7lb to lose and no more ‘starting again tomorrow!’ Who’s with me?

ShortnStout · 09/01/2022 20:04

I know it’s not loads, but 7lbs when you’re 5’1 makes a big difference. My clothes are tight and I feel crap in everything. I also don’t want to wait until it’s 17lbs, which it will be if I carry on like this!

And I am starting again tomorrow. No really now!! Grin

Anyone fancy joining?

I'd suggest skipping to 5:10 if you do watch the video!

MsWalterMitty · 10/01/2022 18:19

Well done OP!

I find that I eat better during the week when I’m at work as i don’t have time to snack 🙈

Today ate halloumi and avocado with onion relish on sour dough bread… was lovely! 3 bourbons! And for dinner it will be bean chilli.

I usually eat dinner around 6 with the kids but trialing eating a bit later to see if it stops me craving shite after 8!!

ShortnStout · 10/01/2022 20:13

Well I did it!! Dragged my way through day one successfully, clawing on to day two…
Hope everyone else had a good one!

Can I join? I'm an inch shorter than you OP and I've been too scared to weigh myself after christmas...going to face that fear tomorrow morning...

Half a stone off would make a huge difference to my appearance, I just need to be consistent.

My plan is to avoid junk, dry Jan and spinning 4 times a week.

FetchezLaVache · 11/01/2022 15:15

Hi, may I join?

I'm 5'4" and need to lose at least a stone.

I used to find it easy to stay in the region of 8st 7lb, but my weight has been creeping up and I am now 9st 12lb. I'm 48 and finding it a lot harder to shift the odd few pounds these days.

So the plan is:

  1. No more booze/crisps/sweets/general crap
  2. Run/walk every other day or thereabouts
  3. 12,000 steps a day
  4. I'm going to do James Duigan's 6-day Tummy Transformer diet (but only for 4 days, because I don't think I could stick it out for any longer than that...) followed by general sensible healthy eating.

What sort of things do you eat for your 1400 calories a day, @ShortnStout? Or do you just have whatever you want, but stop after you reach your quota?

MsWalterMitty · 11/01/2022 22:51

I’ve just googled James Duigan 😬😬

DataColour · 12/01/2022 09:35

I remember reading a James Duigan book years ago on clean eating. I quite liked it!

I've lost a couple of pounds since last week according to the scales which is great, but I don't think it's going to carry on at the same rate.
I've run for about 4 days running which helped.
I've been cooking a lot of veg based curries and not eating a lot of carbs.
Struggling not to snack too much in the evening though, so I am a bit pekish when I'm going to bed.
Hope everyone else is doing well?

Hellosunshiner · 12/01/2022 14:21

Hi all! Joining in too! I have a good stone to lose, but would be very happy with half a stone for the time being.

Started again today. 11st 3lb for the record. Usually around the 10st mark. It's down to lockdown snacking habits which have stuck. I seem to have forgotten what it's like to not snack or give in to takeaways, drinks, snacks etc whenever I feel like it. I used to be so disciplined! (wails).

Anyway, today I have a new motivation. Drinking water etc and determined to get through a snack-free day and stick to an eating plan. Data I snack in the evenings too, it's my danger zone. All the efforts of the day go out of the window and I can't stop picking at biscuits/crackers/toast etc until I've eaten an extra meal's worth of calories then go to bed feeling annoyed with myself. Plan is to stick to fruit as a snack, if I really must. But I love carbs so much.... Smile

MsWalterMitty · 12/01/2022 18:09

I am planning for snack free days too! I think even if I eat normal carbs like bread and pasta Is still lose weight but not snacking on crap!

Apparently it only takes 3 days to get over a sugar addiction?!

Hellosunshiner · 13/01/2022 09:37

Hope we all had a good day yesterday.

MsWalterMitty I love carbs and just can't do the mainly-protein type diet for long, if at all. I can lose (and have lost) lots of weight in the past by not snacking and keeping to a basic healthy diet. If only it was as easy to not snack as it is to write the words! Grin

Anyway, I didn't snack yesterday, drank water, went on a walk, had balanced meals etc and I'm 2lb off, so 11st 1lb today. Hoping to make a big dent into the 10 stones by Monday! But the weekend is usually full of temptation - snacks and takeaways and drinks. However I am sick of half my clothes not fitting. Once I have got back into the 10s it will unlock a lot of my wardrobe! Smile

EvilRingahBitch · 13/01/2022 09:40

Count me in.

