I'm starting Monday, need to sort myself out and lose some weight. Planning on getting out early every morning for a walk and just keeping my calorie intake to 1200. I will give myself a cheat day and try not to be too strict and make it unachievable. Thanks for the thread OP, I'll post what I eat too. Good luck!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 14/08/2021 21:25

Me too. I lost 2 stone at the start of the year doing low carb and have put 1 stone back on Blush

I’m going for 1200 cals too. I am really struggling with snacking all the time.

LORLI · 14/08/2021 22:49

Yes I'm in, I just came onto mumsnet looking for a diet thread starting tomorrow, and here you are.

Two stone roughly to lose, probably more. Will know the damage tomorrow morning when I weigh myself.

My plan is to stop being a greedy fucker 😄

Mamajunebugjones · 15/08/2021 00:20

Usually lurker but perhaps joining others will give me more incentive to take control of diet . Truthfully- would be happy if manage not to eat as much junk, and try keep low GI.

Orcasmom · 15/08/2021 04:24

Just wondering how you picked 1200 calories and if you've counted calories before? I've been losing weight (on more calories - 1900 - because I'm breastfeeding) and one thing I've found is that if I allow myself more calories I'm much more likely to feel satisfied and less obsessive about food. 1200 really is very low. If you haven't looked at your TDEE or eaten this way before you might start by tracking what you eat for a week, averaging those calories to find your daily amount, then cutting by 10-15% for a few weeks. Combined with ADF you'd start losing weight and can gradually adjust your daily calories. Just some supportive advice, since this was my first ever experience of calorie counting and I found it shocking and quite dismal at first! And I started with 1500 calories! 😂

LORLI · 15/08/2021 08:41

Good morning. I have weighed myself and my starting weight is 11st 3.75lbs.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/08/2021 11:43

Yes, me, please! My fighting weight is 10/3, and I am currently 10/9. Still fine BMI-wise, but I feel beefy.

I’ve been on holiday for the last six weeks, and back at work tomorrow. My plan is just to eat sensibly.

MotherofPiggies · 15/08/2021 12:11

I’m in!
I’ve been inspired by the ‘Why we eat too much’ thread to cut out processed foods. I’m also following a 18:6 intermittent fast woe, eating two meals a day - no snacks.

I’m 51 and my weight has been slowly creeping up year on year. I’ve managed to lose 7lbs so far by following IF/real foods/no snacking but have more to lose.

MaryBoBary · 15/08/2021 12:43

For me the 1200 is a best case scenario. And I eat plenty of carbs to keep me feeling full or have porridge for lunch, rice/pasta with dinner etc. 1200 was what my fitness pal recommended for me to lose 2lb per week. I realise this is quite ambitious in the long term but when I've stuck to it for a few weeks I've definitely dropped at that rate.

Hairstylisttoboris · 15/08/2021 18:54

I also want to lose 10kgs. I want to cut out sweet food as I’m guessing sugary food doesn’t help my insulin and calories. I also want to Stop any evening snacking and move more, probably restart a daily jog plan. I’d like to get to doing a 2 mile a day jog, for health rather than weight loss. I’m feeling really ill today, so I might struggle to get out and exercise until I’m feeling healthy but the diet can start tomorrow. I currently weigh 72kgs.

Hairstylisttoboris · 15/08/2021 18:54

So basically can I join?

MaryBoBary · 15/08/2021 19:26

I'm starting tomorrow too @Hairstylisttoboris. I feel nervous because I really want to do this. I am also quitting smoking from tomorrow and feel nervous about that too. But nothing will change if I don't try!

safetyzone · 15/08/2021 19:28

I don't really belong here but just want to say eating carbs will not keep you full. Protein is more likely to keep you full for longer.
LORLI · 16/08/2021 08:27

How are you doing @veryactually?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/08/2021 09:55

Good morning! What do people do re weighing? I used to weigh every Wednesday because that's my day off, but over the last year and WFH have got into the habit of weighing daily which I think is probably not good because while logically I know I fluctuate, the number on the scales can make or break my day. Hope everyone has a good start to the week!

MotherofPiggies · 16/08/2021 14:11

I weigh every morning but average the results over the week as I fluctuate daily.

MaryBoBary · 16/08/2021 15:55

I'm going to weigh on a Monday. When I weighed daily I became obsessive and disappointed. Once per week will show me a definite change in numbers and not just daily/hourly fluctuations. So far so good today with the eating. I've decided to keep a habit tracker in my diary so that I can stay motivated to keep it up.

Submariner · 16/08/2021 17:14

Hi all, is it ok if I join you? I started yesterday too. I'm the heaviest I've ever been and I'm officially into the overweight banding on the NHS BMI calculator which was actually a bit of a shock for me as someone who always used to sit in the mid-low healthy range.

For me, it's really crept up with working from home - I would usually walk everywhere, now I just walk to the fridge! Also, have got into a really bad habit of having alcohol every night. Not loads, but when you add in the crisps or peanuts that go along with it and the tea and biscuits of an evening it really creeps up.

My plan is:

  • 10,000 steps a day
  • Run or some kind of exercise every day (could just be some stretches)
  • Fasting between 7pm and 7am - I'll gradually increase this
  • Fruit or veg at breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a snack of fruit or veg if I'm hungry.

I'm not calorie counting at the moment, but I'm hoping to crowd out the unhealthy stuff with fruit and veg. Maybe I'll get a bit tighter on calories once I've got into the swing of things for a few weeks.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/08/2021 19:45

Maybe I will log my weight weekly but carry on with the daily weighing.

@Submariner I am the same since WFH! I usually do about 18,000 steps on a work day without even trying. Now I need to work to get 10,000.

Twickerhun · 16/08/2021 19:47

This is entirely me! Wfh walking to the fridge and the creep of alcohol into my daily routines
Submariner · 17/08/2021 18:22

How's everyone getting on today?

MaryBoBary · 17/08/2021 19:20

I've had a good day. I've emailed someone about starting yoga classes but for today did a 20 minute full body work out yoga. I was embarrassingly bad at it but have felt proud of myself all day Smile. I've stuck to my calories and still have 150 left for a few malteasers later

MaryBoBary · 17/08/2021 19:21

How about you OP? Hope all's going well. And @Submariner have you had a good day?

Submariner · 17/08/2021 19:54

That sounds great @MaryBoBary - I have it on my to-do list to find a local yoga class.

I've had a good day - went for a walk this morning (in my running gear as I'm trying to keep in the habit of going out at the same time every morning). I've stuck to fairly healthy meals and only snacked on carrots and houmous and banana chips (not in the same snack! 😆)

Feeling good!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/08/2021 20:23

Checking in! I’ve done my steps and a DVD. I had scrambled eggs for brunch, then home-made cottage pie and broccoli for dinner. (But did have a sneaky bit of cake after.)

Yesterday I had brunch/dinner and no snacks, so that was better!

I am loosely eating between 12-8, but not beating myself up if dinner is late or lunch a bit early.
