@McLarenette thank you! I feel the same - it’s so freeing. I get the sick feeling with anything too high in fat, sugar I seem to be able to tolerate pretty well. I think it’s just so different for everyone.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 06/09/2022 17:34

That’s amazing BuntyCollocks what a wonderful difference. You must be so pleased. Do you mind me asking though how the mini gastric bypass is reversible as everything I’ve read says that it isn’t. I’m so terrified of having surgery, ending up with complications and they can’t do anything to fix it as the procedure can’t be reversed. I know I’m just panicking and it’s why I’m opting for the band rather than anything else but I’m desperate to change my life in positive ways. I’m tired of carrying an extra person around with me given how much I weigh!

Beetr00t · 07/09/2022 16:07

Amazing Bunty, you look great, thank you. I am phobic of sick (emetophobia) so worry endlessly that I will be sick all the time- it's why I've put it off til now.

BuntyCollocks · 08/09/2022 15:55

Thanks both. It’s reversible in that the staples portioning your stomach can be removed and your stomach moved back to the original position. There’s also only one join not 3 like in the full bypass.

@Beetr00t i can no longer physically be sick!

niki26 · 28/09/2022 08:37

Hi all - just wanted to update as I had my gastric sleeve on Saturday 24th sept! Recovery was harder than I thought - felt very sicky and groggy. Feeling so much better now and adjusting to my new, improved way of life!

doodlywoodlydingdong · 26/08/2022 21:20

Yes, I would absurdly like some recommendations of Turkish DRs !

I went to Ozel Saglik hospital in Izmir last November and had my sleeve done by Dr Mehmet Deniz. It’s been absolutely life changing for me, I’m down over 12 stone and about 30 years 😂. Happy to chat via PM/WhatsApp if you want to ask anything x

TightDiamondShoes · 28/09/2022 09:13

I’ve had a bit of a set-back. Was due to have mine in 3 weeks but have been diagnosed with MS. Surgeon now says he won’t do a bypass due to absorption of meds, only a sleeve. Gutted (ha!) isn’t the word for it. Plus I’m in no fit state to travel and need more tests - so I’ve had to reschedule to January. I was so eager - although it’s only my flights I’ve lost.

amazing loss @JudgeRindersMinder !

JudgeRindersMinder · 28/09/2022 09:30

@TightDiamondShoes that’s such a pity that you’ve had to reschedule-so sorry to hear about your diagnosis-but at least it’s just a blip not a cancellation. Don’t be too disheartened at having a sleeve, it’s just a different road, but will still be life changing for you x

somebody2lava · 28/09/2022 10:45

@BuntyCollocks

That's amazing!! How are you doing in terms of excess skin? And how old are you?

I'm m 44 and about 16 1/2 to 17 stone depending on my cycle. I desperately need to lose weight as my knees are collapsing from RA. But I'm worried about ending up saggy ( which is ridiculously shallow I know).

BuntyCollocks · 28/09/2022 10:51

@somebody2lava (love the username!)

thanks! I don’t really have any tbh! Where I do I had it prior to getting as big anyway as I had an emcs and my stomach never recovered. I’m planning a tummy tuck to address that but otherwise I’m very lucky. If I was being super critical I might like a wee bit off my arms but I think most of that will come off with a bit more loss as it’s not saggy and still feels like there’s some fat in there 😂

I’m 39

Scoundrella · 01/10/2022 12:45

Im Not sure if it’s better to start my own thread but I’m considering private weight-loss surgery. I’ve tried everything under the Sun and nothing seems to work so it’s pretty much my last resort.

im currently 300ish lbs. (21.5st) So I have 10-12st to lose before I’m at my correct weight … I’m really nervous bug planning to book a consultation with a clinic end of yeh month. Does anyone have any experience in what I should expect or what type of surgery would be best? I want to know what I should be asking for

Thurst · 01/10/2022 13:48

Sleeve - restricts the amount you can eat but not really the types of food for most people. Good for binge eaters and people who eat large portions.
Bikini sleeve - same as above but the incisions are made to be hidden below the bikini line.
Gastric bypass - restricts how much you can eat and prevents most people eating high fat and sugar foods by causing ‘dumping’ (sweating, racing heart, sick feeling). Bypasses also cause malabsorption so some calories are not absorbed.
Good for grazers and people with a sweet tooth. Bypasses can cause malabsorption of medications.
All carry risks, read accounts on Facebook of people who have literally had their lives ruined. All have amazing benefits, read on Facebook about the many more people who have had their lives saved/hugely improved.

porkypine · 01/10/2022 15:21

@Scoundrella no need to start your own thread on this. I had a gastric sleeve done privately in August. I would recommend it. For reference I’m heavier than you.