I'm doing Dry January which in my mind always means I'll lose weight from cutting out alcohol calories, but in practice always means I end up binging on sugar to make up for it - also have spent the last twelve days finishing off the Christmas and New Year goodies.

Seven pounds would be perfect.

Dearblossom · 13/01/2022 09:49

I'm in too please! I don't weigh myself but I'd guess it's about the same weight you are all going for, my current size is nearly too small and my goal is for it is to be a bit too big, along with cutting sugar, improving muscle tone and getting more mobile with the home working forever for me now.

I joined local gym last week and am using the walking machine, a little swim and random yoga classes they put on during the week. I would like to try the pilates next week and I've also signed up for some online 'Beginners Ballet for Menopausal Women', to try and maintain some grace in my doddery years (I'll be lucky ha ha!)

Food wise, sugar in my copious tea is a downfall so I am going to try and do a few days a week no normal tea just herbal with honey. I also signed up for one of these online pre prepped smoothie boxes, had first yesterday, they are huge, so I will get 2 out of each one. I am picking up a piece of fruit instead of the biscuits (I've put the fruit bowl half between where I sit and the biscuit cupboard), I used to replace a meal with a pack of jammy d's (shame on me ha ha)

Anyone ever tried that wobbling machine at the gym, I got on it last night but had to get off quick for laughing so much!

coogee · 13/01/2022 11:48

I don’t weigh myself but the muffin has reappeared so I think I need to lose around half a stone. I’ve been calorie counting since Monday keeping to a maximum of 1500. I’m pretty active normally so don’t plan to do any extra exercise.

FetchezLaVache · 13/01/2022 18:36

Checking in from Day Three of the most tedious diet in the world! All I can eat is lean white protein and various green veggies, five times a day. No fat, no herbs, no seasoning. Loads of water, fibre supplement whenever I can be bothered to take it (you're supposed to buy James Duigan's own product, but it's £50 so sod that!! Have bought an alternative from Holland & Barrett for £16). I am not especially hungry, but desperately craving some flavour! I have cheated a weeny bit, e.g. by eating a bit of fruit. Also had one chip yesterday.

I had a headache all day on Day One, which was presumably all the toxins flooding out of my system. :)

Managing my 12,000 steps, also went for a run/walk yesterday but found it tougher going than usual. It's interesting to see how much we are fuelled by the immediate carbs available in our bloodstream, or wherever (GCSE Biology was a long time ago!). Today, running up the stairs a few times in quick succession (because I kept forgetting things) had me out of breath; I felt a bit like I do if I go for a run too soon after giving blood. So I think I will definitely eat a banana before tomorrow's run/walk.

I will weigh myself on Saturday morning to see how much four days of this nonsense has lost me!

Hellosunshiner · 14/01/2022 11:18

Fetchez that is impressive commitment! Good luck for Saturday weigh-in. You definitely deserve to see some results. I am terrible at sticking to protein etc. I cannot give up carbs ever but I know proteins would be better.

I think plain food is better for losing weight. In the past when I've done weight-loss recipes, I always run into a few problems. If it's too delicious or tasty, I will eat and eat it beyond a portion size, so it's pointless. Whereas if I have a very basic and plain diet, my tastebuds stop asking me for more so I eat less!

Stayed the same today at 11st 1lb. Not surprising really as although I didn't snack, I didn't give in. I do daily weigh-ins, but really I should just do weekly, as daily weight can fluctuate with water retention and either give a false sense of joy or disappointment. I didn't drink much water yesterday though which is key for me - it fills me up. Definitely going to stick to the plan today, I would really like to drop into the 10s either tomorrow or Sunday. Hope everyone has a great day! We can do this!

FetchezLaVache · 15/01/2022 08:51

Thank you, @Hellosunshiner! I rather fell off the wagon yesterday, I'm afraid. I cracked and put some chilli flakes, lemon zest and fresh coriander on my chicken breast before I steamed it Grin. I also had several cups of builder's tea, a raw carrot and some absolutely verboten breadsticks. Also had a banana before my run/walk, which went MUCH better!

I only actually ate two meals out of the prescribed five, though, because I am so sick of bland food that I couldn't bring myself to do it until I was ravenous. Maybe that's the secret of this diet! As you say, plain food so you don't actually want to eat it. :)

I am also completely with you on the carbs v protein thing. Carbs are just so much more satisfying!

However, moaning aside, I weighed in this morning and I have lost half a flipping stone!! I am now 9st 5lb. I don't look or feel like I've lost that much, so it's probably all fluid, but even so, it's great to feel that the ordeal was worth it and a great basis to continue. But with actual food this time. And I know I can always do the nightmare diet of terror for a few days whenever I need to lose weight quickly.

