Has anyone used this recently? I can see quite a few old threads. I started this on Friday and wondered if anyone could share their experience. Thanks

Oh tried this a number of years ago! It’s dangerous is it the stuff where if you eat a meal that is too fatty you literally leak fat out of your bum! You basically absorb no fat! I had a very bad accident after a Michelin star meal reckon i stained my knickers after a fart!

Hairyfriend · 29/10/2021 00:44

I haven't tried it recently but years ago- same medication though. I suggest wearing full briefs (no strings) and a sanitary pad. No, not just a panty liner!!! One side effect is that the oil from your food can seep out- anally! It doesn't need to be a fart, it can just come out unexpectedly!!! Make sure you wear some sort of protection.

It is very useful as you quickly learn what foods are high in fat. BUT, the idea in the 90's was high fat is bad, but now a days its all keto! (low carbs). Its really just move more, eat less, but its very hard- I know!

heefer · 29/10/2021 00:56

Thanks for the replies. How much weight did you lose and how long did it take? I have stated to work out what I can and can't eat. Imagine being so useless you can only decide not to eat something because you might ass leak rather than not eat it because you'll get fat...but that is me exactly

I’m not sure any - it genuinely made me ill. I kept catching infections and felt very rundown with it - so came off it

Hairyfriend · 31/10/2021 12:52

I didnt use it long enough to actually lose weight- the side effects were just too great!

I read about fat not being the bad thing and did a keto diet instead and lost 10kg over about 2-3 mths .

ArchwizardTVampirebat · 31/10/2021 13:12

As with pps, it made orange stuff leak randomly out of my bum and had no effect on my weight. This was the half-strength 'Alli' you can buy over the counter. An unpleasant waste of money for me, I'm afraid.

heefer · 31/10/2021 15:30

@Hairyfriend is the keto diet difficult to follow?

OP posts:
Slagertha · 31/10/2021 15:45

My friend had this and kept shitting herself

meltingappointment · 31/10/2021 15:47

I have a box in the kitchen but I can't quite see the point of it. The low fat diet required means you will lose weight anyway.

Hairyfriend · 31/10/2021 20:27

@heefer- like any diet, the keto did take time to understand the principles, what food was high/low in carbs etc. I used the 'carb manager' app on my phone. I'd have no way to keep track otherwise. Certainly great for weight loss, and you can dial up the carbs to just a low carb diet (not keto) once you are at your ideal weight.

Like any diet though, if you don't stick with it, or exercise less, you will put the weight back on.

me4real · 05/11/2021 18:46

@heefer How're you getting on? I had my first one this afternoon. No gastric effects yet.

Orlistat works by clearing 1/3 of the fat you eat so if a meal doesn't contain fat there's no point taking it. If someone was having a very low fat diet it wouldn't do anything, like others have said.

So it mostly works as a behavioural aid. I imagine it becomes tempting to have one's treat foods and not take the tablet, to avoid the consequences.

Some fats are healthy BTW but we still only need them in relatively small amounts, and the healthy fats don't tend to be the ones people eat in keto. I suppose it might be possible to do, like, vegan keto that was just healthy fats or something. Smile

heefer · 05/11/2021 21:47

@me4real gah shite tbh. I thought I'd lost a couple of lbs but when I weighed myself this morning I'd put it back on, got my period this afternoon so I really hope it's water weight...but who knows. I won't be skipping any tablets so I can cheat. I am so fed up being fat. Keep me posted with how you're doing Smile

I work in healthcare and have seen a lot of people use it, most lose very little and regain any weight loss when they stop it

me4real · 05/11/2021 22:15

@heefer Bummer. I hope your results'll get better. Have you had any nasty side effects or anything?

@Kummerspeck Yep the only way it could be maintained long term is if people managed long term improvement in their habits.

heefer · 06/11/2021 07:21

@me4real haven't had anything too bad, I've just altered my diet so I don't have anything nasty.

OP posts:
heefer · 06/11/2021 22:57

@me4real how's it going? Looks like those couple of lbs were water weight so I hope the numbers on the scales continue to drop 🤞🏻

OP posts:
me4real · 06/11/2021 23:36

Yay, well done. Smile I've lost a lb or two too, I don't seem to have quite the same appetite. But that could also be therapy or Noom (drinking lots of water/fluid.)

KOKO and let us know how it goes. Smile

heefer · 08/11/2021 09:24

@me4real well done. How did you get on over the weekend?

OP posts:
Chargreen · 08/11/2021 09:31

Ditch it, OP. It will temporarily dictate your life and isn’t worth it for the few pounds you might lose —and the double you will probably put back on—I remember being round a friend’s house and a mutual pal stood up to leave only to find that she had shat orange oil all over our friend’s sofa. An orlistat casualty.

I’ve been varyling degrees of fat my entire life, OP. Low carb complimented by exercise is the only thing that’s ever made any significant difference.

TheDuchessOfDork · 08/11/2021 15:52

Yes, I used it last year.

I lost 4 stone and got to a healthy weight. I used Alli, not prescription strength,

You can't do it and still eat crap though. If you do that you will shit yourself. It trains you not to eat fatty foods!

I did it and also used My Fitness Pal to stick to a sensible number of calories a day too (so that I wasn't giving up the fatty stuff and replacing it with heavy carbs etc). Walked 15000 steps a day, no other exercise (I can't, I've got an injury that means I can't do anything impactful).

It works, but it's not a magic pill that means you can continue with bad eating habits and still lose weight. You have got to be sensible with it.

I never had any accidents, btw.

TheDuchessOfDork · 08/11/2021 15:54

Oh and I haven't regained they weight a year later because I adjusted my eating habits.

WildImaginings · 08/11/2021 20:42

Basically don't fart unless you're sitting on the loo.

heefer · 08/11/2021 20:51

@TheDuchessOfDork well done on the weight loss. How long did it take you to lose the 4 stone, if you don't mind me asking?

OP posts:
Nottogetapenny · 09/11/2021 07:39

I have been on it since June! I have lost 3 stone. I haven’t had any problems, Yes occasionally when I have eaten something with more fat in it, I’ve had to run to the toilet, but nothing I couldn’t cope with! It does work. Also going to the doctors to check my weight and to get another prescription is an insensitive to keep losing. Hope it works as well for you.
