Any Team RH members on here?

Hi, I just signed up to team rh last night, biggest I've ever been and as a woman in her mid 40s I'm mindful of how unhealthy all this fat around my middle is!
Been thinking about team rh for a while, I like his no bullshit approach but appreciate it isn't for everyone. I can't do any eating plans where certain foods are banned so this seems great and the calories are generous too. Anyway if you're a member please let me know how you're getting on, I'm about to go out for my first walk!

I’m a member - it’s like anything you get out of it what you put in. I find it really good plenty of affiliates to assist in getting your steps in. For me I ignore the swearing and find it useful in mentally keeping my head in the game. I’ve lost nearly 10lbs (low thyroid and not loads to lose) and I’ve quite often gone over my calories. Think if you are really over-weight it probably is better as it gives a pretty high calorie level to help you stick to it and doesn’t need special foods etc it is a bit of a PITA weighing food but it does become easier. Everyone is so individual so whatever helps people is great weight watchers slimming world etc but long term it is sadly a lifetime of making better choices. Have a look at the free content on Facebook but good luck x

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 13/03/2021 18:01

I’ve looked at it a couple of times, but after a watching a video of the guy talking I can’t sign up. He irritates the life of me and enjoys the sound of his own voice too much.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 13/03/2021 19:12

Admittedly his approach isn't for everyone but I'd rather hear the truth than the twaddle from weight watchers/slimming world etc. He's right about making excuses, certainly for me anyway, however painful it might be to hear.

I prefer James Smith even though he can be abrasive too.

Wobblesandchickuns · 13/03/2021 20:20

For me it's one thing to be blunt and another to be an absolute bell end. Idk how he gets away with it in this day and age - his clientele are mostly women and he says some really insensitive things about people who've got busy lives because they're working and trying to be parents too.

crustybreaddarling · 14/03/2021 07:42

I think we can agree he is the shock-jock end of the diet world. As @Fiftysixthnamechange said, personally I find that easier to deal with than the syns/mashed banana furore SW experience.

He is rude, he is blunt, but he does actually speak the truth for, what, 95%+ of us?

I at the moment I have a glimmer of hope - if I can churn out 10k steps a day, I can eat 2,200 calories. And lose weight. It just seems to have more chance of success than the MFP suggestion of 1,492 a day.

thisisyourwakeupcall · 14/03/2021 08:09

I was thinking of joining( I'm now not going too)
I saw the other day the target is 15,000 steps!! Does anyone reach this target ( and have a normal life instead of just walking for hours a day?)
If my steps are much lower surely I just adjust my calories to reflect my level of activity and ensure I'm in calorie deficit.....
Unless I'm wrong that's all there is to
it...

crustybreaddarling · 14/03/2021 10:49

That's brilliant @thisisyourwakeupcall, you've realised Team RH isn't for you and you've found something that is.

I don't think the 15,000 steps is a dictat, I was asked as part of the sign-up process and chose 10,000.

Behind all the bluff and bravado it seems the TRH principles work around people eating more protein and fibre, while watching their fat and sugar intake in combination with upping their activity.

What's important is that we all find something that works for us, that we can stick with.

SendMeHome · 14/03/2021 11:01

I did it last year... I did lose weight but so very slowly, and the plan basically works by giving you more calories but increasing your steps as you go. When I joined, you could do things like cycling instead of walking, but they don’t support that during check ins anymore.

I was pretty happy at the start - I could eat about 1,800 calories if I did 10k steps, but a few months later, I had to drop to 1,650 calories and increase to 15k steps, and then 20k steps... and I just couldn’t fit it in. Even if I spent all my work calls walking on the spot, and went for two daily walks. I was following the workouts, too, but they make it quite hard to lose weight... it does slow down progress if you grow muscle at the same time.

I went back to MFP and lost faster. I’ve got 5kg to go, really, and was invited back to “check out the changes” in Team RH last week, but it seems to have got worse not better...

Maybe I should have kept going, but I just don’t think an ever-increasing amount of steps is for me.

Whilst I don't think the ww/sw tall ever work, I don't think the screenshot below is the "truth" either. For most people they probably have issues around food not because they're lazy. Combined with self esteem issues for having weight issues long term, being shouted at like this is just going to make people feel worse. Can't think of a worse way of supporting people who need to manage their weight.
Wobblesandchickuns · 14/03/2021 14:13

@safetyzone agreed. It's not the truth for people with mental health issues or disordered eating, for example. I like a no-bullshit approach more than I like the happy clappy slimming world environment but he's horribly dismissive and fails to see the real and often hard to control reasons why people end up overweight in the first place. It isn't always laziness.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 14/03/2021 15:06

I opted for 15,000 steps per day because that's normal for me so there isn't much additional walking, obviously if you average 2000 per day you're going to struggle to get to 15,000 so opt for 5 or 10 thousand instead. I get to 15000 just by walking the dog, having an active job and walking home from work. I just can't abide feeling hungry or cutting out any food groups so I'll take the swearing and rudeness in exchange for that!

