Has anyone used this recently? I can see quite a few old threads. I started this on Friday and wondered if anyone could share their experience. Thanks

Incentive (not insensitive)

heefer · 09/11/2021 12:03

@Nottogetapenny well done!! What other changes did you make to your lifestyle please?

OP posts:
Nottogetapenny · 09/11/2021 12:56

Thank you, I don’t think I changed much! Apart from having a low fat low calorie breakfast and lunch. Most days I have a boiled egg and 2 Ryvitas with a scrapping of butter for breakfast and a cup of soup and a slice of whole meal bread with butter for lunch and a piece of fruit. Dinner is vegetables with chicken meat or fish. I do try to cut down on carbs. I have a dessert of 0% Greek yogurt with a little honey.
I also occasionally when I’m visiting friends and family just have what they are having but a very much smaller portion. I also have the occasional cheat (grilled bacon sandwich)
I also don’t have anything to eat after 7.30pm
I take the Orlistat 3 times a day, with each meal even if it’s a low fat meal!
I’m not one for exercise but in losing weight I am more active!

Nottogetapenny · 09/11/2021 13:29

Some might say that the diet I am on, that I would lose weight without the tablets. I didn’t!

me4real · 09/11/2021 20:26

@heefer I've lost 4lb now but I've been doing all sorts of other things too. Therapy, Noom and some exercise classes. I've had no significant side effects/unpleasant effects even if I eat something 'naughty.' Today I've eaten loads of treats so will have to exercise more later in the week- and am going to a friend's at the weekend so will probably eat more there and not lose as much as I would've this week.

How're things with you?

Nottogetapenny · 09/11/2021 21:34

Just pointing out the side effects of eating something ‘naughty’ doesn’t show, until the next day with me!
Hope we are successful, as it’s so difficult to lose weight!

me4real · 09/11/2021 22:58

Oh dear @Nottogetapenny , I hope I don't suffer too much tomorrow, got a bus to catch. Grin

Nottogetapenny · 10/11/2021 10:04

Hi, @me4real, hope your bus journey is/was uneventful! 🤞

TheDuchessOfDork · 10/11/2021 10:18
@TheDuchessOfDork well done on the weight loss. How long did it take you to lose the 4 stone, if you don't mind me asking?
About 9 months all in.

me4real · 10/11/2021 18:32

@Nottogetapenny It was ok thank goodness Smile But I'm being crap on the diet the last couple of days. Back on the wagon soon.

Nottogetapenny · 10/11/2021 21:25

I think that the thing, when you have a bad day, it’s so easy to slip back into eating rubbish! Then it’s well I’ve gone off my diet now, I’ll go back on it on Monday!
I’m doing ok at the moment and if I do have a bit of a cheat. It’s just the one!
Hope you have a better day tomorrow. 😇

me4real · 11/11/2021 12:05

Ok, so, you can't take this and eat a whole pizza, can you? After last night I can see what people are talking about. Grin

Nottogetapenny · 11/11/2021 13:06

0 dear but, think of the weight lose! It’s worth it. 🤨

me4real · 11/11/2021 17:06

It must mostly be water this time round tho lol. I'm sure my body still registered plenty of this week's calories.

Do any of you find you are 'cheating' by just eating low fat but high sugar foods instead? Had marshmallows (cos they were lying around), breakfat of golden syrup on toast (which wasn't that nice really.) Did have salad for lunch tho.

heefer · 11/11/2021 21:57

I'm fed up now Sad

@TheDuchessOfDork 4 stone in 9 months is amazing! Congratulations. I really need to lose 2 stone but I don't think these tablets are making any difference. Do you think if I skipped breakfast, so kind of 'fasting' that might help?

OP posts:
Nottogetapenny · 12/11/2021 07:23

Hi, @heffer. Please don’t skip breakfast! What do you have? Maybe just change what you have! I was told that you do need a little fat in your diet for these tablets for them to work. That’s why I have a egg and bread with a little butter for breakfast.
Maybe cutting out too much fat from your diet is stopping it working
It is tricky getting the balance from a little to, too much.

me4real · 13/11/2021 20:47

@Nottogetapenny they work by binding to fat and pooing it out, so there's no point in taking them with a pretty much fat-free meal. But that doesn't mean we should have fat especially for the tablets. They only clear about 1/3 of the fat we eat, after all. And they're a behavioural aid to make us eat less fat.

Yes we all need a bit of fat in our diet, but we probably manage to get enough even when on a diet. Most of us eat far too much of it.

We could try and eat some of the healthy fats, for instance an olive oil spread, rather than saturated fat.

I'm just nit-picking though, what you have sounds great.

heefer · 14/11/2021 16:01

I have been skipping breakfast as a kind of fasting. I'm hungry by 12 noon but honestly not any hungrier than I usually am when I have breakfast. I feel less bloated and have lost a couple of lbs. I'm going to keep this up plus taking the tablets with lunch and dinner and see how I get on.

I actually stink today. Is this worth it?!?!

Clif97 · 14/06/2022 17:22

I’ve been taking orlistat for the past 5 days. Not had any nasty side effects, if anything, I’m constipated! I have a work day out on Thursday and we are having a curry for dinner. Does anyone know how long in advance I can stop taking orlistat so that I can enjoy a curry and not shit myself?!

AkAv84 · 23/01/2024 15:50

Hi! Just wondering if I eat relatively low fat with each meal anyway always less than 15g then do I still get the full benefits of being on this medication?

Nottogetapenny · 23/01/2024 22:05

I find that eating some fats say 18/20 grams or slightly over that, from 1 meal throughout the day, benefits taking Orlistat. It works better with the fat in take.
