Very bad news this morning - my operation has been cancelled due to bed pressures in the NHS. I totally get that this op is not top priority, but anyone who has done the LRD needlessly will feel my disappointment, I'm sure.

SilverOtter · 29/10/2021 09:45

Oh no @alldressedupinblue that's awful, especially when you've got so far through the LRD!Sad Have they given you any indication of when it might get rescheduled?

alldressedupinblue · 29/10/2021 10:07

@SilverOtter they have said 29 Nov but no guarantee it won't be cancelled again Confused

GoingToInfinity · 29/10/2021 10:17

@alldressedupinblue I can't imagine how tough that is. I've not got as far as the LRD yet but I know it's going to be super tough.

Keepthefocus · 29/10/2021 10:18

@alldressedupinblue oh no that is awful. You must be so disappointed. Hopefully it will go ahead on 29th but I really feel for you.

Keepthefocus · 29/10/2021 10:20

@RevisionSurgeryQ @Jubilate thanks for your help. I’ve moved more to wet purée and it’s helping a little. I’ve also sent my nutrition support an email to see if they can help.

SilverOtter · 29/10/2021 10:40

@alldressedupinblue I will cross everything for you that it goes ahead on the 29th. I can imagine how disappointed you feel - id be devastated too.
I guess the only silver lining is that you can enjoy a proper meal again, at least until you restart the lrd!

Jubilate · 29/10/2021 12:36

@NCForthisxox I didn't lose on week 4. And this week 2-3 pounds. I've actually decided to drop to monthly weigh ins to try and buffer out the psychology of stalls. It's really confusing to be eating so little and not drastic scale movement, but I keep telling myself slower is better from a skin angle if nothing else. I follow someone on Instagram who has lost 10 stones in just over 6 months.

This is true I'm thinking my skin will be grateful if it comes off slower ! My OH tries to reassure me and says you will lose weight you eat so little compared to before. my illogical brain keeps saying it's not going to work lol.

I though it was about time I checked in on this thread, I’ve followed it for a while…massively overweight, my eating is all tied to emotions. My GP is very supportive and referred me for bariatric surgery via the NHS at the turn of this year but I’ve not heard anything yet and don’t expect to for a long time.
I’d been toying with going privately but hadn’t thought of abroad as an option till I had a chat with someone on MN a while ago.
The long and short of it is I’m off to Turkey on Monday, with surgery scheduled for Tuesday!
I’ve really struggled with the LRD, I just hope a I’ve done enough.
It all feels a bit surreal that it’s actually going to happen, but I’m well ready for this big life change. My weight’s impacting on and getting in the way of life way too much now, so this is it…wish me luck!

Good luck I just had mine in Turkey overall I was very impressed with the care particularly the nurses who were very attentive a bit too attentive lol !
Jubilate · 29/10/2021 14:01

Good luck @JudgeRindersMinder !

SilverOtter · 29/10/2021 15:13

Good luck @JudgeRindersMinder hope it all goes smoothly!

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/10/2021 17:27

Thanks for the support! @NCForthisxox I’m intrigued about the attentiveness! I’m planning on taking fully loaded kindle, iPad abs colouring books and pens

vitriolaa · 30/10/2021 17:34

good luck, @JudgeRindersMinder!

sorry to hear your op was postponed, @alldressedupinblue. I'm starting a trial run LRD tomorrow, can't imagine how frustrating it would be to have got through it and then have to wait.

fingers crossed for you that it goes ahead in Nov.

Keepthefocus · 01/11/2021 10:43

Good luck @JudgeRindersMinder. Let us know how u get on.

For those post surgery are you hitting your daily protein targets?? How many times a day do u eat to hit it?? My hospital advises 3 meals a day but with the tiny amount I can eat I am no where near target. Averaging around 30g ( one meal is a protein shake so that’s the bulk of the protein!!)

Jubilate · 01/11/2021 13:35

Hi @Keepthefocus. Some days I hit it, some days I'm nowhere near. Once your on normal textures you can pick things to get your protein up- babybels, putting peanut butter in porridge etc. I found in the early stages making milky coffee (as in instant coffee made up with milk) really helped. A mug of milk is about 9 or 10 grams of protein. I'd usually have one in the morning and one before bed.

RevisionSurgeryQ · 01/11/2021 16:12

@Keepthefocus I'm finding it easier with protein intake now that I'm on solid food.

All of my meals are protein based - breakfast is protein yoghurt with protein granola, lunch is fish or meat with salad or protein Ryvita with peanut butter and banana (half), and dinner is usual/regular meals (just a tiny portion!) - chicken with veg, or chilli con carne, cottage pie - I just don't have potatoes or rice, and prioritise protein.

I also have to have two snacks per day which can be hard going. I tend to have 10 almonds as one snack and a milky drink or some protein yoghurt with a small amount of fruit.

Most days, I have zero desire to eat. It feels like a chore which feels really odd.

RevisionSurgeryQ · 01/11/2021 16:15

Oops, I missed off eggs.

Scrambled egg. Omelette. Cold boiled egg.

SilverOtter · 01/11/2021 19:53

Well this is it, I've done my final day of the LRD. I have to be on the ward for 7am, so I'll see you all on the other side. I'm absolutely terrified!Sad

Keepthefocus · 01/11/2021 20:00

Good luck @SilverOtter!!!!

Thank you @Jubilate and @RevisionSurgeryQ. I have started trying to have a milky drink to help up my protein! I still have little interest in food but I love the thought of the texture in ur meal suggestions!!! Thank you!

SilverOtter · 01/11/2021 20:48

Thank you @Keepthefocus Smile

Brindille · 01/11/2021 22:34

Best of luck @SilverOtter!

Looking for a bit of advice. Mum has now started the puree stage.

And I dunno what I read in her booklets and see here it feels like she Is eating too much.

She had 1 weetabix with milk with milk powder that she finished.

We had Shepherds pie and she didn't finish that but it was big.

Then she had scrambled egg mash and a bit of cabbage which she finished.

And then 100g of yoghurt which was watered down a bit which she ate most of.

She's eating with a tea spoon but on the paperwork it says some are only able to eat 1-2 table spoons and she should be having 4-6 i think it is.

Obviously against what she normally ate that's nothing but I'm just concerned she's already eating more than she maybe should be according to the literature but she said she was still a bit hungry.

And also the booklets say she should be eating slowly chewing etc but she says she can't with puree foods as there's nothing to chew

HotSteppa · 06/11/2021 19:36

How are you doing SilverOtter? Hope all went ahead as planned and your at home feeling alright 🤞

Frustrated Teddy I'm pre surgery so not much I can add I don't think though I would say it sounds like larger portions than I am expecting to be able to manage a couple of weeks out but everyone is different. From what I've read people can tolerate different amounts and types of food so more about listening to your body and hunger ques and stopping when your full. Easier said than done I know. Wish your mum good luck from me.

I'm day 3 LRD and doing 800 cals. It's going OK so far. Weekend has been tough. Went to a kids party this afternoon and trying to avoid the party food and now just come up and got in the bath to avoid grazing but I've stuck to it. Sleeve scheduled 18th Nov 😬
