see I thought you had been here longer than me ... we must have turned up at around the same time!

colditz · 13/01/2008 15:30

Mumsnet makes me feel like I am at school at the moment, feeling weird because my own view is not ... popular with the majority.

I had a discussion about this with two of my friends, and we came to the conclusion that stupid people do not recognise intelligence, they write it off as weird.

WigWamBam · 13/01/2008 15:30

There you go ... definitely a good time to have been around then

I agree about stupid people not recognising intelligence. It's because they don't recognise that they are stupid, so when they come across intelligent debate it's alien to them.

I know what you mean. I find very little substance in mn nowadays. Nothing to get my teeth into. Nothing you can say without causing offense!

I'm still addicted, let's be honest, I won't be deleting it from my favourites any time soon but I find my serious - pissing about ratio has gone from 50/50 to 5/95 iyswim!

I love having a natter and a laugh, but I also used to love talking, challenging folks and being challenged. I can't remember the last thing I argued my pov on. I miss that.

Unless.....I'm one of the stupid people you have in mind, in which case this is going to be awkward!

colditz · 13/01/2008 16:16

PMSL @Hecate.

hecate you are a favourite poster.

Ooooh are we a quiche now?

Hecate · 13/01/2008 16:21

A low fat one.

Kewcumber · 14/01/2008 11:36

Obviously you all seem stupid compared to me as I am very intelligent and witty and (insert adjective of your own choice)... I'm being ironic, of course. How do you explain ironic to poeple online? Have come a cropper with that ionce or twice - thikn my humour is not well suited to the internet...

On the subject of carbs on which I am an expert - it is true that fast release carbs are addictive in a sense, they result in a rush of insulin which tends to make you crave more carbs. However medium or slow release carbs aren't too bad - wholegrain/seed breads, pasta isn't too bad (uses hard wheat which releases slower) but you could try brown pasta which is better. If you're going to have rice try Basmati which is the only slow release rice around. Jacket potatoes with skins or new boiled potatoes are OK.

I am a carb addict but I find that I can have enormous quantities of carbs provided that they aren't the fast release sugary or refined sort and still lose weight provided that I keep the fat content very low and the protein content reasonable. Eg huge bowl of pasta with tomato sauce and a light sprinkling of cheese.

TigerFeet · 14/01/2008 14:00

clicked on the donut link to find nothing but crumbs

That'll learn me to disappear into RL for a couple of days

pmsl @ low fat quiche . I found MN when dd was tiny - that would make it about 3.5 years ago too [scared]

I do think it has got too big now, as you say too many YummyMummyHun123s and people getting the hump too easily. To my very great sadness I've never really got too involved in debate as I generally don't get more than 10 minutes at a time to pop on here so I just post on the odd thread here and there. Sometimes I really do feel that I don't really contribute much to the wit and wisdom of MN but then a lot of the time I don't feel particularly witty or wise so I guess I'll just have to stick to poking my nose in occasionally! There is still humour to be found, but one has to look harder for it amidst the dross. I have found that hiding the for sale board has helped somewhat though .

Oh and I am a carb addict too... Slimming world worked really well for be because I could eat as much pasta etc as I liked and still lose weight. I'm doing ww this time though as I really do need to learn portion control .

Dottydot · 14/01/2008 15:27

I think I've been around for going on 6 years now...

I'm working silly hours again and not sleeping - was working between 2am and 5am today and am here at the office until midnight today (having started at 8.30am). Sigh. I think this is why I'm on Prozac..!

Tell you what, it's an amazing appetite suppressant..! Either that, or it's making me stop binge eating so much. I've also stopped doing my other anxious-type things, like picking my fingers and manically cleaning (she says, sounding like a right nutter...).

Might declare my weight next week - I weighed myself a few days ago and have lost 4lbs in the last couple of weeks, but am not sure if it'll carry on.

Kewcumber · 14/01/2008 16:18

april 2006 is the earliest post from me I can find (and I didn't lurk for long! ) - thats not long is it?! I thought I had been around MUCH longer than that.

JackieNo · 14/01/2008 18:02

I still have my 'welcome to Mumsnet' email and it's dated 9 Sept 2005. But I'd been lurking for a few months, loving reading things, but too intimidated to post. That wore off, didn't it.

Kewcumber · 14/01/2008 20:36

only Sept 2005 jackie - thought you had been here for 10 years at least

MightyMoosh · 14/01/2008 21:01

I always feel a little retricent offering opinions, or contributing much here, for two reasons-1 I get told off a lot, and 2 Im not a mum so feel a bit wary offering advice/opinions. Always feel a bit of a fraud- all I can offer is my years caring for others children (must be in the hundrends!)

MightyMoosh · 14/01/2008 21:05

JackieNo · 15/01/2008 08:16

Don't worry, MightyMoosh - I think as long as you're polite, don't use text speak, and follow the mumsnet philosophy stuff, I'd just go for it. TBH, when I started off, I'd mostly stick to facts, not opinions, because I felt happier that way - doing lots of links to things for people etc. And I'm still a bit wary of posting some opinions - I look at MN more as a place for a bit of fun, and to learn some stuff, but not somewhere to generally air my personal life(except these threads, where I've probably been more forthcoming about me than most other places).

Kewcumber · 15/01/2008 09:18

and there are plenty of child-less nannies on here. People often like to hear a nanny's point of view on the nanny threads - why not dip your toe in there as a start?

TigerFeet · 15/01/2008 10:13

MM, sometimes it is really useful to get an objective view from someone who does not have the totally emotional viewpoint of a parent, so your place on MN is just as valid as anyone elses )

Most people on here aren't bothered if you are a parent or not so just pile in and enjoy!

We are off on holiday on 20th April - booked it last night - a week in a lovely quiet village on the southern Spanish coast away from the tourist hell that is the Costas! (Went to Benidorm once, hated it, it's just like my home town of Blackpool only hotter, no character about it at all )

So how much weight can I lose in 3 months then? Given that I have had a shocking first week at WW and eaten myself stupid at my friends' house at the weekend

JackieNo · 15/01/2008 12:56

OOh - there's an incentive, TigerFeet. Sounds lovely.

TigerFeet · 15/01/2008 14:09

Shit. Have eaten a Creme Egg

All the skinny minnies in the office are complaining that they need to lose a stone before they go on their holidays

I have the munchies but I can't be hungry... I have drunk loads of water and had porridge for breakfast and veg curry for lunch (and a cream egg)

Why is this so haaaaaaaaaaard [wails]

Right. Am off to get over myself now

TigerFeet · 15/01/2008 14:11

lol it seems that the pedant in me will not allow me to consistently spell "creme egg" as "creme egg"

JackieNo · 15/01/2008 15:27

lol - I have the same problem with Krispy Kreme . It's Just Not Right, is it.

TigerFeet · 15/01/2008 15:59

I feel like I am in an episode of The Simpsons sometimes

JackieNo · 15/01/2008 16:03

What, with Krusty the Clown (Klown?)

TigerFeet · 15/01/2008 21:07

probably yes - not really sure why but I always thing of America and THe Simpsons when I see Krispy Kreme type spellings
