Behind a paywall could you maybe summarise?

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 28/01/2022 14:58

Oh weird. Paywall wasn't there when I read it & now I can't get back in 🙈

Maybe someone has a share token?

Jeez that all sounds like very hard work. Skipping one meal a day? Not having any snacks but if you do just fruit and veg sticks?
I don't think a diet is sustainable if you're going to be hungry, and skipping a meal would surely make you hungry?

IWasWillingToGoWassailing · 28/01/2022 16:41

God, what a joyless approach to living that list is!

OperationRinka · 28/01/2022 16:46

Some of them are clearly much harder than others and it would be physically impossible to do all of them. The idea is that you pick a handful , or maybe even just one, that you think might work for you.

Obese · 28/01/2022 16:47

That's what I said!

I mean, I'm fat so what do I know? But I don't think I'd be able to eat like that forever even if it meant I was a normal weight.

OperationRinka · 28/01/2022 16:53

Keeping an eye on your diet and exercise for the rest of your life is indeed a bit joyless, but living with the consequences of obesity like diabetes, cancer and fucked knees is even less fun. There's a limit to what restrictions I'd accept for purely cosmetic reasons, but if your weight is gradually increasing to the point that it's going to put you at risk of serious health effects then that's a different matter.

crazyjinglist · 28/01/2022 16:54

Fgs what a stupid article! The problem isn't that people don't know that all those things would make you lose weight. The problem is that people can't stick to doing them.

As for the ridiculousness of starting the article by saying people fail at diets because they're too harsh or complicated, and then promptly giving a massively long list of things you should do, including daily weighing, calorie counting and lots of specific monitoring of packaging, specific numbers of nuts, etc... Hmm Words fail me really.

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 28/01/2022 17:27

Well I was coming on to say that 53 steps won't aid weight loss, up your step rate mate! Grin

I do see your point here. But since my joints are already fucked due to hypermobility not diagnosed til I was 40 and I have recently had a terrifying spell of ill-health involving reduced mobility and pulmonary embolisms, I am absolutely of the mindset that my life should be enjoyable; not an endless slog to achieve an unsustainable weight / shape.
meliscanan88 · 30/01/2022 13:30

it's really hard to try.

TangledUp789 · 30/01/2022 16:41

Well I thought it was a very helpful article - I'm going to print off a copy. Mostly things I already know, but it's useful to have it all written down in one list.

If people actually read it properly, you're not expected to do lots/all of the things on the list - they say just two or three are fine if that's all you can do. And it's not just an article, it's the results of an Oxford University study, where 'after eight weeks the people adopting one or more of the 53 daily steps had lost half a stone [3.2kg] more than the others'. So it does work for some, obviously.

Candleabra · 30/01/2022 16:44

53 steps…. Not exactly catchy is it?!
Sounds like very hard work.