How's everyone else doing?

Hellosunshiner · 15/01/2022 13:03

Wow Fetchez half a stone!! Well done you, that's amazing! Star It is definitely worth it. Love it that you cracked.... and added chilli flakes etc Grin Keep it up, you're on a roll! How much are you planning on losing in total?

Still 11st 1lb today so I've maintained not lost, but I'm taking that as a plus as I had a couple of extra bits yesterday, but not the Friday snacks that I might normally give into. Just got to avoid Saturday night snacks now! I'm usually quite good Monday-Thurs so just need to get through today and tomorrow and then I'll have done my first proper weekend. That's the plan anyway!

BrimfulOfBaba · 17/01/2022 12:30

That is incredible @FetchezLaVache - I can't even imagine that level of willpower!

I have lost 2lbs since starting which I'm happy with - if I stay on track, I should be 9st0 by May, which I am thrilled about. I'm counting calories, doing 10k steps a day minimum and doing the Sweat challenge. I'm also aiming for one hour on the cross trainer each Sunday (and at least 20 mins every other day). I don't feel hungry or lacking in anything and already feel a lot better and more energetic :)

Midlifeponderer · 17/01/2022 19:05

I think this is the thread for me!

I’m 5’3” and 9st 12. I want to lose half a stone, well actually I’d like to get back to the 9’1” I used to be, but I’ve given up all hope of that. Mid 50s now and it feels like the menopause effect has well and truly kicked in.

I’ve done 2 weeks of 1300 calories per day max (except Saturdays), 14 hours fasting each day and reducing carbs. Weighed myself this morning and I haven’t lost a single pound. I will confess I had a little cry - it never used to be this hard!

FetchezLaVache · 18/01/2022 10:21

@Midlifeponderer, sucks, doesn't it! I can recommend you a really unenjoyable diet that gets results though (see my posts above!). Have you tried to be more active alongside eating less? I can't lose weight without exercise these days, I just seem to need that metabolism boost.

I properly fell off the wagon at the weekend - I had curry on Saturday night and a roast on Sunday! It was heavenly, but I daren't weigh myself. :) I am back on the diet now (not as extreme this time, just eating healthily and eating carbs sparingly) and will weigh in on Saturday morning again - hopefully I can repair the damage over the next few days!

FetchezLaVache · 18/01/2022 10:22

@BrimfulOfBaba what's the Sweat challenge?

HappydaysArehere · 18/01/2022 10:43

I’ve been eating with the idea that “when it’s gone, it’s gone” but it’s still there!!!Getting desperate now so any hints welcome.

BrimfulOfBaba · 18/01/2022 14:17

@FetchezLaVache Sweat is Kayla Itsine's workout app, and every January there's a challenge on it to do 4 resistance workouts and 2 cardio sessions each week for 6 weeks. It's motivating and quite hard!

@HappydaysArehere taking things slow and breaking things down into smaller achievable goals has been helpful for me. I have a little note on my note app to remind myself of my overall goal (to lose a stone) and how long it would take me if I lost 1.5lbs every week. And then I have little milestones to work to on the way!

I'd also recommend going on youtube and looking at James Clear's advice on goal setting - life changing.

Hellosunshiner · 18/01/2022 14:32

I still haven't broken into the 10st somethings Sad but on the other hand I haven't put anything on. I was doing so so well until a pizza appeared on Saturday night and I just can't say no. Then an impromptu roast on Sunday. That would have been OKish, but for the glass or two of wine and the pudding afterwards.

I don't know how I used to be able to say no to indulgences, in order to be 10st in general, 9.5st when I made an effort (I'm 5'8" so 9.5st is slim on me and 10st is definitely reasonable).

Anyway, I've started again -trying intermittent fasting this time. Perhaps definitely not being on the snacks on certain days will help remove some of the temptation. Fetchez you in for another try? Grin

BrimfulofBaba Great idea of setting reminders on the phone, thank you. I just want to get into the clothes I like again, that's my goal!

Hellosunshiner · 21/01/2022 10:22

Ooh, so close today. 11st 0lb. I really could break into the 10s tomorrow - if only I can avoid snacks tonight!

How's everyone else getting on? Come back! Smile You can still do this and lose the half stone by spring, or earlier! I'm clawing my way to my goal weight, bit by bit. It's not perfect - but the overall trajectory is down!
