I’m sore today. And grumpy. And frustrated because I want to do stuff but I’m sore so can’t.
however I’ve lost over a stone in the last 3 weeks!!! I know that’s not going to continue as I increase what I’m putting in and slower is better. but blimey!

im planning future exercise having been a blob for years. When could I swim?

bornonvalentines · 01/08/2022 15:00

@WitchesWalk How are you feeling this afternoon? I'm one week out today and thought I'd be seeing double digit losses in pounds but .... I'm not. I've lost as much in the past by cutting out carbs for a week.

On the upside, much much less stomach pain.

What can we tell you to cheer you on, @WitchesWalk ?

WitchesWalk · 01/08/2022 15:04

Well I’ve jacked in work for the day. Luckily I’m v flexible this week so I can spread it out better. So I’m just chilling with a book now which is what I need I think. I’m very good at looking after everyone else and telling everyone to rest and take care of themselves but rubbish at doing it for myself

bornonvalentines · 01/08/2022 15:22

@WitchesWalk Can't believe you're trying to work. You're q braver woman than I. I know everyone is different, but couldn't think of going back after a week. Enjoy your book x

SavBbunny · 03/08/2022 08:35

Any recommendations for UK based surgery (South)?
Still waiting on NHS. I am not going to be working until the autumn so I would like to try to get my operation in.

McLarenette · 03/08/2022 19:56

I recently had a gastric bypass op by James Hewes at the Spire in Bristol, I was very pleased with how everything went.

DoINeedToDoThis · 04/08/2022 15:55

Day 1 of my LRD today. Nerves are kicking it now.

Turtlerunner · 05/08/2022 23:59

I'm due to have a sleeve next month at the Churchill Middlesex & a friend has offered to do the 3 1/2 HR drive to pick me up afterwards. Am I right thinking that's more doable than thinking I could drive myself? I'm already worried about the journey even as a passenger but don't have the option of a closer hospital. What are people's experiences of getting home post op. It'll be a 2 night hospital stay then discharged.

fudfootedfannybangle · 06/08/2022 06:06

I drove myself home for 2 hours after my band and I was fine - but I was 20 years younger - and also traffic not as heavy 20 years ago! It was fine.

but… after my tummy tuck my dad drove me home and that was horrendous, I’d bled through my clothes and seatbelt - but I think in some ways a TT is more invasive than keyhole.

I’ve got a 2.5 hour train journey when I get off the plane and I’m just going to have to suck it up and shuffle down the carriage like an OAP.

I would check that your car insurance permits you to drive so quickly after abdominal surgery, I’d be surprised if it does. I found an hour drive home as a passenger ok, just pretty uncomfortable after bypass surgery. I would accept your friend’s kind offer of a lift.

Good luck with your op!

ColeslawSandwich · 08/08/2022 10:36

so this will be very outing. I had to return to hospital and have now been here for a week. I can’t hold down any liquids or foods. Had endoscopy and all was fine.
need some ct scans today to put a plan in place. I haven’t eaten anything in nearly a month.

Boybandfacedfannyfart · 08/08/2022 10:42

I’m a regular on this thread but have NC (I do on a regular basis). Huge hugs to you @ColeslawSandwich and I hope you’re feeling much better soon. 🤗

SavBbunny · 08/08/2022 11:53

@ColeslawSandwich sorry to hear this.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 09/08/2022 19:05

@ColeslawSandwich i hope you are able to get to the bottom of what’s happening and you feel better soon

Myusername2015 · 10/08/2022 05:14

Hi all what a great thread. I’m considering surgery; years and years of. Health problems and yo yo ing weight..I’ve got to 40 and I just can’t keep on like this..I’ll go private with around 6-7 stone to lose. I just have a few questions…I’m a single parent with a 5 year old full custody…after the surgery when you got home were you able to look after children? Could you drive soonish? Anything else you would recommend when choosing a surgeon? Thanks so much

McLarenette · 10/08/2022 07:48

Thinking of you, @ColeslawSandwich - I really hope they help you feel a lot better soon.

Boybandfacedfannyfart · 10/08/2022 09:08

@Myusername2015 I’m a single parent too although tbf my ex does take the kids EOW and holidays so he can have his mum/gf look after them.

I’ve booked my op for October school hols when they’re away. Mine are older than yours but I’ve made sure they can do the basics since they were tiny. If your 5 year old spends 3 days eating weetabix and wearing their t-shirt back to front not the end of the world.

I was unconscious with flu for 3 days when the eldest was 6. They lived on weetabix and sandwiches and we all came out the other side. 😁

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 10/08/2022 10:07

I was able to look after the kids (11 and 8) from about day 3/4 and able to drive after a week or so. However, everyone is different and some people struggle for longer so you may need a back up plan especially if you have little ones.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 10/08/2022 10:09

Just to add its worth being a bit of a rubbish parent (letting them be glued to an iPad for a week and eat take out) for the benefits they will get when your slimmer and have more energy and of course you’ll likely live longer with less care needs too.

niki26 · 10/08/2022 12:59

How are you doing @ColeslawSandwich ?

ColeslawSandwich · 12/08/2022 02:03

Thanks for all the messages. I’m still in hospital, hoping to get out by Monday.
i managed to eat about 6 teaspoons of purée yesterday and keep it down.
im wondering if I should ask for a reversal??

Boybandfacedfannyfart · 12/08/2022 08:37

Hello! Big decision you have on your hands - but personally id like to think those 6 spoons marked the turning of a corner - and that if you can do the same today, 9 tomorrow and 12 on Sunday then it’s looking hopeful.

what do the medics say?

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 12/08/2022 10:08

There are people on Facebook that found it rough beyond the usual couple of days who are fine now. Personally I’d give it longer to see how it settles. But obviously only you can judge how much you’re suffering right now and there’s no shame in deciding it’s too much.

DoINeedToDoThis · 12/08/2022 18:12

Hi, I have surgery a week today. Flying alone to Turkey.

A mixture of emotions at the moment, but I know that I need to do this.

Any words of wisdom?

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 12/08/2022 23:03

@DoINeedToDoThis
Speak up - if you’re sick tell them you want meds, if you aren’t getting fluids down ask for an extra drip, if you are in pain get something for it.
Also after the op try different types and temperatures of drinks. I was only able to drink hot juice for a long time.
Pre write a message saying ‘the op is done, I’m fine but sleepy, I’ll call later’ for anyone who is waiting for news. I was zonked after the op and just couldn’t message and my other half was worried.
Comfy PJ’s are a must!
Good Luck - I’m sure you’ll smash it!