Scoundrella · 01/10/2022 16:16

Do you mind me asking did you have to lose weight before they’d do the procedure? Also was the anaesthetic scary? I also need back surgery but my surgeon essentially told me it’s too dangerous and I might not wake up. Obviously I’ll speak to the weightloss consultant just trying to get views from people who have had it.

have you found the weight comes off quite fast or is it a slow burner?

Thurst · 01/10/2022 19:07

Bariatric surgeons are used to operating on people who are bigger and the operation it’s self is no more dangerous than gall stone removal or other routine surgery.
I didn’t have to lose any weight but I needed to do an LDR (liver reducing diet) which is a very low calorie diet. I did mine for 10 days but it’s often more depending on your weight and your surgeon. The crash diet shrinks the liver to make surgery easier and less dangerous.
Everyone is different in how much and how quickly they lose. For me I lost about a stone a month. But I only had about 6 stone to lose.

porkypine · 01/10/2022 20:26

@Scoundrella I had to go in a liver reducing diet for 2 weeks beforehand - basically low carb low calorie low fat. Surgeon was excellent. Having an anaesthetic was fine - I've had a number in the past. Thing is, these people do this every day, so whilst for the patients it's a life changing moment, for them it's just another day at the office. They are experts in their field.
Lost weight easily with the pre op diet, then for a couple of weeks after it just fell off me. I then stalled for a few weeks because I wasn't eating enough protein. Have started including a protein shake daily and I'm losing weight steadily. I expect to lose 12-14lb per month. Down a dress size already etc.

Scoundrella · 02/10/2022 07:58

@Thurst and @porkypine thank you! The spinal surgeon had me pretty freaked out if im honest.

it’s such a difficult decision to make but I’ve spent most of my teens and whole adult life dieting and losing them regaining. Now nothing is working.

Thurst · 02/10/2022 08:49

@Scoundrella
There is a small risk with any surgery but unless you have other medical issues it really is small. The other risks are long term feeding issues, psychological problems and transfer addictions/fixations.
There is also a risk associated with staying obese. The statistics show that most adults who have a bmi over 35 will not be able to become a healthy weight and maintain it without surgery.
It’s hard decision but personally I’m very very happy I made it.

Scoundrella · 02/10/2022 16:16

@Thurst wise words! I just can’t see myself ever losing the weight and maintain that lose without taking this step. I’m lucky I have a very support husband who understands how much this is to me.

Dahlia1978 · 03/10/2022 10:10

Hi, can I join? I'm having a gastric sleeve next week, currently doing the pre op diet which is proving tough! x

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 04/10/2022 12:23

I'm booked in for my sleeve on 7th November. I've got a 3 week LDR due to a 54 BMI

If anyone has any hints, tips or suggestions then I would love to hear them!

Dahlia1978 · 04/10/2022 13:33

@Anguauberwaldironfoundersson what type of LRD are you doing? I'm doing low calorie soups and meals. It's tough but will definitely be worth it x

I'm thinking of doing the Slimfast/shakes one. The thought of the dairy/milk/yoghurt makes me feel queasy and the low cal meal one I'd be too frightened of getting wrong!

Dahlia1978 · 04/10/2022 15:47

I don't think I could manage the milk diet either! I'm doing ok with the low calorie meals, I've lost nearly a stone in the first week x

smegley · 06/10/2022 17:16

Hello

Thought it might be good for me to join in the chat, im 11 days post sleeve op and I've just been prescribed anti sickness meds for the near constant nausea I'm experiencing.

Im struggling quite a bit at the min if I'm honest and wondering if it will all be worth it :(
