It really was fab - one of the ladies at the book group I go to runs a therapy place near where I work, and when it was my birthday the other day, she said 'you must come and have a free hot stone massage'. She uses oil as well, and then massages you with the hot stones. Very relaxing.

Kewcumber · 26/11/2007 20:09

I like your approach Littlefish and will try to cultivate it. I really can't complain about my family on the whole but my mum does tend to be very judgemental about the whole looks thing. As someone on teh otehr thread said its the "see, you can look nice if you try" approach (in fact I think my mum has said this to me more than once). She has even tried the emotional blackmail - "you should make more effort for DS" . Presumably he will love me more if I wear mascara

Kewcumber · 26/11/2007 20:14

LMS - I think my sister probably said it - its sounds like her. She can be very condescending when discussing looks/weight/exercise and seems to think that if she says "oh you looked so stunning when..." that I will gasp in delight and rush off and lose 10 stone because she has inspired me. Sadly my mum (who has a similar weight problem to me) seems to think I will too and so repeats verbatum anything my sister says.

If she had just said "Sister said how nice you looked on Saturday" I would have felt good and been really pleased and been far more inclined to think "ok Kewcumber get yourself sorted" rather than going off and eating half a quiche (because that'll help )

littlemisssensible · 27/11/2007 12:26

Well cake would help more, obviously!!!

TigerFeet · 27/11/2007 21:04

Kew - am and what a crass, uncalled for comment. I really think that Mothers have a way of cutting to the core that other people in your life can't quite manage

fwiw I thought we all looked great at the meetup - and Kewcumber you look beautiful in that picture of you with ds sprawled over your shoulder.

Kewcumber · 28/11/2007 09:53

thanks Tiger, not much of me showing in that photo! But it is nice - one of my favorites. Sadly the resolution isn't great so I can't enlarge it even a little.

I have made a small move forward as I took one metformin tablet last night decided that LongMeg is right and that its a simple first step.

Also decided to brave the doctor and ask for a cholesterol test as I'm, sticking my head in the sand about teh fact that at my weight my cholesterol may be quite high.

Another resolution is that when I finally get an appointment at the physio for my ankles I will talk to them about what exercise will work (I'm really needing something I can do at home in the evenign when DS is in bed.

I suppose thats some kind of progress?

TigerFeet · 28/11/2007 10:04

Sounds like a good start Kewc

Would an exercise bike work for you I wonder? Would it be low impact enough for your ankles?

Kewcumber · 28/11/2007 10:05

I'm not sure - I had though of a small trampoline - thought it would be good to get physio advice (if I ever get an appointmnet)

Kewcumber · 28/11/2007 10:06

hadn;t thought of an exercise bike thoguh because I dont cycle! (presumably you can;t fall off one)

TigerFeet · 28/11/2007 10:12

you could get a recumbent one if you're worried about falling off

or one of these maybe - presumably the hairy bloke isn't included

JackieNo · 28/11/2007 13:12

I'd have thought that a trampoline might be tough on the ankles. Bike's a good idea - and you can watch tv at the same time (a friend tells me - we don't have one).

Littlefish · 28/11/2007 18:30

I've always used a recumbent bike at the gym as the saddle on a normal one tends to disappear up my sizeable rear and cause pressure sores!

Kewcumber · 28/11/2007 20:24

I've never stayed onlong enough to be in any danger of pressure sores! But never seen a recumbent stationary one before.

agalch · 29/11/2007 14:14

Got weighed and god knows how but have stayed the same phew

Have totally lost the plot again and i am eating so much rubbish again

Need to meal plan properly this week and get a bloody grip!!

Wintersun · 29/11/2007 14:31

Hi. Any room for a newcomer?

I had a baby 7 weeks ago, have had my 6 week check up and would like to lose 3.5 stones of baby weight.

I'm thinking of joining ww but thought I'd give healthy eating, walking and joining a thread like this a go first and see how it pans out.
Hopefully it will work as I am desparate to lose it but seem to find that I've-got-to-have-food-now-so-will-scoff-the-nearest-packet-of-biscuits urge hard to lose!

littlemisssensible · 29/11/2007 14:32

B@m! I forgot to weigh again

I'll have to do it tomorrow!

LongMeg · 29/11/2007 16:16

I'm glad you're back on the Metformin, KC. It sounds as if you're taking definite steps in the right direction. Even if all that talk of exercise is bringing me out in a cold sweat!

Am going for some reiki on Saturday but I'm now very tempted to ring them and change it for a hot stone massage a la Jackie instead! Sounds lovely. I'm doing quite well at not shovelling crap into my mouth, and am going to have something nice done once a month - a massage or facial or something. Partly because I want to look after my body a bit more, partly to reward myself for not shovelling the crap in.

Dh is doing his usual sabotage job at the mo ... at the first sign of me losing weight again, he brought profiteroles in - and he's brought naughty puddings in several times since. Hasn't brought anything like that into the house for ages but at the first sign that I'm back on course again off he goes.

Hello, Wintersun! We've been a wee bit quiet over the past couple of months but we seem to be picking back up again now - and you are more than welcome to join us.

JackieNo · 29/11/2007 17:37

The pampering sounds like a good move LongMeg. Reiki's nice too, though I've only had it done once, by a friend who was learning to do it. I got pregnant the month after having it - so watch out.

Hello Wintersun. Nice to have you with us.

LongMeg · 29/11/2007 20:58

In which case I am definitely going to cancel and book a hot stone massage instead!!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 29/11/2007 20:59

.

TigerFeet · 29/11/2007 21:02

Don't worry LongMeg I had reiki a while ago and remained safely unfertilised

Hi Wintersun. When dd was very tiny I found the easiest way to get some exercise was to bundle her in the pram and go for a loooooong walk.

I've lost a pound I am very pleased with that. I am still glued to the sofa with the chest infection from hell which has come back with a vengeance. I'm being threatened with hospitalisation now

JackieNo · 29/11/2007 21:09

Oh no, Tigerfeet. You poor thing. It's been ages now. Sending get well vibes your way...

LongMeg · 29/11/2007 21:35

Oh, Tiger, you poor thing

OP posts:
Littlefish · 29/11/2007 21:38

Poor you Tigerfeet. Get as much rest as you can.

Sorry, I've lost the e-mail address to send my weights to. Please can I post on here tonight, and can someone let me know in time for next week please.

Amazingly, I have lost another 3lbs, which makes 9.5 in total

TigerFeet · 29/11/2007 21:48

Thing is, I don't feel that ill a lot of the time - until I try to do anything more strenuous than lift a cup of tea and the infernal coughing starts. My gp said on Monday "your lungs sound terrible, you look awful" Gee thanks . I have no temperature, shivers or anything like that - just a pain in my chest from coughing so much. I made the mistake of googling this afternoon and diagnosed myself with pneumonia and pleurisy

Littlefish, wow that's fantastic, well done How easy are you finding the diet to stick with?
