Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Full disclosure, I caved and had rye bread and hummus yesterday and today evening!
Today I had a fast day so did the beetroot curry from the green roasting tin. Was ok, not up to my usual standard of curry, but good considering used low fat coconut milk instead of cream.
Am going to stick to my three evening ricecakes this evening. Just edged into 65kg territory so hoping I can cement that by the end of January.

Have zero fresh stuff in so may make a soup for dinner tomorrow using random frozen vegetables from the fridge. Have some fresh basil so might make it passable haha.

Goldilocks99 · 26/01/2022 21:54

Wedges are in the oven but I forgot to grease the tin. D'oh! Fingers crossed I get away with it. I used some aquafaba instead of egg.
I'm a bit aware we've not got much thread left. Shall we start another one? I'm really glad @LargeInCharge started this one as I've lost a lot since my first post. It's nice to know others are doing the same. :)

LuckyKitty13 · 27/01/2022 07:34

Ooo hope you get them out the tin!!
Forgot to record yesterdays meals:
Porridge
Leftover bean chilli and rice
“Lunchbox pasta” out of the green roasting tin- pasta, broccoli, sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts etc. don’t think I’d make it again as the dressing was too sharp.
Apple to follow

Yourownpersonaljesus · 27/01/2022 18:40

Another rubbish day for me!
B - branflakes with semi-skimmed milk
S - a banana and some prunes
L - 3 beetroot and balsamic rice cakes with sweet chilli Philadelphia, tyrells nut medley, natural yoghurt with granola
S - a lot of biscuits and chocolates!
D - Crunchy quorn fillet burger with 2 hash brown waffles and reduced sugar baked beans
Need to stop eating now!!!
Sounds like a good plan to start a new thread @Goldilocks99.

Goldilocks99 · 27/01/2022 20:32

Lunch yesterday sounds nice Your own.(so do the hash browns but in a very different way haha!)
My scales tipped over to 65 today hooray! Now just need to lose a tiny bit more, maybe 2kg and maintain.
Easier said than done hehe!
Fast day today so made bean, basil, pepper, paprika, tomato, carrot soup in my blender and some rye toast. It must have been delicious because ds who never eats anything without a battle had three portions with his pasta.
My main danger will be the weekend. I have some pasties that have been calling my name and DH is a bad influence.

LuckyKitty13 · 27/01/2022 21:58

That sounds like a lovely soup ! I will make some!

Okay day for me:
Toast with peanut butter and an apple.
Last bit of leftover bean chilli - no rice.
Mushroom omelette with steamed kale.

At my mums this weekend - she’s a big feeder so need to make sure I keep saying no thank you!

Help me everyone! I’ve eaten ice cream and chips already today!! Need to stop. What can I ask for for dinner/lunch that isn’t offensive ?!

Goldilocks99 · 28/01/2022 16:34

Mushroom, bulgar wheat stuffed peppers?
Soup? Salad?

LuckyKitty13 · 28/01/2022 16:39

Oh stuffed peppers is a great idea actually. Thanks! Great ideas

Goldilocks99 · 28/01/2022 16:55

I've been doing mushroom, basil, bulgar wheat and a vegan cheese so a dairy option would be nice I think.

LuckyKitty13 · 28/01/2022 20:48

My meals today in all their glory…
Toast with almond butter, half a banana.
Ice cream sundae.
Fish and chips.
Plate of steamed broccoli and cabbage for dinner as I felt I had a nutrient deficit 🤣

LuckyKitty13 · 29/01/2022 17:12

Meals today not terrible but not perfect.
Slice of toast with almond butter and an apple.
Small carvery at the pub - just veggies, a little cauliflower cheese and 2 roast potatoes.
Half a peach and a few blackberries.

Might have something else in a bit - like slice of toast or some fruit.

One more day here then back home to get back on it for real! Will not weigh this week for sure !!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 29/01/2022 18:11

After a really unhealthy week and another couple of pounds on I thought I'd try to be reasonably healthy today.
B - porridge with a sliced banana, dates and linseeds.

L - a whole tub of fresh butternut squash soup (but no bread).
S - a cookies and cream fibre one protein bar, a piece of cheese (needed more protein).
D - Thai green vegetable curry with sticky rice, some prunes.
I'm by no means finished eating for the day though! DD bought me a Reeces egg yesterday so I'm pretty sure that will be consumed.

