my frumpiness and so if anyone would like to join me please do feel free! Main plan is calorie counting, increased exercise, stress management and sleep. Also planning a six week alcohol free boost to get me started. Today's weight: 325lbs.
P.s in anticipation of the usual MN concern, I will be going with DP of four years who knows everything, is extremely supportive and won't tolerate any crap, I'm doing this for me not him!

Share a room to sleep?

WakeUpandSmelltheKetchup · 26/05/2022 16:20

Excellent to have a focus - go you!

LittleAvocet · 26/05/2022 16:24

Fair play to you, I honestly couldn't put myself in that situation it sounds really hard. Can your good friends whose wedding it is not arrange accommodation differently? For weight loss and self care I find it helpful to remind myself that my body is lovely and valuable as it is and I need to maintain it and look after myself. So if I had the absolutely perfect figure and life and I needed a healthy lunch I would choose a lovely salad with protein not crisps and so that's what I deserve now too.

minipie · 26/05/2022 16:28

I’m assuming you mean be in the same room as, not share a bedroom!!

Good luck OP

TheVolturi · 26/05/2022 16:35

Running has taken my body from a bit flabby with no tone and slightly overweight, to smooth strong and toned, my legs in particular are the best they've ever been. I do run every other day but never more than 5k. Couch to 5k is a really good place to start.

NwNmOldFace · 26/05/2022 16:44

Okay so I've not been around long enough to know how clear I need to be lol, yes definitely not sharing sleeping quarters but with the day as it is currently planned we will be stuck together in various rooms for the wedding from around 9/9.30am until whatever time the evening do finishes (in our group usually around 2/3am, which is able to be accommodated by the evening venue). Thanks for the support all and I will definitely look into C25K, hadn't even thought about that tbh! It would have been hard even up to a couple of years ago but I've worked hard on myself mentally and emotionally, the physical side has taken the longest to acknowledge really but it's been a good way to nudge me towards taking those last steps. DP is fab and I know will support me fully as well which makes a huge difference.

LittleAvocet · 26/05/2022 16:50

I'm so glad I misinderstood! Being at a wedding together with your DP there with you and your ex going too will be lots easier than sharing a room with your ex and DP! Best of luck with your healthy plan. You have enough time to make a real difference to how you look and feel.

Ultimatebetrayal · 26/05/2022 16:50

A couple of my friends are having amazing results with the latest injections that have come out. They basically stop you wanting to eat.
They are licensed by the nhs but you can also get them privately.

NwNmOldFace · 26/05/2022 18:16

@LittleAvocet yes it definitely will! Thanks again for the encouragement all and the tips. At this point I want to avoid the medical route as much as I can, I know that I eat too much and don't move enough so unless I change that any changes won't last beyond the wedding which isn't what I want.

OP posts:
Dashel · 27/05/2022 10:24

I thought for a moment you were sharing a room too 🤦‍♀️

Have you got a step tracker? I find keeping my steps high 10 to 15k really helps to loose the weight. Posting often on here really helps me and planning my food and exercise for the week helps as well.

MumNBass · 27/05/2022 10:39

Plan plan plan.... Think ahead and plan your meals for the week. Keep an eye on portion size- eat fish, chicken, eggs and lots of veg. Weight loss is more about diet than exercise. Exercise is brilliant for health and well being though.
Lots of people log their food on apps such as My Fitness Pal to keep an accurate record and to give them some motivation and accountability.
Good luck. Be positive. Keep at it. If you falter, keep at it!

NwNmOldFace · 27/05/2022 10:51

Yes I dusted out my old FitBit and set that up last night :) have also got MFP so can track properly rather than guesstimate (badly!). Had a lovely early night last night too, slept like a baby after a nice warm shower and do feel better this morning.

I think that mindset is brilliant. Well done.

OP it's a marathon not a sprint, small changes that you can build on are key. Meal planning (especially batch cooking, so you can freeze dinners & not be tempted by takeaway) is really helpful.

The other thing which made a surprising difference to me and DH when we decided to lose loads of weight - we binned our old dinner plates and bought smaller ones.

And eat one portion at a time. If you fancy some more afterwards fine, but wait 20 minutes and then see if you still want to get more food.

FannyFifer · 27/05/2022 11:14

I lost 7 1/2 stone in around 11 months a few years ago so u can def get a lot of weight off.
Do it for you and your health though not an abusive ex.
I did Exante, not for everyone though, then I began properly exercising when I had lost around 3-4 stone.
Good luck, I've changed my life for the better. Xx

Go you! Agree with what everyone above says, all I would add is to make sure (as best you can) you get enough sleep each night.
For me, lack of decent sleep is the biggest saboteur of my diet - it makes me crave things that aren't quite so good for me, and I'm too tired not to ignore the cravings.
But you've certainly got the mindset and I think that's MORE than half the battle!!
Let us know how you get on.

coconuthead · 27/05/2022 13:28

Ozempic or gastric sleeve.

I had a sleeve and it has been life changing, it's very expensive though!

coconuthead · 27/05/2022 13:29

Or VLCD like exante can work but you need willpower!

NwNmOldFace · 27/05/2022 14:45

Well, so far so good I'm still on track with what I'd planned to eat today. Swapped the car for the trainers to collect DC from school (currently waiting to get in as massively overestimated how long it'd take!). Dog looks a bit worried though, since I mentioned her joining me on C25K am sure she's practicing a limp 🤣

Well another successful day in the bag, although the weather could've been better for the walk I'm well within calories and have treated self to a couple of different high protein desert options to satisfy the sweet urge

TwinklingFairyLights · 30/05/2022 21:07

Hi @NwNmOldFace

I need to shift a stone in 8 weeks. I'm also planning a no booze June. I'm thinking of skipping breakfast every day. So not eating from 9:30pm to 1 pm the next day. That works for me because I can have lunch at 1, dinner at 6 then hit the gym or pool or exercise class and have a snack when I get back at 9.

Would like to join for the support / offer support if that's ok?

@Ultimatebetrayal

Is it Saxenda?

Well done for staying on the track!!! I keep saying to myself every spring, that i will exercise and eat healthier in the bid to have my best ever summer bod 🙈 I'm not really overweight but definitely could do with toning up and eating healthier, ESPECIALLY on late evenings. Just can't find the motivation

NwNmOldFace · 31/05/2022 06:43

@Winter2019 I had the same issue with motivation, until you find it there's little point tbh (sorry that might be unpopular but after 25 years of battling my weight I'd like to feel qualified to say!). You have to find what motivation works for you to stick with it and consider it a true lifestyle change rather than a diet, because frankly the diets don't work (if they did I'd be sharing Victoria Beckham's wardrobe 🤣).
@TwinklingFairyLights you're more than welcome to join for a bit of support welcome aboard! I'm preparing for the Jubilee weekend to be a bit of a haze of food, drink etc... so have stocked up on fruit for juicing, sparkling water, some high protein cake mixes from Bulk (this isn't a recommendation as I haven't tried them yet!) so we can still enjoy the celebrations as a family without feeling deprived.
