Intermittent Fasters - what times do you eat?

Say you're doing 16/8, or 18/6, or whatever. What times do you eat?

I'm just interested, as I want to formalise my eating a bit more and want to know what other people do.

I eat at 12/1pm and my last meal is at around 7pm. I think that technically constitutes a fast? I don't really call it a fast - that's just my way of eating to try to control my weight.

I eat one small meal at lunchtime (around 400 cals) another small meal in the evening (another 400 cals) , and the remaining 400 cals split between snacks.

Ilovethewild · 03/06/2021 11:39

I do 20/4 mostly but am ok to be flexible.
If 20/4, I eat 1pm-5pm, generally 1 meal, some snacks/fruit etc.
If more flexible, it might be 12-7, sometimes I might eat twice, lunch and dinner eg if out at family, socialising or if I want to.

Try to have the bulk of your fast while asleep, otherwise it’s fine to have any fast window that suits you eg 8am- 2pm, or 2pm - 10pm.

Ilovethewild · 03/06/2021 11:40

Sorry eating window not fasting window 😂

Greenmarmalade · 03/06/2021 11:42

2-10pm or 3-11. It’s probably not ideal but suits my current lifestyle

TheLeadbetterLife · 03/06/2021 11:48

I usually eat between about 1pm and 8pm, or quite often 2pm to 8pm. Sometimes dinner is a bit later, but I rarely eat after 9pm, unless I'm out or celebrating or whatever.

I try to do a longer fast once a week too - up to 24 hours.

I try not to snack or graze during the eating window, I usually just have two meals.

73kittycat73 · 03/06/2021 12:22

11am to 7pm. I eat breakfast at 11am, lunch at 2-3pm and tea/dinner at 6-6.30pm.

ThursdayWeld · 03/06/2021 13:21

Thanks all!

@Buggerthebotox you only eat 1200 calories a day?!

OP posts:
TheLeadbetterLife · 03/06/2021 14:42

I eat 1200 calories or less most days too, as I'm dieting (though I don't actively calorie count, I focus more on keeping the carbs low).

Spodge · 03/06/2021 17:27

Lunch 2pm usually around 500 cals
Fruit/oats/yogurt 5pm around 350 cals
Evening meal 8.30pm calories anything from 700 to 1300 depending on my activity that day (and on lunch calories).

Buggerthebotox · 03/06/2021 21:30

Yes@ThursdayWeld. I'm an ancient, sedentary shortarse so I don't need much more than that. I lose weight slowly and steadily, put it back on then lose it again.

It's a pita but there you go. Been doing it for 40 odd years. I gave up breakfast when I went to university and haven't eaten it since really.

Mind you, my diet includes lots of crap. I don't think I could cope without crap. Grin.

I just do what MFP suggests, which is 1200 cals per day (pretty standard afaik).

ThursdayWeld · 03/06/2021 21:33

Oh right, I tried the NHS one and the Macros one and got advised between 1400 - 1800 calories to lose weight.

I am ancient too Grin but not too sedentary and not a short arse, though.

OP posts:
ThursdayWeld · 03/06/2021 21:34

I will see what MFP advises. I have been using it to low carb, but have got bored with that and thought I would shake things up a bit. Woohoo!! Grin

I'm intermittent fasting, stick to 1200 calories per day, low carbing. And my weight remaining the same week in and week out. I drink at least two litres of water per day. It's so dispiriting, I've got a high BMI and underactive thyroid.

ThursdayWeld · 03/06/2021 21:35

I should say, I had 5 stone to lose and have lost 3 stone, over a few years, so have reached a bit of a plateau and want to move things on.

OP posts:
TheLeadbetterLife · 03/06/2021 21:36

I’m quite tall and I could eat more calories supposedly and still lose weight, but I figure if I don’t feel hungry it doesn’t matter. I find reducing carbs is working better than calorie counting anyway. I just have a rough idea because I usually have the same lunch every day.

TDogsInHats · 03/06/2021 21:37

I wonder if I should up my calories? Perhaps my body is holding onto the fat because I don't eat enough?
Could you post a link please OP of the NHS page you've looked at please?

You're not really supposed to count calories when you're low carbing.

I've lost 3 stone low carbing, never counted calories.

I eat 12-8 (although often 7). I do cheat and have fruit in the morning sometimes.

ThursdayWeld · 03/06/2021 21:39

This is the NHS calculator I used. It calculates your BMI then below that suggests a calorie count for weightloss.

ThursdayWeld · 03/06/2021 21:40

IF-ers - what do you drink before breaking your fast? Is black coffee/tea OK?

OP posts:
ThursdayWeld · 03/06/2021 21:42

I have just done the NHS one again and it's telling me to lose 8lbs Grin and giving me 1544 - 1985 calories a day to do that.

OP posts:
ThursdayWeld · 03/06/2021 21:43

Macros gave me 1820 calories per day to lose weight.

Blimey!

Think I'll try a bit less than that.

OP posts:
TDogsInHats · 03/06/2021 21:58

Thanks for the link op, I'm not eating enough according to the NHS page. I'll investigate further!

Ellenthegenerous · 03/06/2021 21:59

I eat between 10am and 6pm and it works well for me. I don’t feel deprived. If I eat late at night I get uncomfortable and then can’t sleep.