Goldilocks99 · 29/01/2022 20:45

Pfft I'm annoyed at myself.
Panini and chips for lunch yesterday
Double chips as had chips and pasty for tea.
Today waffles(I just found out that you can toast them!) veggie bacon sandwich.

Pesto, tomato and cheeze Panini.
(To my shame) spaceraiders potato oven shapes(not as good as the crisps) mushroom burgers and a beer.

Back up to 66kg. D'oh!
:(
Lots of fresh stuff in though so hopefully will do better in the week. Weekends are hard as other half is a bad influence.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 29/01/2022 22:01

We all have days like that @Goldilocks99- - I have loads! Well I had the Reece's Peanut Butter Creme Egg and it was lovely. Also had some Graze protein power. I bought lots of healthy stuff today so will hopefully stay on track tomorrow. Took some of my Christmas chocolate to the food bank today but couldn't part with all of it!

Yourownpersonaljesus · 30/01/2022 19:57

Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend. Here's what I ate today:
B - porridge with a spoon of biscoff spread (bananas were still green)
L - a wholemeal wrap filled with avocado, mushrooms and tomatoes. I spread the wrap with some chilli jam and seasoned the avocado and mushrooms with lots of salt and pepper. It was delicious. Also had an activia peach yoghurt and some prunes.
S - 4 chocolates.
D - pasta with tomato and veg sauce with a small amount of grated cheese and a slice of garlic bread, another yoghurt.
S - an options hot chocolate.
I really fancy something else but am trying to resist!

LuckyKitty13 · 30/01/2022 20:34

My meals today:
Slice of toast with almond butter.
Beetroot and cheese sandwich with baby corn and grapes on the side.
Roasted cauliflower and butter bean stew.

And I’m back at home from tomorrow so normal service will resume!

LuckyKitty13 · 31/01/2022 20:45

Today:
No breakfast.
Veggie meatballs with rice and some veggies ( a new recipe - definitely not enough vegetables) - I had a small portion then second helpings.
Greek yogurt with a little muesli, banana and apple.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 31/01/2022 21:51

Which veggie meatballs did you have @LuckyKitty13? I like the Richmond ones and the Quorn ones but Waitrose doesn't seem to have them lately. They do have the Linda McCartney ones though, which I do like.
I had an avocado, falafel, salsa and spinach wrap for lunch today. Then for dinner I had chickpea, sweet potato and butternut squash tikka masala with sweet potato 'rice'. Both were lovely and healthy but spoilt it as usual by eating loads of chocolates.

Goldilocks99 · 01/02/2022 17:47

Chilli jam sounds lush. I must try some time.
I've had a bad few days due to covid. Apparently covid likes carbs.
Soup today: lentil, carrot, butternut squash, peanut butter powder, lemongrass, chilli tumeric, coconut milk.
Tea tonight: baked gnocchi, peppers, tomatoes, courgettes and pesto and violife Greek cheese.

LuckyKitty13 · 01/02/2022 19:47

Oh they were some terrible home made chickpea and feta creation! The rice was nice though.
Meals today:
Peanut butter toast and an apple.
Lunch was cheese, red pepper, a banana, an nakd bar, and 2 chocolate biscuits! (Totally worth it though!!).
Dinner was a Thai veggie curry with noodles, followed by another apple. I also ate the crusts from my daughter toast (a habit I’ve desperately been trying to get out of! Not done it for weeks now).

Yourownpersonaljesus · 01/02/2022 20:44

Your soup sounds nice @Goldilocks99. And I'm very impressed that you only ate two biscuits @LuckyKitty13 - I wish I could stop at two. Here's what I've eaten today:
B - Natural yoghurt, raspberries and granola, half a bagel.
S - a banana
L - the same wrap as yesterday, Graze protein power, a kiwi fruit and a jam doughnut (someone's birthday at work).
S - a Wispa gold (no excuses!)
D - a cheese, onion and tomato omelette

Yourownpersonaljesus · 01/02/2022 21:56

Meant to say sorry to hear you have covid @Goldilocks99. Hope you feel better soon.

Goldilocks99 · 02/02/2022 13:42

Thanks. The worst part is it has made my self control has gone out the window. Lots of carbohydrates and have given into having lucosade.