Outbutnotoutout · 14/03/2021 15:26

How many steps does he want you to.do every day?

MisgenderedSwan · 14/03/2021 18:05

I signed up to 15000 too. A normal day for me is 10000 easily so I felt like I should challenge myself. I get about 10,000 on school runs and then work and then hop on the treadmill for 30-40 mins while watching tv in the evening. I'm really enjoying it. I find I thinking about what to feed my body to increase fitness and health rather than worrying about depriving myself. I don't always manage to fit the workouts in but I'm happy to be getting more toned, I've lost 7lbs in just over 2 weeks with about 2 stone to go :)

Outbutnotoutout · 14/03/2021 18:10

I have a sit down job where I'm not allowed to move for 9hrs or 10hrs (except toilet) but I could try and get them done in the evening after work or morning before?

I will try 5000 first
I can easily do 10000 on rest days

headintheproverbial · 14/03/2021 21:12

I'm considering signing up. There's so little info on what's involved tho! Am I right in thinking you:

  • commit to steps (other workouts too??)
  • receive a calorie goal
  • receive a macro breakdown

What else is involved, or what do you get access to?

MisgenderedSwan · 15/03/2021 06:39

You get an app which links to MyFitnessPal and tracks your water, macros, calories, steps and workouts. There are loads of helpful videos on it and there's a 'contact a coach' feature where you can ask any questions and get a personal response. The private members group on Facebook is another good way to get support. It works well for me, paying out means I've committed!

Gensola · 15/03/2021 06:50

I was on it for 6 months and stuck religiously to it, didn’t lose weight at all. I did maintain, they had me on 1700 cals. Then did fast800 for 3.5 weeks and lost 7-8lbs, have kept that off for almost a year now just eating 1600-1800 cals and doing the 15,000 steps plus 3 workouts. I think the steps thing has stuck with me and I learned what cals I can maintain on so it was worth it for me. I like Rachael but she seems to have disappeared a bit recently.
I think my cals were too high for someone of my small size (5 ft 2) - to lose I need to be on 1200 + exercise. I did ask about it repeatedly but was told to trust the process etc.

MisgenderedSwan · 15/03/2021 07:10

I'm on 1900 at 5ft tall and have lost 2lbs a week. I like how the daily weighing means you see the averages going down, it means if I have a day where it ticks up I can stay on plan and stay confident knowing that it will come down again.

Lanaa · 15/03/2021 07:13

One of my colleagues signed up for it. Massive mistake. You get nothing for your money. The app is a glorified version of My Fitness Pal. MFP is free and easy to use.

The Facebook group is terrible. People get called out and bullied for asking questions. If you are paying for a service then surely your questions should be answered. Instead you get a foul mouthed cretin calling you a "lazy cunt" while walking on the spot in his kitchen.

I'm no psychologist but I have a theory that people like him because their self esteem is shot. Maybe because of the weight or the weight being a symptom of other issues. Subconsciously they don't mind or don't realise that they are being abused by him because they believe that they are indeed useless/lazy/stupid. It's really sad.

This was my issue. He must be making an absolute fortune getting people into 12 month contracts for what is essentially my fitness pal. Any time I asked them something they sent me to the FAQs 🙄 you get nothing for your money. The Facebook group is cult-like. It's basically "do as you're told and if it's not working for you then you're doing it wrong"
Chesneyhawkes1 · 15/03/2021 07:22

I almost did by joined Clan Munro instead. It's based around the same principle but no shouting or swearing at people. But still straightforward honest advice.

Anyway I lost the 7lbs I needed to in a few months and so left as you don't have to sign a contract with them

I quite like his way of talking but coming from a team sport background a lot of my friends talk like that 😂 I find the videos interesting and like that I've committed to it so will keep going. It's cheaper than slimming world and I never bought into the idea that because I'd mashed a banana it was now 'synned' or that SW branded burgers are 'free' but other lower cal options were synned. It works for me, it's not going to work for everyone. I haven't seen anyone called out for asking questions unless it was a question answered in the videos that you have to click to say you've watched before starting. I've asked several questions and had some really helpful, personalised advice.
crustybreaddarling · 15/03/2021 07:34

I hope you don't mind @Fiftysixthnamechange, I'm going to note my progress here.

So, I joined last week (10/3) and committed to 10k steps/day. I've been allocated 2,200 calories a day and a breakdown of the macros I should meet.

So far I've met the steps and the calories goal. I'm watching the macros and can see a pattern emerging, not the pattern they've suggested yet but I am happy enough to try and get to that over the next couple of weeks.

I'm using nutracheck rather than mfp, from personal preference.

Good luck to everyone else following the plan!
