Hey everyone. I'm looking to try this as I'm not getting anywhere else with anything else. My daily routine consist of , get up skip breakfast, skip dinner OR eat crap to fill me. Then it gets to 7/8pm and I eat a takeaway or crap again and don't eat tea. I can never be bothered once the kids are in bed I'm tired and don't want to start cooking again. I only eat crap through the day no meals or anything. Horrible habit I know! I used to go to the gym I was doing really well too! But lockdown happened and I gained ALOT of weight! I'm looking to loose like 6st which only used to be 4st at the beginning of the gym time 😭 I can't motivate myself to meal prep and cook healthy everyday 3 meals a day because I hate every food I'm so so fussy my partner hates it! I only like beef and CHicken and I have to be in the mood for chicken it's got to be a certain shape for me to eat it. I don't like mince I don't like sweet potatoes I literally don't like anything and this is why I struggle to eat healthy because there's a tiny range that I actually like 😭. Has anyone internet fasted before? How did you do it? I don't really understand it to be honest and want advice Thankyou!

I do intermittent fasting. I use the simple app which tracks the type of meals without counting calories etc which is an absolute no go for me as I just give up. A good book for simplicity is delay don't deny by gin Stephens. She also has a fb group which really helped me.

I try to fast for 16-18 hours but sometimes do less. I no longer eat after 7 unless I'm having alcohol and it's usually closer to 6. I usually don't eat in the morning until
Somewhere between 10 and 12. I have 2 meals and snacks.

It's really hard to start with but becomes easy after a few weeks. I found it most important to be flexible and some days if I'm stressed or bored or even hungry I break my fast early. It helps to eat a good meal before you start your fast. Pizza night is killer for me and I usually end up eating earlier the next day.

I lost a stone in 9 weeks at the start.

Mybabysmylife · 08/03/2021 18:01

@oohmyback oh wow ok, so do you fast everyday? I'm confused when I'm supposed to eat and when I'm not / how much I'm supposed to eat and what I'm supposed to eat it's so confusing to me lol xx

I have always struggled with my weight and I have PCOS which can make things harder when it flares up. I have just started using an app which I never thought would be much use. However I've been using it for 3 days and its really making a difference. I'm more motivated. It explains when my body is burning fat, counts my calories without me having to read the labels. I have been unbelievably unmotivated recently even though I know I've gained weight (You're not alone OP) but this has made a difference. Its intermittent fasting, It seems ok

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/03/2021 19:26

I do 16:8 as a rule but it usually becomes 18:6, I have my first meal between 1100-1300 then another around 1800 in the week earlier at weekends. If I do snack it’s a piece of fruit for sweetness, once you have started intermittent fasting it quickly it becomes really easy & the benefits are,I have so much energy, sleep really well, I am a drinker but not after 1800 so that automatically limits the amount & I eat what I want, BUT I have never been a lover of takeaway food so I’ve never had to tackle that. Good luck op, you will feel better before you see weight loss but that alone is worth it.

DwangelaForever · 08/03/2021 19:30

Before you start do you have any history with gallstones? Fasting is a big no no with gallstones.

It might be a daft question but do you find eating fruit fills you? As i've said, im 3 days in and still getting the hang of it, I probably should be making healthier choices but it's good to have a chance to ask somebody who is well on the path with intermittent fasting. (I'm also doing 16:8)
feelingdizzy · 08/03/2021 19:36

I do 16:8 has worked for me in terms of weight loss but even more so getting on top of my eating. It's helped me enjoy food but not be so bloody obsessed with it !

fabulousspider · 08/03/2021 19:38

For intermittent fasting, when I am starting out I try to push it a couple of extra hours each day before eating. For example, on the first day, if I've been eating normally beforehand, I will try not to eat until say midday. The second I push it out another hour or two. Then another hour or two the next day etc. So the gap is longer each day until you're more used to it.

Be careful, don't eat carbs on an empty stomach. Start off with some protein, veggies or full fat yoghurt or something. if you start off with carbs it will turn straight into sugar in the blood stream. Line your stomach first with healthier foods and if you must have carbs have them an hour or so after your first non carby meal.

I drink black coffee to get me through some hunger stretches, and sometimes if I want to push my fast out a little longer but really fancy something I will allow myself a tea with almond milk (I'm vegan) but i guess you could use skimmed milk or something. It helps take the edge off it a bit.

I also find sparkling water (nice brand) helps me in the evening so I have something nice to drink that's healthy instead of snacking!

Anyway all the best OP! :) The key as well is to try not to go too mad on the non fast days or during your eating windows. If you go too mad you may ruin your progress although that said we can't deny ourselves every single thing all the time!!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/03/2021 19:41

I eat fruit as a snack, I do have a sweet tooth, my two meals are healthy but I don’t skimp on portion size.

Mybabysmylife · 08/03/2021 19:43

These are great advice! But what does 16:8 mean? Sorry I'm new to this!!

16 hours of fating and then you have a window of 8 hours to eat

Apileofballyhoo · 08/03/2021 19:48

16 hours when you don't eat, 8 hours when you do.

4LeafClover21 · 08/03/2021 19:48

*EATING
not fating lol

TheVolturi · 08/03/2021 19:53

I am slimmer doing 16/8
Basically I get up at 7 but don't have breakfast until 9. I have black coffee though. Then by lunchtime I am not as hungry as I would be if I'd had an early breakfast. So I don't eat as much.
I try not to eat anything at all after 5.30pm latest. I have peppermint tea in the evening. I don't calorie count, but I'm lighter when doing 16/8 for sure.

Mybabysmylife · 08/03/2021 20:03

@TheVolturi I'm definitely liking your idea! I'm going to try this! Do you snack on fruit or anything? I drink ALOT of tea but with semi skimmed milk..

OP posts:
TheVolturi · 08/03/2021 20:17

I do snack, not necessarily on fruit every time though! Tea is fine! I do try to be sensible when I eat, but I basically eat what I want. I am definitely less hungry on 16/8. If you can occupy yourself in the evening to not be tempted to eat then it will almost definitely work for you. I'm busy from 6-9 doing a combination of dinner for dh, sorting kids out and packing them all off to bed. So I only sit down from 9-10 and then usually go to bed. If I try to drink more water as well as that helps. Another little thing that I find helps you stay full is kefir, really good for your stomach too. A glass of it is quite filling.

Mybabysmylife · 08/03/2021 20:33

@TheVolturi I'm busy also , 2 children 2&4 keep me busy plus nursery runs through the day then cleaning the house and go back for then then yea/bath/bed xx

TheVolturi · 09/03/2021 18:01

There is an app called zero that's really good.

BIWI · 09/03/2021 18:05

Carbs will turn to sugar anyway.

@Mybabysmylife you might find this thread helpful it's been started by StuntNun who is a low carber, but the information is more general and should help you.

Mybabysmylife · 09/03/2021 18:08

@BIWI oh dear I've just ate a jacket potato with tuna?!🙈🙈

OP posts:
fabulousspider · 09/03/2021 18:11

@biwi yes they will, but the effect is much worse on an empty stomach in terms of putting on weight. This is due to how insulin works. Carbs on an empty stomach are absorbed much more quickly into the blood stream, rapidly raising blood sugar levels (which in turn encourages fat storage) and therefore increasing potential weight gain. if you eat something beforehand that is for example protein, or yoghurt, or high fibre type foods this lines the stomach which in turn limits the absorption rate, and thus lessens the potential high blood sugar and fat storage.

Mybabysmylife · 09/03/2021 18:48

@fabulousspider I ate a Miller rice before hand will this be ok??
